Suggest a MMORPG for me

gheseghese Member Posts: 8

All right guys, go easy on me. I'm new to the forum, and there's a very good chance I'm breaking some kind of rule already now. But that's because I'm completely new.

Now let me explain what I need help with. I just recently finished watching this anime called 'Sword Art Online'. I loved it and got really intrigued by the idea. And now I feel like playing a MMORPG.

There are way too many MMORPGs to choose among. Which is why I need help with picking one. As trying out several would be extremely time consuming.

What I'm looking for in a MMORPG:

- Guild, or something similar where the social aspect is given enough importance. Like Boss raids, and perhaps wars between guilds?

- I may be rather open minded about the games styling. Anime style would be appreciated, but I'm good as long as the game looks good.

- Time invested should be worth it. Like there should be more to the game than just grinding. Like, there should be a point to it?

It's safe to say that I'm a newbie when it comes to MMORPG. I've tried out WoW, didn't go any further than lvl 20. Then I've tried out a couple f2p ones, like Silkroad and Perfect World. I rather liked Perfect World, s it was a very beautiful game. But as I was a complete newbie, I messed up my stats and completely ruined the whole thing for me. But all this was several years ago.

So something new, preferably anime or fantasy based, but I'm open. Player base should be big as well. I'm also willing to wait a couple months if the game isn't released yet.

Darkfall Unholy Wars is the most satisfying MMO on the market, once you get past the learning curve.

I would consider Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn for you here. Its a pretty solid themepark MMORPG. It has Guilds (called Free Companys ingame) linkshells for even deeper sozializing. It has raids of course, a Final Fantasy like Story line (You liked Anime, so that is probably something for you) and a bunch of stuff to do after the raids, it has a wide crafting system and a housing system.

Well it has negative points as well, but you know these already from your free 2 play experiences. Its still in its core a JRPG so it is made for some timesink and grinding. Housing or private rooms are realy expensive, but if you invest time in the game you can make some Gil (Ingame Cash) pretty fast.

You should give it a look, if im right it has even a 14 day free trail now till lvl 20.

Final Fantasy XIV would probably be right up your alley. Great graphics (but not spectacular), solid game play, good story, plenty of classes, endgame gear progression, meaningful crafting, and several things to do other than grind dungeons for loot. There's a 'pet' system in place to train your chocobo to fight beside you. Guilds get their own house, and individual player housing is on its way. Chocobo breeding and possibly racing are in the works, as well as an amusement park style area based on the Golden Saucer from FFVII.

I believe there's still a free trial going on, so checking it out won't cost anything.

AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!

We are born of the blood. Made men by the blood. Undone by the blood. Our eyes are yet to open. FEAR THE OLD BLOOD.

Thanks alot for the suggestions guys. Darkfall seemed a bit outdated. But really interesting none the less.

But I guess Final Fantasy XIV was more like what I was looking for. Thank you for suggesting it. I'll be checking out our right away.

Not actual games, but you might also like the anime Log Horizon and the webtoon The Gamer.
I want to help design and develop a PvE-focused, solo-friendly, sandpark MMO which combines crafting, monster hunting, and story.  So PM me if you are starting one.

Also off-topic, but relevant to you nonetheless, is the webseries The Guild, and since you liked SOA, go watch Fairy Tail. As for the actual suggestions, you might wanna check the LFGame forum too. :)

Thank you for the anime and web series suggestion guys. I had never heard of any of those before. I appreciate it. I also checked out LFgame forum :)

Also, I noticed that Final Fantasy XIV was available on both steam and PS3 store. Does this mean that I could play as the same character on both my PC and PS3?

Give Star Wars: The Old Republic a try. It's a pretty easy game to get into, and it's free. And since you like guilds; they're adding planetary conquests - which will be mostly a guild driven activity as it's needed to upgrade your capital ship.

I'll throw in my support for Fairy Tail as well! I've never watched The Guild, beyond the "Do you wanna date my avatar" music video, but it seems pretty cool too.

My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

Hey dude! We are on the same boat because I literally posted the same thing you did yesterday haha. I just got finished with SAO as well and I have been craving that perfect MMO. I am going to test out Final Fantasy 14 A Realm Reborn, myself. It has a monthly fee, but it seems promising. It has everything that Sword art online had: Marriage, housing, farming, fishing, crafting, and of course, plenty of combat and guilds and bosses. And the style is Eastern, so there are some Asian/manga/anime influences in the architecture and scenery. It may be right up our alley! Let me know if you find any other good ones too!

Realise the impotence of proof reading everything you publish

I would say that Archeage is the game that most closely relates to SAO. It offers a very deep crafting system, own faction PvP, and a similar skill system to what you see in the series.

Now that being said, its definitely not a newbie friendly MMO. FFXIV is probably a good place to start.

That's cool buddy. I already got in touch with Konvict-Gaming so that I culd join thir guild and have someon to hang out with in game. You should check them out too. The game looks promising, and I like how deep it goes. I'll most probably end up buying the game. What's also cool is, I could play the game on PS3 as well, if I just feel like chilling and exploring the world.

Tell me how it goes, and we could probably also hangout in-game, haha. I made my character on Odin, it's supposedly the best one among them, with most English speakers and more active in terms of events and stuff.

Bump me in game if you feel like it. As of now, I'll just be considering FFXIV.

Thank you for the suggestion. I'll look into it if FFXIV doesn't work out for me. :)

Yes, you can log in with the same account and play the same character(s) on both systems. But you need to purchase and register both clients, for the PC and PS3.

I'm also looking for mmo for my style. I don't care much pvp or holy trinity fights but like gathering/crafting and exploring as well as good graphics and some grinding. So my eyes are in Black Desert. SWTOR I played few times through, in FFXIV from beginning but left when the "better" version started. I have now another foot in GW2 when playing solo games and waiting BD. AA I skipped as too pvp.

In TESO there is lotsa war between guilds in higher levels, solo friendly in beginning, quite good graphics but it is expensive and if you want a good horse, it is expensive.

Try Wildstar if you are looking for hardcore MMO. Lots of group content (pvp and pve) you can play with guild fellows. I'm waiting for The Crew though and I think it's also the game focuses on guild experience.
