EQN will help SOE break even, nothing more.

SOE has had a run of poor quality games, investments, etc. over the past several years. The company itself has never been as top tier as people used to like to hope, and its certainly showing as time runs on.

People thought Planetside 2 would bring the company out of its rut but it failed due to badlyimplimented F2P options, and no optimization for PC's.

EQN has one benefit, the founders program, which will give SOE money now, and they WILL break even on this game. But as soon as the game releases they will be back to square one, basically a begger with some loose change in his pocket.

And for the love of God have you watched any of their presentations, and their terrible comedy practices? Seriously this company has two things majorly against it, Smedley, and the guys Smedley think is funny staying around.

Say what you want about Smed but hes quiet the ponce when it comes to picking up charsmatic people, I mean he was best friends with Brad Mcquaid afterall!

This will be interesting to see what direction SOE takes in future years..  I agree that SOE doesn't hold the reputation it once did..  Last I checked on game play hours.  SOE doesn't even have a game in the top 100.. I'm sure they are hoping to break into that top 100 with EQN, but we'll see..

SOE grossed 88 billion worldwide according to the presentation at the SOELive presentation recently.

    Yeah they are in trouble!

I NEVER heard any hype for Planetside 2, much less the 1st one..

Just another FPS game in a sea of them..

But SOE's had a track record of weird games nobody played or knew about..  Infantry online was a part of your original Everquest membership, but next to nobody knew about it..

As far as EQN, why the hell would I care about their marketing. at this stage..?  We still know very little about the game either way..

People who are following the game, playing landmark and follow the forums are VERY informed. Just because you are not doesn't mean it isn't hitting every target they set and doesn't mean there isn't a lot of people waiting with baited breath for each new snippet of information or update.

If you think this site is the best place to keep up to date with Landmark and EQN you are badly misinformed.

So true..  Almost everything at this point is top secret and a book of "what if, could of, should of and whatnots"..  I don't even think they have ONE STARTING CITY drawn up yet.. I haven't seen any screenshots of it..

Sony found their niche. They make games with TONS of content and are f2p. Ive been playing Sony games for 2 years recently and the game i found the best was still Everquest 1. They must have a million dollar formula of why i want to farm diamonds and get AA points in a game with not so good graphics. Only mmo i played 4 months consecutively at a time. i heard somewhere EQ1 has 100,000 subscribers and i can see it. theres 500 people on a tuesday night on my server and on all servers could be 10,000.

If anything, SOE has been improving over the years.

If SoE nails Landmark/Next, Next isn't where the cash cow probably will be, it will be Landmark imo.

They could lease out tools from Landmark/Next under the Landmark umbrella, and let people make their own mmos as a Landmark world, taking a cut of the profits from the games.  Allowing people to make mmorpgs and such with tools that seem like they will be very easy to use.  They could open up design of models also under this plan to make something feel different.

So basically they can franchise out the tools under the Landmark name, if they nail it....If not, I still think they will do well between the two.

I have Landmark and am looking forward to seeing Next, I am a more traditional mmorpg player, so not in love with all the plans, but I want to see it all when done and then make up my mind.  Even if I don't like it, it doesn't mean it won't do well, as I said, I am probably more minority when it comes to mmorpgs, I miss leveling paces that are closer to the original EQ, verse the current average pace.

As I see it SOE have 2 things that could kill EQN (or at least hurt it rather badly: engine problems (just look on EQ2, I had performance issues there with my computer that run AoC perfectly and I am not the only one) and being too greedy with the cashshop.

If the game runs fine and the cashshop is acceptable then I think they will do fine with the game no matter how odd mechanics they will implement. But few people would bother with a buggy game that lags and are very expensive to actually play for anyone not a noob.

With fine I don't mean income like Wow but enough to keep the company running and making new games without being forced to fire people.

I am in agreance. Their game code and engines just suck the big one! Always have and always will. None of the games they have on roster play smooth regardless the horsepower you throw at it.

"The King and the Pawn return to the same box at the end of the game"

    You need to upgrade then.

    Either that or user error!
