Players wanting to get a sneak peek at the cosmos to be featured in Destiny can take a look at the newly unveiled interactive site, Destiny Planet View. Planet View currently allows for in-depth information about Earth, the Moon and Venus, with more planets and information to be added at a later date.
Created using Google Technologies, Destiny Planet View gives fans an immersive first look at Destiny's in-game locations on Mars, Venus and the Moon. While the experience only reveals a small slice of Destiny's massive worlds, users will be able step through each area and discover useful lore, gameplay tips and even a few hidden real-world and in-game incentives along the way.

True. But now they basically reveiled the true size of the game at launch.
4 maps. That's it. Pretty much what People been saying and what Bunji desperately tried to avoid answering. /shrug
Just goes to show they spend most of their time making the game look pretty, creating fancy trailers and PR Hyping, instead of creating a bigger game to explore in.
I am glad I didn't pre-order yet. Gonna wait and sit this one out and see how it goes next tuesday and see how big the game trully is.
But going by these map views. Nothing impressive really. /sigh
Just another indication to me they are going to milk the player base with DLC and expansions for the game as is the norm these days.

I think there's plenty of evidence at this point that the game is nowhere near as big as people thought it was going to be. The fact that they used this Google Viewer the way they did feels really lame. Mess with it a little, then compare it to what the Google Viewer really does. I don't know, to me it just seems unnecessary and further exaggerates what the game is supposedly offering.
Don't get me wrong, I think it will be a fun game. It certainly looks like another solid Bungie title and they have brought me the most enjoyment in the past when it comes to FPS games. However, there's no doubt that the marketing is blowing what the game actually is out of proportion.
Even though I never was planning on buying the game at release, your statement just killed the little hype there ever was for me. I hope this isn't true, but it has indeed been one of my biggest concerns and worries regarding this game.
Will it just be another console title as we already know them, or will it be the true "next gen" that we all want? For that to happen, Destiny needs a large open world to explore with very little restrictions. That's like key, it's so important, otherwise it'll just fall flat.

Indeed, we're in the same boat you and I.
I for one wasn't impressed by the planetviewer at all, it felt extremely streamlined and linear. If the game is even a fraction as streamlined and linear; it'll be a very bad thing. It didn't hype me for the game at all, it actually had more of a opposite effect unfortunately.

Where does all this hatred come from? Just wait till release.
Two things:
1. This is just a little trailer, it does not show how many worlds there will be and how big they will be.
2. The size of a world does not really matter. Want a few examples?
Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need.
I'm not worried at all about the limited number of maps for 2 main reasons:
1. We only had 1 map for the 9 day Beta test and I was never bored. They have already stated the first expansion is coming december/january timeframe.
2. Never once did I stop having fun. Regardless of only having 1 exploration map and 2 (sometimes 3) PVP maps, I had fun for every second I was playing the game.
That is what many games are missing now, that fun factor. Destiny found a way to make going through the same areas fun for me. Just my opinion, so it isn't any more valid than anyone else's.

Agreed, this is what makes the map number nearly irrelevant. A certain number of maps does not make a game good or bad. It is rather the game is fun or not. Quake 2 was one of my favorite online games of all time, and 90% of the time, the only map used was The Edge. WoW has tons of awesome zones, but I never even saw Silithus until Cata was out. Map count does not make or break a game, it is merely a discussion point.

"While the experience only reveals a small slice of Destiny's massive worlds, users will be able step through each area and discover useful lore, gameplay tips and even a few hidden real-world and in-game incentives along the way."
Exactly.
Good post. It really irks me when posters use the word "hate" and it's varying forms wrongly. The real word is criticism. [mod edit]
4 maps means short game play, is that what you want to spend your money on? The more I read about it, the lamer this game appears to be. At least I don't have to worry about impulse buying, I don't and never will own a console. Even the new ones are already out dated. [mod edit]
OMG was so thirsty !!!
* snatches away your cup and drains it *
More??
Imo it is pretty big, Old russia, I was exploring, not following quest lines, I went in caes with underground tunnels with lvl 20 mobs, entered areas with lvl 20 mobs, so couldnt get further.
On the beta when 1 planet opened, thought the moon? DUnno anymore lol, man that was also big! But really big, I was lost! Went in a castle, so ogres, and a really big underground complex something, it was biggie!!!
Bungie said: You May Never "Finish" Destiny
Dont care if its true or not, I def know I would have fun for some time!
Yes we do know how many worlds there will be at launch.
Earth, Moon, Venus and Mars. One map (playable area) on each. 1+1+1+1 = 4 !
Your second point is just hyberbole and laughable. If that is all you can offer as counter argument. Really??
But I'll bite. Vanguard was a mess right from launch until closure. Had nothing to do with world size.
FFXIV:ARR might be zone based, but each zone is pretty large and there are lots of it. The game world in total is quite huge. It also has 3 Capital cities as well and dozens of dungeons.
World of Warcraft is still the most succesful running MMO today here in the west. And dismissing the game world and it's zones and saying everyone is just running instances is just idiotic!
WoW is 10 years old by now, and all the playable zones have been used and enjoyed extensivily over the years. I enjoyed the heck out of Vanilla WoW period for over 2 years straight at that time! The replayability with ALT's was impressive for that time.
All we have seen from Bungy so far is just their insane Hype machine (which is impressive in it's own I admit, but the 500 milion dollars they got from Activision might have something to do with that) and a lot of secrecy and avoiding tactics regarding game world size and content.
Also already announcing two lined up and detailed paid DLC's, while the game isn't even released yet, is rubbing me against the skin. But not suprised that they gonna milk the players dry on paid DLC's and expansions in coming time.
Just 6 days left. Then we will know.
They are showing 4 PLANETS [mod edit] each planet will have more then one map. they even stated how many missions will be in the story at launch and honestly its more then the halo games had in them. If you dont want to play it then dont [mod edit] I personally loved beta, its a nice break from all the CoD jerks who think CoD is life. And the fact there are no borderland games coming out (other then prequal) i dont see where anyhtign is wrong.

Where did they say there will be more than one explorable map on each planet? Please show us?
[mod edit]
I thought it was made pretty clear that each planet was only a single map? Earth is New Russia, etc.? Seems if this is a case, might be a bad argument to use in order to insult someone's intelligence.
No one is disputing that these planets can be added to in the future. This is certainly true. The point of this is the game's release as far as scale is very underwhelming compared to what many thought it would be.

It's because people are sadly like sheep and don't vote with their wallet and just line up and keep paying.
And as long as masses of people keep throwing money at these companies, gauging content via paid DLC's and expacs, they continue on doing it.
Can you blame them? Why release a full game for 60 bucks, when you can just release only 40% core game first and then continue receiving money for the remaining 60% via DLC's and expacs?
It's basically the same with MMO's these days. Hence, why so many people drop out before the first month is over.
And don't get me wrong. I finally bit the bullet (friend kept bugging me for days lol) and pre-ordered Destiny today for PS4.
But only the standard edition! They won't get any more from me, until I see what they going to deliver. I am not going to be fooled anymore with these special editions and expansion passes. Done with that.
In worst case I get a couple weeks fun out of it, until Shadows of Mordor releases in October.
Still I feel they way overhyped this game. And due to that, a lot of people's expectations are going to get crushed in coming weeks.
You just have to look at SW:TOR at what too much Hype does to people's expectations. As the game itself wasn't bad at all and quite fun! It's the huge hype that killed it off after launch. /shrug
Quake, just like Unreal Tournament and Battlefield 1942 back in the day, were a different breed of games.
All these games released with powerful mod Tools, which keeps these games alive and kicking still today.
What irks me most with Bungie and Destiny, is the total lack of information they have released so far. All this secrecy.
I mean sure, if these 4 playable Exploration maps have a decent size and are well build with lots of depth (many layers to explore).
But most important is how this game is going to work with the leveling and content?
Will Old Rusia be just a beginner zone (lvl1-5) and then you moving on to the moon (lvl6-10), then Venus (lvl11-15) and then Mars (lvl16-20) ? Which would be a really bad and dissapointing. Because then it would mean that you end up being stuck on a single map in the end, until the next DLC releases. Which is exactly the problem with themepark MMO's.
Or, which I hope it will be, that they have (say 5 Level interval) Level brackets for all 4 playable maps on each planet. So you can play on all 4 of them at random whenever you want. Or each map designed with easy mobs on the outskirts and the further you get into the map the higher level the mobs become. That would be a good design decision and increases replayability and longetivity considerably.
This is just all basic game info that should have been available by now. Why keep stuff like this secret?
