I'm somewhat regretting joining the EP - the zone chat feels like I'm back in junior high again. Is it like this in AD and DC also or lot better there? I know there was an assumption that EP would draw in more of the immature crowd and it seems to be true, although I would be interested to hear how it is elsewhere?

Well aside from the gold selling spammers, It's actually been pretty good.
People peacefully selling and trading, generally people have been helpful and polite with questions and stuff.
Occasionally you get a few of the bad apples, but all in all I cant complain.

i couldn't tell you, the first thing i did after i created my character was turn off zone chat.
i'm sure it is terrible though, permanent barrens chat i would assume.
I admit to having done some trolling in chat -- mainly harping on legitimate issues such as bugs or questionable design decisions just to get the fanboys riled up.
LMAO this in AD ^^^
I turned off Zone chat after I seen the first gold spammers and only have it on say guild and some other stuff. If you turn off Yell and zone the game is pretty peaceful with only guild chat going the most.
If you haven't seen any of the gold spam what faction are you in I will leave AD now.
Loving my Orc in DC and the chat so far seems to be very good. I've asked a few questions and they have been answered directly without sarcasm which even sarcasm is fine by me so everything is nice. Excited to actually join a guild and start conversing with others.
I haven't seen gold chat spam in months, although some of those post examples were what it was like the first month - especially that one where they posted so much you couldn't scroll up to find their name to ban them, haha. Traumatic memories.
Are you folks saying that you see AD zone chat like that NOW? I was in Auridon all evening helping a friend grind some ghosts in Tanzelwil for an achievement, and chat was just people talking, occasionally trying to sell something - no gold spam. I never see any when I hop onto my alts parked in a few different zones to get my daily mails either, although Rawl'kha zone chat is absolutely flooded with people buying and selling junk, it seems to have become the de facto trading zone.
Maybe I've been lucky with the time of day, but it's been my experience that gold spam in zone chat is squashed.
I haven't seen gold spam or bots in the last 2 months either & I have make alts in all 3 factions..
I'm in EU server btw maybe US server is different
dc was bad on release and for a bit afterwards, glenumbra was really bad for gold farmers. as soon as you logged in you got hit by them - even your mail was invaded with gold farmer spam.
then once got out of that area, the spam seemed to vanish. probably they couldnt be bothered to lvl up their toons. and after a while the devs seemed to get on the case - probably fed up with all the complaints that were submitted about the spammers.
have a couple of low lvl alts that are in that area and when i've bothered to log them in i've not noticed any real spam. the /zone chat seems to be ok - havnt heard any bucket mouths in chat for ages. get the usual people yelling out for help with bosses and dungeons or offering to sell stuff or wanting to buy it. but that's not unusual in games. think most spammers i've seen these days are those trying to get people to join their trading guild, and even those are not happening all the time.
can get some good chat going in zone now and then.
now i'm doing vet lvl stuff in my second allegiance area i'm still finding zone chat is not that bad. can be quiet at times, but that's not bad.
personally i wont turn off zone chat, never know when someone will need help with a boss you want to trash as well. or help with a dolmen etc. and as long as the ignore works if anyone does be a prat you can just hit that and play on while they make idiots of themselves in an empty room.
this is on the eu server. as someone else said above i dont know how things are on the na server, might be worse there or not, but overall no complaints about the current state of zone chat
i look this wrecked because i've got GIST.
Whats your excuse?

Lol, I do believe you. Not the first game with that type of chat either, AoC was about the same a few months after launch.
The problem is how to deal with it, it is spammers and people whining who sound loudest and post most so a few of them can make any gamechat insane.
I do remember that Lineage way back only allowed chat-access to people of a certain level, that did help alot though. It usually took a week or 2 of steady gaming to get that access. If you also add a bit of banning people from chatting for say a week or 2 if they act too badly then maybe things would be better.
I'm on the US server, no gold spams or bots. I have the feeling that the people saying they're seeing a lot of bots in chat are speaking from their experience the first month or so, which is why I asked. Because if that's the case, it would be a disservice to give that as the impression of how zone chat is now. Bots are smashed (thoroughly). It's actually the least (as in zero) gold-spammy mmo I've ever played now.
This thread IS from the first month--first week as a matter of fact. It got necroed last night by a gold spammer whose post got deleted (I know because I was the one who reported it) but since it wasn't locked it's got some of you guys thinking it's a new thread
Yeah. Chat is just fine and has been that way for several months.

Mainly in DC. It is funny, annoying, helpful and infuriating all at the same time. The yelling, cap lock spamming selling and rainbow colour guild recruitment threads are all annoying but you do get help from people for WBs, dolmens and dungeons from zone chat. Very rarely someone does come up with a random good one liner as well.
Mainly just pay attention to guild chat unless I'm in a city though.
