Crafting/Building, skill based, decent graphics?

BlueProteusBlueProteus Member UncommonPosts: 85

Time for my annual LFG post.

I enjoy crafting as much as fighting, and am looking for a game that does both moderately well. Wanted to see if anybody that's played some of the more recent releases had any recommendations.

I'm a fairly casual player, don't have a ton of time to play, so will probably never see "end game" in any game, and am not looking for PvP or raids.

I prefer skill-based, where you have complete freedom in what you do or specialize in, as opposed to being handed a fixed set of skills with your class choice.

Thoughts on what I've played:

EVE: I know it has a deep, great crafting system, but I don't want to be a spaceship. Looking for a world I interact with.

Darkfall: Would probably be perfect, were it not a gankfest. I don't like working for things that are looted from my corpse.

FFXIV: Not too bad, just wish it was more open world.

Wildstar: Ok, but the cartooniness turned me off after a while. I like a more "serious" world.

I will probably be revisiting EQ2 and Fallen Earth, as I liked the crafting in both. But I'm up for any suggestions.

Playing: Various Stuff
Played: AC, AoC, ArcheAge, BDO, CoX, EQ2, Eve, GW, LotRO, Ryzom, SWG, SWtOR, Vanguard, WoW, Etc.

    You're looking for Wurm Online.

Not decent graphics but everyting rest is Wurm, yes, Wurm is what you are looking for.

No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.

I tried Wurm a couple years back, liked the depth of crafting, but the graphics were pretty bad.

I should probably take another look though.

Check out Pathfinder Online (currently in alpha testing). What they're promising seems to meet your criteria quite nicely.

yeah I dont think Wurm is a good option for someone who wants good combat. Dont get me wrong the system of combat itself is actually interesting and in debth in Wurm but its also the fartherist thing from anything twitch related one cant

I do think Darkfall is really the only option given the parameters he is providing and I do understand the full loot problem. I think a PvE with only PvP when at war with another clan version of Darkfall would be nice/

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

    Not too much out there, currently. Off the top of my head;

Mortal Online - decent crafting / open world PK, but has full corpse looting and lots of griefers, like Darkfall

Minecraft - some really fun survival servers out there, some are open PK, some have PK areas

You might want to follow Albion Online, which looks promising as a crafting + PvP game.

If you are looking for a crafting, PVP oriented,  and recently release. I would recommend trying archeage, however it is currently down. And will be officially launch on sept 16. But you can have a headstart if you purchase the founders pack, although i don't recommend it for 1st time user since you might not like the game because we might have a different taste in terms of game.

As of the moment i am playing a game that i found out on steam while waiting for the official release of archeage. If you want to try the game im playing right now you can just click this link. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=308658066

Although its not a MMO, its a sports game. Freestyle football.

Archeage starts Friday for the headstart, and Tues for the public.  Its 100% what you are mentioning

@OP, I am someone who's also interested in a game with a deep crafting system. From my experience you have mentioned the good crafting mmos. Eq2 and final fantasy xiv. Ffxiv js actually great but the whole zoning thing really bothers me.
As someone else suggested archeage is a good bet. That game heavily focuses on crafting. From that perspective it looks great. However I will see how pay to win it is once it launches on the 16th sep. You should definitely try it too. It has some great crafting systems.

I am not sure to be honest as I have very little experience with the game and the only info I have to go by is the one I get from the internet from other people. My plan of action is to play game when it comes out and subscribe right away. I will then judge the game if I like it or not. If I feel that my experience is horrible even when subbed I will probably quit. But I really want to like the game because it sounds great. I love games with tons of crafting options where you can build pretty much anything. I love housing and I love the idea of building ships and having your own farm. It all sounds great so I will definitely play it. I am not going to bother playing it as a f2p game as I know there would be too mcuh restrictions for me to enjoy the game without sub.

well it will probably not become your main game (but it can, i do play it for hours a day), but i would say try therian saga. it is browser based sandbox (mm)orpg focused on crafting and exploring. combat is very basic, but i would argue that it is almost ideal for this type of game. it can be played as classic browser game (as in "set a queue for next few hours and log out") or it can be played more or less online if you are doing a lot of dungeon farming.

disclaimer: therian had recently (this week) server migration and there are currently quite a big problems they are trying to fix, there are reboots/crashes several times a day and quite a big lags, hopefully they will fix it soon and it will play again smoothly as  bfore the migration.
