Greenlight a year ago?

TalonsinTalonsin Member EpicPosts: 3,619
My understanding is that MO was approved for steam under the greenlight program just over a year ago but is still to this day not listed on steam.  Is this correct?  Anyone have any real knowledge on what the holdup is?

i believe they wanted to get MO into a state that would allow it to succeed on steam, supposedly after the tc update but who knows..

there are 2 types of mmo, imitators and innovaters.

Which is a nice way of saying that the Steam people took a look at the sorry state of MO and told the people running this thing to come back when the game actually worked. And was not a stoking pile of crap.

The Steam people obviously get a say in what actually is greenlit after people vote, and it looks like they were not impressed.

Not a surprise n the least...

Remember that this is a game that actually RELEASED... and charged people for the box and a sub... over 4 years ago!  I think the fact that "it's not ready for Steam" after 4 years really says a TON about what they pawned off on us as a "game".

I'm no fan of MO but, steam has no issues selling games that don't work. Look at the reviews on commando 1 and 2. Those games wont even load on a modern computer without the user going and finding a FAN mod to make it run. Steam didn't take those games down and even puts them on sale once in a while. That isn't the only examples of this. I've had to go find fixes a few times for games I've bought off there.

I seriously doubt it's the people running steam that have kept this game of their list.

You are exactly correct in saying that garbage has been released thru Steam in the past.

But enough people complained about it (and those games you mentioned among others) that Steam is being more attentive, especially for Greenlight games, to prevent their brand from being damaged.

By preventing the very experience you had yourself.

(This is especially a problem with "oldware"; games that had never been designed to run on newer operating systems, I had the same problem with JA2, myself. But MO is not oldware, it is just a crap MMO that has never run well.)

MO is a crap mmo how? Yes the water is buggy as fuck, yes you can get stuck, yes you can lose all your loot, but what still makes it shitty? since the engine update it's actually decent. obviously you have a really old PC because I run the game flawless no lag in large battles maxed out dx11.

What you just listed is the exact reason why this game is shit. 4 years in and you are still dealing with game-breaking bugs such as this?

I really wanted this game to succeed but it is just too poor for me to pump money into. If I didn't have to sub to play this game MAYBE I would be a little more lax on it, but as it is it is downright awful.

well if you can find a better ffa loot pvp game let me know, one that has females and solid combat. really only the water is game breaking for me nothing else. Life is Fudal won't even have an MMO server for who knows how long and I just learned it's gonna be a sasuage fest so that made me a little disinterested because Rust really killed it for me LoL

It's been a long time since I've posted here. Not surprised to see the MO hate squad still here in full force. I will never understand why you guys do what you do, but I'm glad you feel so passionate about something.

Just to clarify the misconception here, SV has authorization to release on Steam at any time. They are purposefully waiting until they implement a few more features before releasing to Steam.

Over 4 years after they "released" the game by having players buy the client and pay a sub...  THAT perfectly shows the condition of the product they tried to sell at release in 2010..

The developers always stated that because of their small team and limited budget, they would have to release and slowly improve the game, similar to what was done with EVE Online. It hasn't been as fast as anyone has liked, but the game has improved steadily and significantly over the years. That fact cannot be disputed honestly.

Even though progress has been slow, many of us have still enjoyed our time in game more than any other MMO currently on the market.

Clearly you won't be happy until StarVault is boarding up their windows and laying off all their employees. For their sake and mine, I hope you don't get your wish.

if their staff didn't readily abuse their playerbase they would probably garner less hatred. Thats just how it works, they reap what they sow.

I've apparently been lucky, but I've never personally encountered the abuse you're referring to.

Guys, we found the criteria people judge MO by.

  • filmoretfilmoret Member EpicPosts: 4,906
I'll give an answer directly from head GM.  They are currently working on huge expansion that includes 1-2 more ENTIRE CONTINENTS.  They are also making ready for ship building and ship combat in the seas.  These things will be released before they launch on steam.  Because it will allow for thousands of players to all play on the same world.

I have played MO for a very short time and having seen the MANY games on Greenlight i can honestly say MO is a far better product than MOST on Steam Greenlight.

I have no idea why it would not be available, must have been some legal issues or contract issues, perhaps Valve wanted to big a cut of any sales/profits who knows.

I'm going to have to agree and I think MO is an incredibly buggy game with a corrupt staff and horrible CEO. I amno lover of MO... But i'm honest.

Steam green Light has pretty much zero quality control.  I could make a "hello World" app that only says "hello Wo" and sell it as an RPG and it could get greenlight... And people would defend it. 3 years later they would be like "Its early access man- Chill out.  Itll eventually say 'hello world" and when people scoff at my $60 price tag people would say "Devs need to make money too"

    -It would be good times.

MO is waiting because THEY know this is the last hope they have and rather than just try for a cash grab they are really trying to gain population and save their game... Which they wont...

    -True story. All of it.

Its bad when you have to quote yourself.  Yes what I said was correct and directly from the head GM during gameplay.  So all the theories aren't true look at what I wrote.  If you don't believe me then goto the game and ask the GMs yourself.
