I tried getting back into this game awhile back, but i just couldn't level up anymore after around 25. Character models and customization, race choices, are very bland, and the sound effects are average. The questing and combat is unbearable. Everything else was pretty standard and alright though. Everytime i see updates and expansions to Rift though, i get envious, because i know their players are getting something that they will probably enjoy. I can't say the same for other MMOs though. Good job Trion.
Can I ask were you playing a warrior . I've played them and found the combat animations a bit limited . If you play as a rogue , mage or cleric the combat is a lot better . The race choices are quite standard for fantasy I think two types of elf , two types of human , a dwarf and the Bhami look very much like Orcs to me . Questings pretty much standard for mmos its go and kill x number of mobs ,find this and escort that . I got bored with it too around 25 and just went through the warfronts and dungeons . I think if you got to 60 you might find a lot to enjoy about the game but I guess its hard if you are finding a paticular part of the game tedious I was in the same boat when I was playing the Isengard patch in Lotro .
the expansion has 3 collectors editions available, of them the top 2 have a "instant level 60" potion, worth thinking about if you wanted a return but hadn't made it to 60 previously. you get a set of 60 gear included with the level up process giving you all you need to start the new expansion.
