Do you want Virtual Reality MMO games?
With all the latest talk and excitement over the new age of VR headset gaming, I am curious of how long it will take for this to transfer to the MMO gaming universe.
Recent news has it that the oculus rift will have its public beta in he year 2015.
Well would you all like to see VR MMOs come from this?
If so, than what sort of gameplay elements you want to see in a VR MMO as a standard?
If not, than what sort of advancements are needed to get you interested in VR MMOs?

Assuming VR actually works and delivers on its promises I can't imagine anyone not wanting VR in their games. It's like saying "Do you want graphics in your games?" It could totally revolutionize the gaming experience.
I really don't see myself using VR much until we find a proper comfortable way of registering movement.
All the weird threads and shoes we're seeing right now look incredibly uncomfortable and would kill immersion for me.
I'd rather wait for the real deal, VR just isn't quite there yet for me.
I can't imagine any mmo, or going further any third person stuff on this. I might as well just sit closer to my monitor. At the other hand action combat with first person view would be interesting. But i suppose my brain would melt, by all the jumping, dahsing etc.
I also predict a lot of stuff being broke to pieces, within the room i'd use it.
Of course, and if we're really lucky we might get a little Golden Age MMO revival.
I imagine the people first doing proper VR MMOs are going to be hardcore enthusiasts not interested in mass market success, just like the earliest and best MMOs.
Well, what we need to get to make a good VR MMO is basically more and faster memory, harddrives and RAM is currently bottlenecking us for the more realistic graphics you want the more it takes.
Good VR can't just show people from 4 sides after all like old C-64 games, when someone is turning you need to truly see them do that.
Graphicscards and CPUs have some limits right now as well but it is memory that is the huge problem right now. There is however nano technology on the way that will fix this so 2020 or so we might get our first AAA MMO made for VR.
VR might solve that, it is far more realistic seeing something in front of you than on a screen a few feet away.
It should help, at least I hope.
But what really irritates me and both makes me hate first person as well as makes me nauseous is that it feels like the head is on a swivel mount while the body is fixed in place and the arms just kinda feel tacked on.
As soon as first person can make me feel like my avatar has a body, it'll be the correct sensation.
Then again, what does it worh, if you are still looking at your character from the outside?
I wouldn't play any third person stuff on it for sure.
Just imagine watching matrix from Neo's view on this. *.*
Or kill themselves running screaming into the nearest wall.
Vr does not only say realistic.
It could still be as it is today but you could be looking at it from inside the game itself and not on a computer screen. Right now you have to turn your mouse or use keyboard to turn your camera to see in every direction in a mmorpg, but imagine looking around with your head : left, right, top, bottom. Then you want to move then press both mouse buttons at the same time as you do now and you just move forward, etc.
This is the problem why it is taking so long to get Vr on the market. People only imagine themself playing games that look like a movie when they talk about Vr, i know how they feel i would also like to have access to that type of technologie. But it is not something they will give us at any time soon. So for now if we base it on what we have, all the current or near future mmo's could be played on a Vr headset like occulus and i am very sure that everyone would love it.
There is some new vids out on youtube actually that shows some games running it and trust me when i say it is very cool to feel like if your inside one of those spaceships. The guy moves is head and the camera moves at the same time in the same direction he his looking at, he does not see any borders or double screen in fron t of him or anything like that, it is exactly like if he his looking in the real world at something, you don't sense anything different then the real world except you know that is it 3d animations in front of you. that is the only thing.
So yes Vr could be so cool right now even without playing a game that looks so real as in real life. PvP would be so cool, PvE also imagine looking at the boss in raid and feel like if you where there at his feet and he his like 60 feet tall right in front of you and you are the tank that will keep him on you. My heart is racing already just by thinking about it.
i think we have to wait for the age of quantim computin b4 we can get good vr
but it sure wuld b nice dunno how it would b handled maybe voice activated?
i dont want virtual reality. Im not saying it shouldnt exist, i dont mind if it exist as an option, im saying i dont want it as my personal way to experience gaming. I want to keep playing my video games the way we have done it since its inception, with a controller and mouse/keyboard.
What sort of advancements are needed to get me interested? im not sure, but definitelly not a device like Occulus or Morpheus that go right on my face. I am very sure a lot of people will develop vision problems in the long term by using those devices. If technology advances enough to have a VR setup in a room that doesnt require goggles then i would be more interested.
Yes !
The first attempts will probably be very limited and quite possibly terrible, but things will rapidly settle out into clear directions of what works and what doesn't work. The potential is massive, and the different design directions that will emerge should be very interesting indeed.

Sure, why not? Isn't the Eve: Valkyrie project leaning in that direction? I'll be honest, I've not followed it closely, so not sure if is intended to be an "MMO" versus a cool tech demo in an established game world.
It'd be cool to get to the point of something like "Sword Art Online" minus the..umm..permadeath part. I'm not holding my breath that something that immersive would be accomplished while I'm still gaming, but it is neat to see the technology developing. Between this and 3-D printing, I expect a holodeck to be installed in my children's future houses!

I want the VR MMORPG to be so good, its very difficult to tell the difference between game and real life.
Also... if you die in-game, it uses microwaves to fry your brain..
