Seriously though, the difference between trolling and satire is intent.
Yeah? Because I can't actually remember the last time a mod here asked me about my intent before suspending or whatever for alleged trolling.... If they had I would have happily told them I was being 'satirical'.
I am so happy this is now MMORPG.com policy, it is a fantastic step forward that we are now going to enter discussions regarding intent before action is taken!
I love these arguments. It's like I'm talking to my 5 year-old. Here, I'll settle this the same way.
Yes, Mom and Dad do stay up later than you. Yes, your older brothers do stay up later than you. Why? Because that's what we said. Oh, you don't like it? Too bad, that's our rules and we can change your bedtime to 7:30 if you don't like it. What? That's not fair? Too bad, it's not a democracy. If you're not happy then get out of my house and go get a job. Oh, and while we're at it, yes, Mom and Dad do keep all the best treats for ourselves, once you go to bed, yes we did eat most of your Halloween candy and, yes, we did break your car with the siren on it on purpose. That's just how we roll!
Wow somebody doesn't sound like a very good parent.

Well, actually he's 6, but parents don't really remember how old you are either. Sorry to ruin your childhood.

Casuals aren't the problem. Hardcores aren't the problem. Hell, the Devs aren't the problem. The problem is the Investor. They want to see a return on investment. They want their profits. The quickest way to this is ensuring that your game is for everyone. The downside is that this forces the Devs to cater/listen to the casuals. Casuals pay the bills for online games. Keeping them happy is a surefire way to ensure your investors are happy. Wrong or Not, it is how things go.
That is why I like niche games. People play them with the understanding of what they are getting themselves into.
In regards to the post, it is amusing, but I'll stop short at funny.

It's funny because it's true. Anyone who disagrees is a filthy causal, and yes I know it's 95% of you people out there. This is why MMOs suck they try to make a multiplayer game to appease single player oriented people. WTF is the point of an online game if you play it solo all the time. Go back to you single player games plz!
I can't believe people are actually arguing the merit of this article... wait for it, wait...
They must be filthy casual forum posters...
Can't you? It is the hypocrisy of MMORPG.com publishing said articles when so many of their members have been warned or banned for using similar 'satire' on the forums that irritates me.
Putting that to one side I thought the article was entertaining.
Great piece of satire. I got a good chuckle out of it. I hope to see more observational satire type articles from you in the future. I may even have to share this one.
To be a dedicated raider the article is actually 100% spot on.
We used to require the very same things from all raiding members - even did interviews over Ventrillo.
Hell I remember having to audition for an OT spot in a dedicated raiding guild back in Vanilla WoW. Got the "job" and was 2nd best geared tank on my server for a bit (our MT was #1).
Alas, I was a younger man, no wife, no life Monday - Thursday nights!
Last time I checked Casual / Hardore was seperated by time spent playing
Like I can be online in games the majority of the week and it surprised me that due to the hours per play session that article put me as Hardcore.
Casual in that was put as under two hours
So by the two separate articles that means you have Casuals who are Hardcore as in the small amount of time they play, they will take part in raids etc
And Hardcore who are Casuals because they play extensively but don't raid
And no I don't have a link to the other article, it was awhile ago and my memory sucks
I'm tempted to interpret this as an ironic troll if anything. I actually agree with nearly everything he said; I just wouldn't have been so acrimonious. On a different note, I wonder if I should respond with an inflammatory post about casual-shaming or filth-shaming. Decisions, decisions.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
