Headstart - not so smart?

KangaroomouseKangaroomouse Member Posts: 394

So let me get this straight - Players on head start that paid a lot of money for a couple of virtual crap are:

  1. Unable to log in most of the time.
  2. All housing areas are taken by greedy LP potion popping re-sellers.
  3. The economy is already in shambles.
  4. They paid for 4 day head start and get maybe 2 if they are lucky.
  5. Will play on servers only with other whales and power hungry guilds trashing the housing market and economy.
I am glad i will start on the 16th. Fresh server with mixed population and no greedy Founders.

I thought that a  dev said yesterday that there are no new plans for more servers at this moment.

Have you got any info that there adding more as I feel at least a few more would be good.

There will be new server just not right now. They only said that they want to wait till the first headstart surge ends. Basically doing the smart thing instead of opening too many servers too fast and ending up with a PvP game with empty servers.

    Relax my friend.  You are too caught up in the moment and overreacting.  Regarding your points;

    1.  It's a fresh launch.  This is normal with all newly released MMORPGs.  In a matter of a few days this will be a non-issue.

    2.  This will also subside once those who over purchased are unable to afford said land.  Gold sellers and opportunists also took advantage of the opportunity to try to make money.  It's greed and natural for a subset of humanity.  This will also eventually subside with very little, if any, side effects.  People will get land, it will just be a little later.

    3.  The economy is new.  It is not a shambles.  Economies are all about supply and demand.  No real harm has been done at all.  Once again, just an initial bout of greed that will normalize in short order after the initial release.

    4.  Its true that the head start has been a mess for a percentage of founders.  However, it is not as bad as you perceive it to be.  If it where, you would see threads like this with multiple hundreds of replies.  This is not the case.  There is a minority that have been affected by this and they are voicing their disgust as they should.  This is not intended, however, to minimize the atrocity that this has been for some founders.  It has been really bad for some, but the majority haven't experienced anything outside of what would be expected from a newly launched game.

    5.  It's a PvP-centric game.  Competition and conflict makes for greater PvP.  In the short term there will be and imbalance but it will all eventually iron itself out.

This type of turmoil happens in the majority, if not all, new launches.  Trion understands this and are exhibiting proper restraint for calls from the community to implement drastic band aid measures that would hurt the game long term.  They are responding in a cautionary manner.  I have confidence that Trion will get this right.  Yes, there will be short term pain, but in the long haul we will all be better off for it.

In a few weeks, alliances will be made and great battles will be won.

Since when does the opposite of free = greedy?  Food stamps are free, are people that buy their food greedy? Why isn't the opposite of a paying customer a cheap customer?

    Just something to think about.

It kinda sounds a bit like when the US bought Oklahoma from the native Americans and had a race for the settlers to get the best spots. Didn't bring out the best in people that time either.

Then again, not sure how to solve this in a good way, might not be one (besides making the game extremely huge).

Not sure what point you're trying to make with this statement.  Care to explain?  Greed is what's happening in AA now.  There are many players, if not most, who have 6 or more plots of land.  Many are already being offered for sale.  I think most would described this as a classic case of greed.  Of course, those who benefit may describe it as simple capitalism.

They are one and the same.

It is a classic example of economy in an sandbox game...this is what sandbox games are all about. Freedom. People wanted it and they got it.

    1. I haven't been down 3 hours since the game started .....wrong again

    2. Didn't have to pop a since pot to get 6 - 16*16 cottages and 2 -8*8 farms - LP no issue

    3. Economy seems good ...big guilds have all the Galleon's built and 10 + trade runs done

    4. Already on my 3rd day ......more bullshit

    5. Housing was fucked by greedy pigs didn't cost them anything .... Everyone that cried about  LP restrictions got exactly what they deserved

The irony is if they open another server and that's a big IF ...same thing will happen

PS ..... Next time folks make hundreds of post why LP and land use should have been restricted perhaps the selfish mouthy crowd that blasted the forums with hate ... and freedom of play threads can use this head start as a reference

    1. Wrong - i played entire 1st day no prob. Second day it was a little up and down with the servers for about 3 hrs. Thats it !! Not sure where you got your info. Trion claimed it was a DDOS.

    2. Wrong- There are tons left, at least on my server. They just arent the best plots. Not sure where you got your info.

    3. There barely is an economy, how can it be in shambles??

    4. Wrong, already had 2, looking forward to 3 and 4.

    5. There are big  guilds on all 6 or 7 servers ,so good luck finding a server with no "Big guilds"

The OP's post is nothing more than either a butt hurt post of having to wait until the 16th or just a pure flame thread. Could go either way, You Choose !!!

Nobody promised a spot of land with founders name on it.  Or did they?

So someone lost the race, someone grabbed to much.  I hope Trion learned from RU experience and wont open to many servers.

And how, in any way, is that better? People who start the game late (read: at release) can't even get a house.

I've learned all I needed to learn about this game by reading the forums... I have 110% faith in that. I'd say F2P in 6 months, but since it's already there... I'll just say dead in a year.

Except the ArchAge forums lit up like a bonfire at spring break. The support forums fell over and have a response time of 96h according to Trion. Something has gone wrong for a lot of founders.

Some did not even get founder status. If in my little guild there are already 6 people with massive issues regarding their account and another 10+ that could not log in more than a couple of hours then i bet the big picture is worse.

Login servers where down this morning. Current que is at 3-4 hours.

One has nothing to do with the other. The game might be good, but the premium clients that paid up to $150 got a stinker. That is not a good way to treat your "whales, sharks and sardines".

    ----

See, the problem here is that Trion will not make money if there are no housing spots. Why would anyone pay for premium when there is no housing and farming spot guaranteed. It's a real problem for Trion and it will lead to massive bleed if they don't open new servers.

    ----

I sure as hell will not pay premium if i can't have a house or farm. I bet 99% of the players think the same.

That is all cool and gritty, PvP economy, cut-throat land grabbing capitalism.

    ----

The problem is that no one will pay for premium if there is no land which is a problem for Trion which means they have to open new servers when land is taken. Unless, they hate money which i doubt considering they already "scammed" a large amount of players for a botched head start on overcrowded servers. Oops!

    1. False - the only time i was not able to log in was during DDOS yesterday - my guildies have been online playing for the last 11 hours when I logged in this morning

    2. Not all - just the popular spots - no surprise here

    3. ????? Complete fantasy on your part

    4. Again depends on server - not every server has Kyrios queues

    5. Again conjecture

The Irony is YOU havent played yet and you are commenting on things you have no idea what you talking about and are only being a sheep to the rest of these whining people. I will got throught your post one by on.

1 Unable to log on.  my guild and allies have not and any issues besides a 20-25 minute wait at the most so stop reading what people are saying here and research for yourself.

2 Housing : while it is true there is no housing left in the safe areas the PvP areas have a lot of housing . the fact that people WORKED to get houses and have 3-4 of them only means they will be killed in taxes and the spent all their gilda and will have to WORK even harder for other items such as a boat. Everyone had a chance to get a house . in a SANDBOX space is limited just like in real life. If you cant understand that LoTRs has instant housing try that game. As for the LPs they are 1000 labor every 12 hours as Founders we got points to spend why not use them sorry that you didnt buy the game and become a founder but people have been planning for months. the 1000s and 1000s of players in game are all having a blast and understand Supply and Demand.

3: How can you say the economy is in shambles if you havent been in game? Again you are a sheep following the foroms. In any Sandbox where resources are limited prices will be super high. Just like in Real life Supply and Demand its simple Economics.

    4. Payed for 4 days only got 2: well I have been on every day for at least 8 hours each day . Im logged on now in fact so AGAIN you are sheeping listening to people in the forums Research please .

5 Whales and powerful guilds: well you got me here see my guild is small but we locked down an area from the beginning and everyone of our 40+ members have a house and a fam in fact had  it within 2 hours of head start. Big giant guilds have only one thing Numbers but no organization.

To recap You will never get anywhere by whining and following the pack of whiners on the forums. If you are going to be a free player well sorry you really dont need Labor anyway, you cant own a farm you cant own a house so why even complain. Oh and P.S. you can buy a house with Gold from others mineis for sale 7500 gold.

In the immortal words of my 2 year old niece people who whine have her saying : Give me give me give me.

Will you be one of these people or will you break off from the herd and learn for yourself ..time will tell.
