I know quite a few really chill folks in RL who are just absolutely merciless in game.

Games provide a safe outlet to play out parts of human psyche that are not acceptible in RL.

That's why I tend to call that kind of people "cowards" or "armchair bullies".

They do in games where there are no serious consequences what they don't dare to do in reality since they would get beaten or worse.

Sorry, I have a hard time labelling a person saying "All I want is to be an ass to other players" as a nice guy. When you get pleasure by making others miserable, no matter in what community is it, yeah, even online, it's pretty obvious what kind of person you are to me. But I guess it's pretty cool to feel like a "gangsta" in a video game, safely hidden behind a computer screen.

they're only miserable because they dont realize what just happened to them is actually really funny.

You can however escape from jail but you are debuffed.

Now there are clans that are dedicated to doing all that stuff. They are called pirates and there are several guilds recruiting that are all pirate guilds. there are several free for all islands between the continents perfect for piratey bases.

You won't be able to level just by doing those thing however because you only get xp from killing mobs, doing quests, crafting, and harvesting.

So basically I cannot level as a pirate? I heard things like its better to level up normally then become a pirate later on. Its kinda lame, it is basically saying that the strongest players are going to be the carebears just farming and grinding and you wont be able to kill them because you cant level by killing them from the beginning.

You can but its much slower. All you need to do is to get to lvl cap and then become a pirate. If you will become a pirate your lvling will all be with your a$$ up in a farm gethering and planting. Not really a pirate way.

So as i said lvl to cap as fast as you can by any means, then go pirating.

If you will get good pirate guild its bring more income then farming with much more fun.

Usually its a power thing, certain types can feel powerless in their own lives and seek to overcome this in games, it would be very easy to pigeonhole such atypical reactions, although its more than a little amusing to see how a little 'psychological profiling' works to further 'identify' an individual case, given that the subject is male and possibly early 20's, though the implied maturity level does seem lower, that probably indicates that the subject is still living at home with a parent(s), i say parent because the anger levels and the defensive attitude displayed implies that there may have been a break up of some kind which the subject was powerless to affect, the subject may also be unemployed or perhaps 'under employed' reinforcing the 'powerlessness' they feel, which can often be due to a feeling that what they do has little impact or potential for advancement, an example of which may well be someone who collects shopping trollies at a local supermarket, being able to overcome this and regain a feeling of 'power' in a game might well be cathartic for such a person.

Well, i can say when i was  teenager playing UO I terrorized people because i wanted to be hunted back I wanted to fight someone anyone. I loved the competition the challenge of the red life couldn't shop from vendors couldn't enter towns very much, the stat loss, the prestige of being red. I wanted the blues to form up and try to chase and kill me. It was all about the hunt. The other part was sometimes i killed people of rival guilds simply to stop their progression so they would grow more powerful more slowly and gave us a territorial dominance. Killing was the business and business was good nothing personal. I didnt hate anyone at all i didnt want people to be sad or quit and i certainly didn't want people to feel grief. I was just playing an outlaw and often times i helped players out and get them in the game and I geared them out and showed them some ropes helped them recover bodies or hunt a bit while chatting. Now days, I really dont do that and i pretty much just spend my time crafting and exploring and I dont really pvp like I used to. Maybe its a testosterone thing because i feel more lethargic in life too and I dont box anymore and just pretty much laze about so i laze about in game lol.

In my experience, people who are really good at PVP and PKing don't start whiny threads in general MMO sites bellyaching about how you can't PK from level 1... they just f**king do what they need to do and have whiners for breakfast... just saying.

OP waste no more time. Boot up Archeage and you show those Care Bears. Make them go cry mode. Then gank them again all their potatoes are yours!

You want to gank carebears and not other pirates? Surely killing other pirates is more profitable? But I guess I can see the appeal of a wannabe pirate, let the other players do the work for you, because well, what else do you know?

it's like the real world.  murderers exist but they get punished and there are significantly less of them than there are law abiding people.  Eve is the same way.  there's no barrier saying you can't gank people as they undock but few people try to do thisd

it makes it more immersive, not less, for me.  in a game like DF where there is little discouragement for lawlessness, you just assume everyone is a dick and keep away from everyone  not in yourclan or alliance.

RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

So does that mean that they are inherently merciless but just wont do it out of fear of the real world repercussions? Therefore the only way they can let their true selves out is in a game where there are very little "real world" repercussions?

Well, at least they are doing it in a game and not taking out a walmart.

Now I understand how the anti-violent video games movement got started. i guess all the carebears play mmorpgs because they cant kill rats and wolves all day long irl.

Not sure why people are getting so upset over the way he wants to play the game. I thought the beauty of a sandbox was that you could do whatever you wanted. Its a fantasy world nothing like real life. I expect you would not like it if he told you how to play the game, so why do you think he would respond differently?

How sad it is that some people can only find joy in destroying or harrassing other players. I will say that I hope you find a game that fits your playstyle because you will never affect me since I like to help people, play cooperatively and work together to have fun.

People who enjoy the type of things the OP does in a video game should be taken to a phsychologist as its an indication of a mental instability issue.

I pity you OP and I hope you get some help because you certainly need it, just like every other player out ther ewho would agree with you.

Ges doesn't have big plans, he's like a dog chasing a car, He wouldn't know what to do if he caught it. His enjoyment is destroying other peoples perfect plans.

thats just plain wrong. i do have big plans. i want to be in one of the most feared pirate clans in the world, pillage and loot all the carebears growing their potatoes, then post the videos of them whining on youtube while remixing the sound to dubstep.

So your main goal is to grief what you call carebears?

A very interesting route your taking. However you better find a guild that share your same goals asap.

Another thoguht: Why is it that these FFA pvp greifers never seem to learn that this playstyle NEVER works, and EVERY SINGLE ONE of these types of games have failed to pick up a large audience and last more than a couple years.

    When will they learn?

  • zzaxzzax Member UncommonPosts: 324
Thanks god there are still people like OP. I thought that everyone is "Hello Kitty" nowdays.

    +10 for logic.

If this is how the OP wants to play and the game allows it who is anyone to judge.  If it is not your style, team up with a guild and travel in packs.  Ganker won't go after a group and look to get the easy solo kills.  Want to kill half his enjoyment? If he kills you, collect your corpse and move on. If you don't throw a fit in private chat he has nothing to post on youtube as people on youtube belittle gank videos as it shows no skill.

They just want to get the player reaction and in a video game you can easily ignore them and not respond to their taunts. Granted seeing he/she/it said carebear and people wigged out, he is already winning.

I dont understand the whining. Without players like the op the game would just be yet another meaningless themepark. Players like the OP create content

    When will they learn?

But they do work, just for a smaller audience.

Also, in fairness, there aren't that many high end AAA FFA games around. They always seem to be cobbled together by enthusiastic gamer/developers.

The average "gamer" sort of wants a polished, complete experience.

To that end the same question can be asked "how is it that strictly pve players always play games with FFA pvp or a heavy pvp component and then complain?

The easiest way "not" to be griefed is not to play these games.

As far as what another poster asked regarding "how the OP" wants to play. I don't think people are agitated over him wanted to play as a "pirate". I do think they are agitated because it doesn't seem to be about "playing a pirate" but "getting off" on griefing other players and then taking it "out of game" to post on other sites.

    That to me speaks volumes.
