Worth playing for a casual player?

SpeedhaakSpeedhaak Member UncommonPosts: 296

Hi folks.

I've just gotten an email off Trion with regards to ArcheAge and I did a bit of research on the game. Looks interesting enough and it's been a long time since I played a Sandbox MMO (Vanguard at launch I would suspect) - Thing is, before I go ahead and download the game (I know there's now reason not to as a F2P model, but still) is it worth getting into as a casual player?

My days of playing for 15 odd hours at a time are long, long gone and now I'm lucky if I can spare an hour or two a night, here and there. So, the question is dear community - is it worth my time and would I be able to do anything at all with my given time? I'm currently playing Diablo and Destiny which suit 'burst play' perfectly, so any feedback is welcomed. Thank you!

It is NOT a Sandbox and it is NOT worth playing without paying the sub. For me, it is not worth playing at all.

Im a casual player to, dont play more then 20h a week, and for me it tottaly worth it.

Now, this is not a good time to try it out imo, you can find several post around reporting some AA problems atm, like the 2, 3h of queue.

Edit: ofc, if you can launch the game at least 2h befor your play time you might be hable to play the game image

From the list of games you seem to be a PVE'er as well....if that's the case, i would skip it altogether.  Without a sub the crafting is very limited due to LP and with a sub crafting is all you got.

The PVE content is pretty mediocre and at times just bad.

But the boats and PVP appear to be pretty good.

For being a Casual Player, Arche Age can be done, but you have to look at other part there going be people that get items faster then you can there the one that pay in a lot or play a ton, but if you want to just enjoy the game play test out you can as a casual even have a boat and sail around. But you will be limited on some stuff in Arche Age but it's free to play so you can play it, if you don't like can just stop playing and you never have to look back or pay a dime.

I can tell you that I enjoyed casually playing Alpha solo, and starting a month late.

I got to the level cap easily thanks to farming, crafting and building.  I largely stayed out of conflict areas except for some speedy resource runs across the ocean.

There are a lot of elements that are aimed at guilds, and I do plan to join a guild with my play group at release, but that doesn't mean you won't enjoy the casual solo elements.

"Sandbox" has some alternate definitions championed by various groups of people.   The definition I use is that a games "sandboxy-ness" is proportional to the power of the player to alter the shared gaming experience.   Under that definition, Archeage definitely falls on the sandbox side of the spectrum, albeit with themepark elements tacked on like levels and static quests.

I played Lineage 2 quite intensely when it came to EU and I pvp'd in WoW heavily at launch. I just find that nowadays I don't have the time to research builds, stats and rotations to be decent at pvp. Thanks again for the feedback from posters though.

Well if you are being literal and only have 1 to 2 hours to play max per night... I'd wait a while... the queues alone will eat up the majority of that if not all of it.

Forgot how rubbish the text editor is here.

Yeah, literally that much. It all depends on work and training, and whether or not the missus will kick up a fuss if I'm playing games. Lots of variables in my game time, which is why I don't raid or anything any more.

    lol...forgot to answer why...lol

There are levels and max skill points so even though you might be undergeared, you won't be underskilled, so casual play should work (unlike Darkfall, Mortal Online or Eve where time is of the essence)

Cool. Well, I'm downloading anyway, and will give it a shot. I don't hold my breath any more, the days of getting hyped up over new releases are long gone for me too - as it's been a pretty dissapointing decade ;)

after being in cue for 2 hours and playing for awhile i would say its very casual friendly. The secret is your guild, you wont really be able to own a house or do some of the stuff patrons can. But with a casual guild you should be fine.

Darkfall is a better PvE game than this...by a lot.  I can't believe they made this game without real loot tables on mobs.  I'm hoping the sandbox/pvp/siege stuff is worth having zero worthwhile PvE.

From what I've seen you will get to max level in no time, even playing casually.  Being a casual player should be no problem.

I played 3-4 of the betas and I am a casual player now.  I like the skill system, but the combat is very very standard.  One thing about being casual is that there are quest hubs where you pick up 4-5 quests run out do them and return.  I did a little crafting, but it will be hard without a sub I think.  I do not think the game is terrible and I did not reach the magical level of 30 for PVP or whatever, but I am going to be playing it again.  Right now the queues are terrible though I just tried to log in and there was over 3k people in queue.

On a side note if you want something faster paced and solo friendly I would try neverwinter.  I like the combat and flow of that game and have 2-3 max level chars there.  Once you get past a certain point then you will have to spend some $$ or put in a serious serious grind.
