I live in Los Angeles and I see this game as a failure of a MMO. Here are the reasons as to why I believe this.
Number One: "The game in no way brings people together." Having solidified the argument that this is a single-player game set in MMO fashion, the illusion that work is being done is unrewarding. (The grab for personal power is ever present within the parameters of leveling, virtual items, and online social status. These key points have devastated the once important vision of a thriving online community. Understanding that none of the items nor characters are real in the game dissuades average players to a T.)
Number Two: "The game actually encourages violence on a community basis IRL." This is a very hot topic and the argument itself is quite pathetic but the evidence is too overwhelming to overlook. I'll begin with the fact that a fellow gamer actually came to my house to dish out some kind of punishment for my misbehaving in this game. I was quite wary as to why a stranger would actually knock on my door at a random hour of the day but it turned out he wanted to buy my vehicle I had parked in my driveway. The suspicion is justified due to the timing of his arrival and preordained knowledge of ownership of my vehicle in my driveway. The implied consent of his motivation was obviously to teach me some kind of lesson for behavior he deemed unworthy for the online world. Obviously he was not prepared in any case other than in modes of intimidation and/or coercion. That said, he bought the car and assumed that the invisible message/punishment was dished out in a civil manner. There are a few things which are disturbing about this awkward situation. Firstly if he did come to my house based on dialogue in a video game, then he obtained the address of my residence very likely through illegal means and I can only assume a hostile intent in confronting a stranger from a MMO. Secondly, the will to impose an invisible message and/or punishment to a stranger mortifies any normal citizen of American heritage. This reason is a very complex issue and the correct forum is necessary to completely expound on this subject. Other than that, justifying violence in the name of the community or ideology conjures recent travesties in our human history.
Number Three: "I keep deleting characters and creating characters having never past level 22." The MMO has been out for a few months now and I already see 'the wall' placed to stop new players from actually enjoying the game. Now a days all MMO's must be 'devastated' in terms of obtaining as much material wealth in as little as time as possible. The influence of such a rapid pace of acquisition of virtual items demotivates the average online persona. This is the opposite of the average IQ rating of all Americans. Without the majority or base of gamers necessary to keep the game afloat, then the individual wishing to fulfill the desire to understand the game is absent. The only other option i see is going to $5 platform games which provide a few hours of entertainment. The last I recall, Morrowind had 100 hours of gameplay. In retrospect, it should take 3 months for a character to reach level 43 (which is the highest I've seen.) Motivate oneself to be as fast as possible and the doors open to these activities: Buy a Leveled Character on Ebay: Time Equals: 30 minutes max. Ignore all outside influence which distracts the gamer from leveling up as fast as possible. And the worst I can imagine, use the program as a means of connecting with individuals who share unsavory aspects of the human condition. All of which comprise the security of the now long gone average gamer.
This is where loyalty is the only important factor to keep the players coming back for more. Those with the resources to level up to godly levels wish to shine their extravagance to others who they may think are fresh meat. Those with easy going tastes play to enjoy the visual concepts of the game but are lampooned by one thousand wannabe Shakespeare's who'd rather demean another community member than actually play the game. In time, I may get past level 22 but after numerous character deletions in 2 weeks, the pinnacle of enjoyment I felt the first day of playing the game is now a mindless slog of a FPS mass murder with swords and axes and no intrinsic value to the members of the MMO trying to be part of the community, supporting the community, and fighting for the community. Good luck guys, you're gonna need it! If I see you around then you already broke the law finding out who I am.

I live in Manchester and I agree.

Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.
And exactly what would he be envious about?
The game is an unequalled failure. Whether he's a troll or not is something else, but he has no reason to be envious of anything. More likely that he's just beating the dead horse, which is everyone's favourite sport in the internet anyway.
My opinion is my own. I respect all other opinions and views equally, but keep in mind that my opinion will always be the best for me. That's why it's my opinion.
It may not live up to all of your expectations OP, but it hardly is a failure as an mmo. I think it does just as well as the next niche title out in the last few years.
Apparently a location is required for this thread. Utah (not Mormon)
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
First I am curious why you need to qualify where you live. In no listing of the geekiest cities or most gamers in city is LA even listed. I am glad you are proud of where you live but is mean NOTHING to validate your opinion.
Number One: This point is the only one you have with merit and even it is not completely accurate. The additional zones like Craglorn that are designed for group play, group bosses, group dungeons and the PVP are all meant to make people play in groups. While the early game does not need it, the truth is the game is more fun in a group. If you need a game to FORCE you to be social you have issues, not the game.
Number Two: BULL SHIT! This has nothing to do with the game itself and only a MORON would think it did. This was a mentally unstable person who took things to far. Sorry dude I have seen this in coop and pretty much every MMO out there. Welcome to the joys of playing with random people you do not know, this is just part of online gaming, sadly. But to say this is the fault of the game shows you might have a disconnect from reality like the idiot that showed to your door.
Number Three: So you have only played about 25% of the game and somehow this makes you able to predict the demise of it and it's failure to delivery at higher levels? Look if you do not like this game that is super, feel free to move on and find a game you do like and have fun. But do not presume to come into a forum with the most lame troll post I have ever seen and think you are some how significant to a real discussion.
BTW please share whatever it is you where smoking when you posted this and thought it was good idea for all of us to share.
BTW ILLINOIS here....

I have a soap box and I am not afraid to use it.
Wow I wish all people who hate me online will visit me and buy my car, heck I got some used socks, maybe there is someone interested in buying them, some are "holy" (have few little holes on them)
Serious OP you need to grab a hold of yourself, you are sounding like someone suffering from paranoia. My best advice visit a doctor.

Just because he's paranoid doesn't mean someone isn't out to get him.

I couldn't agree more. No game has failed as hard as ESO in the mmo history, at least in budget:success ratio, and add to that the IP, that is probably what sold most of the games. Definitely it was not the quality of the game itself. The worst 50 bucks I've spent in my entire lfe.
Too late to lament now, though, and I wish everyone just stopped flaming games they don't like. Leave the dead horse stay dead and move on.
I self identify as a monkey.
Number one. Some may say it's a choice, but I agree, I felt no compelling reason to group together with others. That being said, it was really my own decision. What it did do to force communication was remove the auction house and promote personal trading or guild trading. I don't think this was enough though.
Number Two. If you don't want people coming to your house, then stop telling people where you live. Your evidence is not overwhelming at all and has nothing to do with ESO. A recent case that made me laugh was one that SWAT was called on someone because they pissed someone off during Call of Duty. As far as obtaining your information through "illegal" means, I think that your hacker paranoia is high-larious. If someone was skilled enough to somehow obtain your information illegitimately, they'd have so many more interesting things they could do to benefit society, like deleting the game from your computer. In the end, it really boils down to a lesson that even my 7 year-old understands. Don't tell people who you are or what your address is and if I find out you did, you won't be allowed on the computer ever again.
Number Three: My suggestion would be to stop deleting your characters. Instead, click the Play button. I sometimes mix this up too so, if you're confused, I have a little rule I go by now. If I click Play and it asks me to confirm whether or not I want to play, I'm not actually playing, I'm deleting.

First, I dont agree with the OP.
Second, the biggest issue I had with ESO (otherwise a great game) was that the trinity system in the game was a complete fail. Imma Tank....I love to tank...when I can't tank, I dont want to play. It's a deal breaker.
The issue has been around since beta and has been requested to be fixed by so many posters on the ESO forums that I lost count, yet it's been ignored completely.
Can you tank in this game, yes...is it optimal, no.
FIGHT ME IRL BRO
oh, Michigan.
ESO is definitely not a failure a lot of people play and enjoy that game.
That seems to be the theme behind every post about a game failing. I'm not sure why like/dislike and fail/success is such a hard concept to grasp for some but...here we are and it obviously is.
Truth.
Usually, the lower DPS of a Tank is off-set by increased survivability. Like you should be able to faceroll 2 or 3 mobs. Not the case with ESO. In fact, the difficulty ramp with a tank is much greater because you can't simply stand there and absorb damage, you have to dodge and weave just like everyone else. You might be able to take some more hits than others, but you're also doing half the damage.

I live in San Diego, I am almost out of cigarettes, and low on coffee.
Oh and ESO didn't strike my fancy despite being an "Elder Scrolls" title...sort of....but not really.
Man I need more coffee....
