There is nothing to trust,no investment at all needed to try it out. There is no secret, they have very little money and imo have done an admirable job considering.

I like the game and have been playing it every chance i can except often tired from work :(.

NO LEVELS ...NO hand holding that is a great start right there.Lots of abilities to learn and the whole game needs to be discovered.Of course there are areas that can be improved,i could only imagine if they had a large budget like other developers,i am certain they could deliver an even better game.

The areas of concern are tweaking the lag between accessing coded areas. You might sometimes press auto target and your player runs in a totally opposite direction aimed at nothing lol and/or frame rates are not quite good enough..yet.

However all in all quite decent enough for such an Indie project and the design is exactly what i look for only missing the player to player mechanics of grouping as is combos are yet again soloed.

VG was a great game by a team with a decent amount fo money,Gorgon has until Kickstarter, literally no money so you can't compare the two.

Also Gorgon is being done by non stardom people, while VG was former SOE Everquest team.

When i look at this non budget and what they have done,i commend thee,if this was ANY other giant developer, they would never have gotten this far with no money.Give these guys 50 million+ and i would venture a guess at a Triple A product.

This game is the TRUE meaning of Indie trying to do good things on a limited budget.

Not to mention, this is how Kickstarters should work.  Have a game partially made, that players can log into and try and THEN ask for money.  More dev's should look at this and really take note, this is how you get funding for a game.

This is exactly correct,i agree 100%,show us a game ,we get to see the design idea and how it works, that is enough to decide if we like the direction.

Lets get this game funded and vote with our wallets!

If the Kickstarter does not get fully funded it will not be the end of Projct: Gorgon.

According the kickstarter page it will be. :****(  Maybe we can convince Eric to update it? *cough* mention it when he is on*cough*

The project has been in the works for a very long time by a small Dev group and this project for them is a work out of Love not out of corporate greed .  Eric has stated in, in game chat that if/when the Kickstarter fails they will post a way for people to directly fund the game through the Project: Gorgon web page.

From what I got he said that they cant have an other way of funding while on kickstarter. I truely hope they will have some kind of "donation" option if the ks fails but afaik he didnt confirm it. I'll ask him the next time we see him, I guess on saturday/sunday. If Im not on maybe someone can ask if a volentary "founder pack" or sub would be possible. I would like to keep the free to test option available because even if only 1 out of 10 free players reports a bug it is a good thing.

I think they want to get this project off the ground more than we do.  They want to create a game that is actually worth playing, does not hold your hand and one that they themselves would love to play in.

Personally, if they would start up a subscription service to their Alpha right now I''d jump in and start paying for it.  Project: Gorgon is currently in much better shape than a lot of other games were then they actually launched.  According to Eric we will be able to keep our characters at launch unless something unforeseen occurs so in a way we are playing the launched game already.

Be careful with statements like that. people will mistake them for "nothing will be added" or the gfx will be the same on release. We both know that this isnt true but still... people...

No offence intended. Love you Rat for contacting various sources to review the game and the free ig road of surveys to serb :D

Sadly it seems all the praise here, both from those on principle and those who have tried first hand, doesn't seem to be translating into much in the way of $$$'s for their kickstarter. Its sad, very sad. While I have pledged there, I wish I had the whole 100k. Honestly I wish I had a million to buy their company or whatever, give them free reign just with more resources, and let them make the game I have wanted to play since I stopped playing EQ/DAOC/UO etc 10+ years ago.

Shameless bump to keep the spotlight on this one, also: Vote on steam for Greenlight, they have commented on perhaps being able to fund through Steams early access if the Kickstarter fails. I do not get why this game is not getting the attention it deserves....

This game really has some great potential.  Love the system so far.

I would recommend people to try it out.  Its free too.

Oh i currently play this game just because of this video here. It takes a day or 2 to get used to and then its amazing fun! Figure out how to do things you will have a blast. If you played any UO, asherons call, everquest 1 you will love this game. Its very addicting to level skills up, currently the max is 50, crank your graphics settings to highest and it runs smoothly.

    haha presto!

I had some start-up problems at first but is all ok now and i needed to make sure i had the newest build, the updater does not update the build,i had to go to the site and d/l the new build

Remember it is free TOTALLY free to roam anywhere and try the game out.

I personally hope the game can get some major funding,.i have confidence these guys can pull it off with a real budget.Geesh i am already enjoying myself and it is not even near a finished product.

I like the other poster mentioning an Alpha sub fee,i think i could go easily for 5 bucks and i am sure many others as well.Hmm 1500 players x5 is 7500 bucks, better than nothing. The only problem i see there is once you start asking for money you tend to gets lots of crying and people expecting Triple A right away.

IMO since i am not playing anything at all aside from some Hearthstone, not even free games aside from Gorgon,it warrants a 5 bucks sub fee.

You can still play AC and AC2. Turbine sells you both games for 10 bucks for lifetime and both are f2p. I play both AC1 and AC2 now.

While it is true you can currently play AC and AC2 for 10 bucks, Turbine plans shutting down the servers around December. It is unclear what will happen after this.  There may be private servers but all this is unclear.

From what i'm hearing they are doing what the company that put out Neocron 2 did. It will run just under player control. So not really a shutdown. Neocron 2 is doing rather nicely now.

I tried it and like it, but the rather prepubescent obsession with childish swearing and sexual remarks and offenses is eye-roll-inducing and annoying. Like talking with a teenager/pre-teen who tries to test boundaries.

Played: Pretty much any fantasy MMO, some did not even make it to release ...
Favorites: UO, EQ2, Vanguard, Wurm Online, Salem, ESO, Creativerse
Playing: ESO, Creativerse, Guild Wars 2
Anticipating: (sigh) ... maybe Ashes of Creation

Characters will transfer to these new servers?  Or will you have to start all over.  My understanding is under private server control you are subject to the whims of the administrator. Will there be a sub?   I havent heard much details about how this will happen.

That's one of my very few issues with this game. The swearing and sexual remarks from the NPCs seem unnecessary and really detract from some otherwise interesting text/conversations.

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

I think you miss the point.

I don't care about the budget or whether or not the graphics (different from art design) are of the same level.

I'm talking about the general "thrust" of their development ideas.

Open world as opposed to small maps, dungeons that can be explored over instanced dungeons that you can't get into unless you are in a group or are on the same quest.

In any case I liked it. I don't like that I can't get my character back as I got a note that I didn't "save" it (not sure what that means) and when I logged in as the previous guest the character is not there but when I try to make the same character with the same name I can't because I get a message that the character already exists. And I can't seem to find a way to contact the developer.

I agree. I was sort of hoping this sort of thing would eventually get cleaned up in favor of more mature and interesting dialog. It doesn't really change the mechanics of the game, but it does affect the flavor of the game world.

I kind of thought it made things more realistic.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

I disagree completely. I think it positively impacts the game world. It gives it diversity. Not every single NPC swears or throws in sexual references or innuendos. Much like real life some do some don't. I don't find swearing juvenile, I find it part of everyday speech. Its descriptive, it invokes emotion. I'm almost 40, adding in a few curses here and there makes it more realistic. I don't know a single adult that doesn't curse, I've never known one that hasn't save maybe a priest/pastor. I suppose if you live sheltered in the bible belt or something I could see it being jarring, but the majority of people in the english speaking world use "those" words at least sometimes. I've lived in 7 different countries over my life, USA Australia and UK among them and as I said, every single one of them has cursed like the previous one.

I didnt even realize that!   So next time a cow approaches me and says "You want to milk me?"   I should take him seriously.

I've nothing against the use of profanity, however where it is and when it is in the game seems out of context, almost jarring at times. I'll just chalk it up to bad writing.

Agree with many of the above comments.  This game looks sweet but the kickstarter is mediocre at best and mediocre isnt good enough to get funded.  Getting your KS funded is really about 2 things, 1) presentation which this KS does a "meh" job on, and even more important than presentation 2) getting your KS to go viral early on.  This only getting traction with less than a week to go.

I do hope the devs re-do their kickstarter or do some alternative form of fundraising given I think they now have finally gotten the traction needed, but unfortunately there is just not enough time left for the KS.
