The queues are irrelevant, since almost every MMO had them at release. We will find out if AA lives up to the hype in a few weeks. Most MMOs are dead and in dire need for server merges by that point.
A sign of how desperate people have been for a real open world MMORPG instead of all of these terrible casual lobby multiplayer adventure games we've been having to deal with.
Archaeage may not be perfect, and I don't like Asian themed MMOs, but it's way better than the other crap out there.
Hopefully developers start to wake up.
Gotta tell you, I think they are doing the right thing by not launching more servers, games like this must have a massive population. In two months when the servers die down, we'll be glad they didn't launch tons of servers.

You do realize that nearly every single AAA themepark released in the last few years has had long server queues as well, right? I'm not sure the AA queues are a sign of anything other than people wanting to try a new game. It happens with nearly every new release these days, no matter the sub-category of MMO that we use to describe them.
I mean I understand a que but I have never seen a game where the que's have been this long considering the game came out on the 16th and people were already complaining about them on the 12th during headstart......
I played in Wow, Aion, Eq, Eq2, Swtor, wildstar, FFXIV plenty of others none were ever this long the longest I think I waited was two hours in Aion...... I mean I'm not trying to be a dick but how long do they think people are going to continue to try and login with these horrendous ques? My guild and my friends are on Ollo and every night it's the same thing 6 to 8 hours......
And i seen someone mention FFXIV in a earlier post and while it's true the login was bad that was because there was no que that was the problem (Well technically there was just it never worked properly) in that one it was tons of issues with datacenters and people staying logged in just like on Archage the que system never worked properly in FFXIV cause too many people were always hammering the servers...... Don't even get me started on the errors during ARR launch, error 90000 error 10102 etc...etc....
When you couple these posts on ques with the posts on 1 of 4 players being AFK then you see where the obvious issues are. Why not free the server resources by kicking the AFK and then rewarding rather than punishing people for not being logged on so their not trying to always be on the server? Simply modify the AA LP system to allow for offline to give X + 1 LPs rather than the X LPs for being online people will see you get more LP being offline (even if its minimally more) and then will log off. With those people off you then will have the actives only taking up the server resources and thus the ques problem will be diminished.

The queues are ridiculously long. But I'm not convinced that's a sign of people clamoring for something new, as much as it is people wanting to try a new game that they don't have to pay for, if that makes sense. It also shows Trion's unwillingness to open new servers like past games have done. If you recall, when they launched Rift, Trion opened up quite a few servers the first few days, then months later had to start closing them down. They were so against the idea of admitting that they over-shot their expectations for population/retention, that they came up with some lame BS excuse about using the closed servers as Public Test Servers, which of course was a lie.
I think they were bit by creating too many servers years ago, and now have gone the complete opposite route in being too prudent with opening new ones here--particularly for a game that thrives on heavy population.
If ArcheAge had real time action combat and better PvE, the game would be the best MMORPG for over a decade. However, as it stands, people will realise that the game is mostly crafting and PvP and, although it will probably get a stable player base of 3-400k, it will not have a big impact on the MMORPG scene.
I love sandbox RPGs but it is not enough. You need other aspects as well.
They are a sign that giving people incentives to stay AFK and allowing them to bypass the queue by sitting at character select means that nobody ever logs off so even though the servers are barely full everyone sits in a queue for no good reason. This game is nowhere near the success you seem to think it is.
The PvE is simply awful and the sandbox PvP most people haven't reached yet.

I do not understand the shameless pandering on behalf a badly launched game. Tell me what other product you buy that your are EXTREMELY disappointed with and you just take it on the chin anyway?
Its no wonder these companies don't ever get any better, the bar has been set low and the ridiculous amount of apologists help them keep it that way. Shame on you.

Every MMO in the last 10 years had queues......the only reason SWTOR (for example) had servers that ppl could login to (in addition to many with 4+ hour long queues), is because it launched with over 100 servers.....if AA launched with the server count of SWTOR, how much do you want to bet that not a single one of its servers would have a queue right now.
Companies may very take some ideas from ArcheAge but queues don't really mean a whole lot. Queues vanished as of yesterday. It only took a week for them to go away... so that can't be a sign. You also have to understand that the game didn't do well in South Korea or Russia. It went F2P in South in under 6 months and had a recent server merge from 25 servers down to 7. Russian servers, for the most part, are also vacant.
I participated in both the Korean and Russian open betas. I don't see how developers will "wake up" to this... at least not AAA studios.
I think the OP is completely wrong .This is not a sign of how desperate people have been for a real open world MMORPG at all. It is merely created by the small number of servers and the F2P combination. How could any other result be the outcome with those defining factors?
I think Trion have no wish to merge servers because of the land issue so they have unwittingly created this apparent popularity of a open world MMORPG. Whether they are comfortable with the state of limited availability thus causing an artificial appearance of popularity will depend on the balance of people waiting to play versus those who quit out of sheer frustration. Ask Apple how well limited availability only whets people's appetite and makes them want to wait irregardless of the stupidity of it. However is Archeage as popular I would venture to say no they are not so this strategy whether intended or not is risky.
And waiting 4 plus hours to get into a server is not going to go over well with many people. I predict that half of those attempting to log in today won't be playing one month from now. Better log in times for sure but the popularity factor also takes a hit.
Yep, I am one of those.. I can't adjust my living to play a game. Especially a game like ArcheAge where the leveling is like every other game on the market... In other words.. SHIET.
Hopefully if anything AAA developers will still think a sandbox is viable but look at Archeage at how NOT to handle it (with the possible exception of naval combat)
....not that I have much hope of that. The vast majority of Archeage's flaws are the same flaws that Ultima Online suffered from in regards to its sandbox at first. Ultima Online eventually realized and learned its lessons, but it doesn't seem like AA's developers were paying attention (either that or they didn't care).
I expected Queues. I am a Patron so I don't feel the squeeze for Labor as most do, but I think the game is well worth $15/mo to play. Do I need cash shop items? no. Have I bought, yes. Expansion for my warehouse and inventory.
I think the queues were a sign that the game has a good following to start, especially since the F2P people have had to wait up to 10 hours to login at the start! I do see it as a niche though, so I think the population will eventually fade quickly =(
This game doesn't have instanced housing/farming... so if you think there is a land shortage now, imagine the uproar should they decide to merge servers... especially when there is no way to accommodate the land owners when this happens.
The less servers the better. IMHO, they already have too many servers, someone is going to be on a dead server or someone is royally going to be screwed. The current rush of players is because it is new... once they hit 50 and realize that the real grind begins then, they will either leave in droves or stay. Odds are highly against the preponderance staying since it is a F2P game and they can come and go as they wish... except land owners... they are the only ones committed to staying.
No more queues as of today because players have left...in a couple of weeks it will be sub day what will happen then??? we shall see....here are my reasons for cancelling...
1..new players have to play severe catchup no incentive to start playing
2....labor points is dumb cant do anything without them
3...no land
4....horrible HORRIBLE quests exclamation marks everywhere...take his to her come back here is your cookie...now go back and tell her you talked too me.....here is your other cookie...literally the quests are like that.....
I stopped playing after i hit level 14/15. I put up with teh lag, i put up with the server problems, I just about put up with the bot farmers, goldsellers and cheaters. However not being able to do much without having a farm which requires a subscription was the final straw for me, yes there are public farms (that are extreamly limited on what you can plant and what livestock can be put there, and i mean limited). Which means crafting quests are a no no to you.
I decided that was the last bit, the nail in the coffin for me, before putting more time in (and getting more issue's) i decided sod it. Its by far the worst game Trion has released as it does say subscribe is the only real way to play this game. Its also a B2W as well, the more money you have and put into the game, undoubtedly the more powerful you will be.

Here is one tidbit we are forgetting about LAND....
1 player who pays 15.00 a month holds 20 PLOTS
20 players who pay 15.00 have no plots will be quitting....thats 300 dollars versus 15 dollars
who does TRIONS business decisions?? beats me......If you go to the official forums the number of
people that will not be resubbing due to land issues is pretty significant
get the math????
But here is the real kicker.....TRION sold 150 dollar starter packs that equals to 10 months of service
which leads me to believe that they knew the game was going to sour a lot of people (game failed in Russia and
Korea) so they tried to get most of there money up front...how many people bought those starter packs??? many
many of them
I couldnt have said it better myself. Notice the official website says NOTHING about limited land. Convenient marketing ploy.
