Originally posted by carpatian This is a joke.I looked on rating/hype for archeage and it shows 6.60. Well i think the game just released and is not yet the time to discuss this but... rly? This game is a jewel . For me i will not trust mmorpg rating system from now on.Full of bs
Blame the people who decided to rate it because they waited for a long time in the queue without actually playing the game.
I actually think that the queue issues has helped the game retain more people. When you can't have something, you want it even more. If not for the queue problems you'd probably see servers start to become thin around week 4...now it might take til week 6.
MMO's have to grab my attention quickly if I'm going to stick with them. This was true back when I 1st installed UO on my PC and it's true today.
The ones I tend to stick with are the ones that make me go "wow" in the first 30 minutes. The more "wow" moments I get the longer I'll probably play it. And when I say "wow!" I don't mean that pos from Blizzard, I'm talking those little things that make you think wow man that's cool.
I played a couple of the beta weekends for AA and I can't remember a single "wow", so my rating would be even lower than 6.6. The game just didn't grab me, it felt clunky, dated and generic. I'd give it a 5, it was so generic it just felt average so a 5 is all it deserves.
If you think it's a 9 more power to you. I hope you really enjoy playing it, but it's not going to be the same for everyone.
Well, that's one way of playing games. I tend to agree about this for my regular games but I know MMOs can be slow to pick up. I wonder how many wow moment people had when they played EQ. That game was boring as shit for a long time yet people are praising it as the best MMO ever.
But to be honest I did get a lot of wow moments in WoW WoW showed me that MMOs can be fun unlike that boring pos from Sony - EQ.
I loved UO but had too many technical issues at the time so I ultimately gave up on it.

I have a feeling a lot of the people saying this game isn't a 6.6 haven't played much. The game is downright boring. The combat awful. There will be no queues in a month. And there will be a ton of land available.

Damn, I have like only been playing every day since the 12 Sep but what do I know. How long have you spend in the game? Just want to compare to my playtime so that I have an understanding of what you meen by "not having played much".

I guess simply put some people include technical problems into the score while others score the game itself.
It's hard to know where to draw the line for rating something. ArcheAge is ultimately an MMO and for some people the ability to login smoothly / have problems resolved quickly / just a general smooth launch is an important part of the experience. Expectations are always set no matter who you are.
For others like myself they see these kind of queue issues as stumbling blocks that any popular mmo might experience no matter how big the company behind it is. For me these kinds of issues are not indicators of whether the gameplay itself is bad or not.
Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play?
This game feels like a multi-player campaign for me right now. Go here, do this, kill that.....I can't play this for more than a couple of hours without getting sleepy. It really does not help that I have no interest in building a house or crafting (which apparently is a big part of this game). I'm still playing in hopes that the sandbox part of this game lives up to it's name.

The game didn't do well in Korea, and it's dying in Russia. So yea... may be busy now, but in due time the population will drop as majority reaches "endgame". The game is pretty mediocre in my opinion.

That isn't an acceptable reasoning to the defenders of AA. 2 major global regions must have just played it wrong.
The main issue is that 6.6 rating doesn't take into account the end-game yet due to how young the gmae is and is probably filled with ratings from people who never actually played the game (a lot) and are just mad at the queues. Well, that and the beginning of the game feels like a really lame theme park MMO.
To fully realize the pros and cons of this game, you need to play it for a long time alongside other players doing the same (since it's a very... interactive-with-other-players game). Only then will the awesome theme park aspects and the horrible end-game (...and horrible end-game theme park) aspects start to surface.
....hilariously enough a more accurate authentic rating might average out to a 6.6 in the end anyways, but for entirely different reasons.
Do you need a game to be "the thing" in order for you to play it? Are you making sure you are playing the coolest game around so u can gather some sense of belonging?
Ìf you like it, play. If you don't like it, don't play it.
Based upon the mix reviews from players I have heard regarding this game, the rating sounds about right. I do understand how many people can feel differently. There are games I also don't agree with in terms of their ratings.
That 6.6 rating isn't BS. It means that of the people who frequent MMORPG.com and who have rated the game, the average rating is 6.6.
The BS part is expecting the opinions of all those people to always reflect your opinions.
Thats the problem its people that frequent this website.
OP is right, its way better than a 6.6. I paid my 150 and am not happy with the launch....but the game is still really good.
People on this site are so jaded an unable to give an unbiased look at anything since they feel the need to compare everything to UO, SWG, AC, DAOC. The 6.6 is utter BS.
The problem is expecting that the opinions of people who aren't you will accurately reflect your own opinions. Take two people and ask them to rate AA. One scores it a 2 and the other scores it a 9. The 'rating' for the game is now a 5.5. That doesn't mean everyone who plays the game from this point forward will say it's a 5.5. It means that some people like it and some people don't.
I look at game ratings more as a percentage of the population that likes a game. A 6.6 means that better than half the people who play the game like it, not that the game is totally mediocre. The higher the score, the higher the percentage of the population that likes the game. This isn't much different than using a game's sales to determine whether or not it is a good game. It's not so great for determining whether or not you like a game unless your tastes tend towards mass market tastes. i.e. If you like popular things, you should play games with high scores. If, on the other hand, you aren't moving with popular opinion your only option really is to try the game to see if you like it.
Even in those two cases it's kind of a cr@p shoot. I'm a person who moves with popular opinion. The popular song on Youtube right now and the popular movie at the box office right now (both within specific categories) are good bets for me. Same thing with video games. A popular video game within the RPG category is a good bet for me. It's not absolute though. I didn't really like Assassin's Creed, which is a popular game. There's nothing wrong with the game, but I don't like a big chunk of the game play.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
The rate is based on the opinion of 77 people. A user rating is allways correct, no need to discuss that imo.
Some ppl vote with real opinion after try the game, others vote based on some strange hate whithout even touch the game, others vote because is cool to vote, theres even people arouind that vote 0 just for be Korean, doenst matter, its not AA exclusive, hapened in any game.
Befor reach around 500 votes at least, doesnt represent nothing even in mmorpg.com universe. AA had around 1.600 votes befor launch, that is something, 77 is nothing. I allready see games on top 3 with only 56 votes, lol.
Anyway, with this launch provoking so many rage im surprise is above 5.0
Personally I'm suprised that "sound" got such a high rating. I had to mute the ingame sounds, especially the character sounds are so goddamn stereotypically awful that my ears started bleeding. KYAAAAH HUUAAARGH.
Ignore this site's rating system. According to this site GW2 is the best MMO on the market, lulz. Here is what happened, a bunch of people while waiting in the obnoxiously long queues logged into MMORPG and gave crappy ratings.
The game itself is one of the best I have played in years... however trion dropped the ball with their launch and it hurt their ratings.

GW2 user rating is based in 1227 votes so that means something whatever we agree or not.
Imo is a good game, just fail to me as a mmorpg because is not what im looking for. But i admit is a very high quality produt imo.

When paying customers are "treated" worse than F2P players in a F2P game you get that rating.
Edit:
Grammar
Que times show intreste in the game and the flip is? Yeah they have no handle on there game. The support is so awful.
I really feel for those that got sucked in to the "founder". Man that should always be your 1st clue NOT to give anything.
If you like it great.. me gonna pass. When people can say anything and nothing gets done.. pass.
Except they aren't.
They still get their patron status gifts. They still get to skip the majority of the queues. They still get their increased labor point regeneration.
They are being treated better than the F2P players in that they are being treated the same way they would be if the game didn't have any glitches.

One check of the games official forums refutes your claim.
