Yea that sounds a little "off"...maybe in person it's different. I think Blizzard were right in scrapping it too.
A future world of warcraft 2 would sell like hot cakes though
For the amount of money they could get out of this, i think it's impossible they will miss the opportunity,
just like good movies, you get a part 2, part 3....you gotta keep milking dat cash cow.
World of warcraft has become a brand name, lets not forget that.
It will probably happen one day, I would try this game 100% just too see the Warcraft world, races...and hear that epic Blizzard music again.
I think a few people have already said it, but. Titan/WoW 2 would put them in direct competition with itself ( WoW vs Titan). Which, from a financial perspective doesn't seem too bad. However, this WILL split the game's population, thereby making each game's population decay even faster (Less ppl playing = less potential players). They can continue to support WoW for quite a while and will be able to for several more years.
wait and watch what will happen after that so called big expansion Warlords of Draenor, then you can say if they are focusing on WOW or just pulling the trigger
Well they worked on something for 7 years and decided to can it because they thought it wasn't fun. How do you work on something for that long and then all of a sudden you wake up and realize the game isn't fun ? Sorry but my super duper common sense is telling me this is a load of nonsense what they are telling the public.
It could be the most fun ever - but if they couldn't see a way to make it work financially then it would be canned. If the reports of 70% of the 100 or whatever staff being reassigned were accurate then that would have left a small-ish team of 30.
To me this suggests a financial assessment. How much would it cost by going over stuff like: work content; staff needed; length of time to develop. How many copies might it sell - and various business models e.g. subscription; b2p; f2p. And the risks / sensitivities.

Any chance Blizzard will buy the Star Wars Galaxies name, partner with Disney. Modernize SWG put their spin on the game, add content to it and bring SWG 2 with a Pre CU into the MMO world? That would be a cheap easy win for Blizzard and it wouldnt be hard to get people to play. And it would be profitable.
Why does this warrant blizzard bashing? It takes guts to can a project - Titan obviously wasn't living up there expectations and they canned it - just like they did to SC:Ghost years back. Alot of companies can learn from this, if your game is shit: DON'T RELEASE IT!
WoW is Blizzards ticket to longevity - its never going to die, sure it won't grow anymore, but it will forever be the king MMO that racks in the most money. Game companies are finally realizing (after us players have been screaming for 10+ years now) you can't.fookin.take.down.WoW. Period. Stop trying to make a game to kill WoW. I enjoy undercutting people in the market place - it's the only PvP a crafter gets.
You have to give kudos to SOE for recognizing earlier that the orginal EQ Next project wasn't going to work for them, as it was too much like the current crop of MMORPGs.
When will players and journos wake up to the fact that the MMO genre is facing huge difficulties? It has changed gameplay so much to get as many players as possible that the players just leave after a month. No group of players is given what they want, content locusts are pandered to and MMos have become solo games.
So why should investors have confidence in MMOs and MMO like games? Triple AAA makes no difference, they never stay. So unless you are sure of recouping your money with sales, why risk it? And with the addict like dependency of players on F2P why buy it?
MMO's are boxed into a corner and there is no referee to call a time out.
