NOT READY FOR BETA

morg2625morg2625 Member UncommonPosts: 32

I'm sorry to say this game is just not up to the standards of Flight simulators or MMOs. It's clunky, has poor graphics has almost nothing useful in the tutorials and is generally a poorly designed game.  Simple things like moving between menus and  activating options are not explained at all.

THIS GAME NEEDS A LOT OF WORK , BUT IT"S A GOOD CONCEPT.

wait for release don't make the mistake I did and shell out  $75 for an early beta package.

I think you must be playing a different game that everyone else. There is a manual you can download that shows you what all the menus and controls do (http://elite.frontier.co.uk/downloads/Sidewinder_Owners_Manual_WIP.pdf).

If you were expecting anything else in an early beta of an indie title you clearly had incorrect expectations.

People who enjoy games at this stage are probably not too concerned with tutorials or explanations either.

The graphics are pretty amazing, so not sure what you are smoking here.

I guess you could just be a troll..."

Sorry it's my opinion. You don't like it,  too bad.  I think games should have tutorials and directions.  IN THE GAME. not on some web site.  As far has graphics, try playing EVE Online and then tell me the graphics are incredible.

This is a small game and it doesn't offer a lot and IMO it's not ready for BETA.

And just because you don't agree with someone is no reason to call them a Troll.

This is the problem with today's early access culture, people pay MORE money for incomplete pre-beta game than they would for a retail release. It's a conflicting concept, paying more feels like you should get more, but you get SIGNIFICANTLY less in these deals, a half working incomplete test version of a will-be-a-game-one-day-in-soonTM-future.

Yes, I can see your point.  It's easy to expect more when you've already payed. Thanks for the well thought out post.

I don't know what game you playing but , having said that, maybe this will be a growing opportunity for you: you learned what BETA really means and next time you won't do something as silly

    BTW, BETA 2 notes here:

I can only laugh at someone who can't figure out to navigate a menu. You don't even need a manual, everything is there in OPTIONS > CONTROLS

In fact, there is a full subsection inside Controls for navigation called INTERFACE MODE.

And it's not limited to this. There are huge tooltips besides every option in Options. Look at the tooltip below. This is the one which clearly shows you how to go into menu navigation mode followed by the full list of controls used for navigating the Interface.

The game is very polished for a Beta and if the game looks poor for you, then it's your PC's fault because it looks amazing on mine. You sound like someone who couldn't navigate out of the station and then decided to jump on the forums without even trying to google such a basic common sense problem.

Sorry, couldn't disagree more.  For an unfinished product I found beta 1 remarkably solid.  Tons of stuff missing, content wise, and their net code needed work but pretty good considering.

Tutorials are usually the last thing they put in games, simply because systems change, content changes, mechanics change, etc.  Why put something in the game you are going to have to do over for every iteration while developing? Just to spare  4 seconds for a TESTER to Alt+Tab/google.  Which isn't even necessary btw, just hit escape and look in the keybindings and everything is right there in front of your face.  I had my flight stick and Voice Attack set up for it in 10 mins.

I don't really understand the clunky comment either.  The ships fly beautifully.  Although I've never tried it with a kb/mouse setup. Maybe that's your issue.  Try it with a gamepad or something.

Yeah apparently it works very well with a xbox controller. Though hard to beat a HOTAS setup ;)

I even bought on ebay a cheap EDTracker sensor to make it even more 'realistic'

  • It's definitely ready for Beta. Ready for release? No. Moral of the story? Don't buy games that are still under heavy development (like Beta versions) unless you want to help the developers test their product. I'm psyched for this game but I don't want to Beta test. My solution? Standard preorder.

I'm sorry, "it's not ready for BETA"? You mean YOUR not ready for BETA. The issues you've listed are baseless, mostly because it IS BETA. Welcome to the land of game testing, where suckers pay to test games.

Beta testing but doesn't know how to work menus? Spending resource on menus rather than the remaining features - in beta?! paying for a beta in any case is a fools game isn't it.

Being constructive OP If you had to list the next 5 features that they should work on what would they be?

Just recently bought $75 package. Seems fairly polished for a Beta to me. Oh boy was it exciting to successfully dock the firts time after several failed attempts.
