I've played off and on for years.  I would like a pve or rpg version of the game.  I loved the graphics and the missions.  Don't like taking months to get some skills and the travel can be boring.

"what kills eve online for you", for me: skill train by time.

eve players wont understand that, but it matters really. "you can play with T1 ship" argument is pointless. it feels very restricted. this is one of the negative uniqe feature of this game.

The mining. Lots. Of. Mining. So. Much. Mining.

But other than that EVE is a pretty cool game.

I could get past the shitty UI and unrealistic physics engine as well as the boring PvE and assymetric PvP. However, what I could not get over, is that in this game you can buy pretty much everything by real money. Do that PLEX to ISK trade and with ISK you can buy everything from a ship module to a high skilled character. That is for me the definition of Pay to Win and I want no part of it.

@ other EVE players in this thread

Are you also experiencing that most corps insist you have two or more active accounts?

    Absolutely not

I've joined many corps over the past 7 years since I first played EVE, and most recently joined two on my newly created character, and I have never been asked how many active accounts I have prior to joining.

I've actually never heard anyone say this before.

Well a ton of things are !@#!$! in EVE now.....Played just short of 8 years sold everything and quit....Why?....

It's simple the learning curve is almost gone, they make shit to easy and crap that should be easy gets nerf bat from hell. They have isk printing in the game along with a total screw up of plex getting out of control and totally f-ing the econ. Blob politics is another great F-up. The controls have always been a pain but they can be over looked.

At the end of the day its more about internet bully's then internet space ships now so most "real" players quit.

You can't try to make a noble argument and put someone down at the same time, its hypocritcal and pretty much makes you look like an ass while trying to say other people are asses. You're an ass too, deal with it?

Longtime EVE veteran here.. EVE is the greatest MMORPG of all time IMO, and ive played many different titles

please look at all the recent new games coming out, instance based dungeons, quest lines that keep you restricted to certain regions, gear and items that one must eventually spend real money to obtain.. theyre all the same.

    4 quick points

EVE is unique, there is no other MMO like it, it sets bars and standards within the gaming world as a whole.

EVE is hardcore, its not a family friendly childs game,  it doesnt pretend to be.

EVE is true open world sandbox, many games claim open world pvp but fail to deliver time and time again.

EVE is F2P, but you have to work for it, how many sub based games allow you to pay your sub with in game coin?

    Short summary

New Eden is driven by players, Its economy, industry, everything.  The outer lying regions known as Null-Security are also player controlled,  while its true the Null regions are held by a small handful of alliances, it is because of players and their actions that this is so.  EVE (or CCP) did not make it this way, the player community as a whole drive and create this world. you must understand this in order to appreciate this game, it truly is a sandbox, it truly delivers freedom and open world.
