I am a 20 year old male who loves to play MMORPG's - mainly for the heck of chatting with random people. After a few years I got into the habit of willingly adding people to Facebook. Yes, I know that's a bit of a mistake and it allows them to view some rather private information, pictures, etc. Well, couple girls are insisting they think I'm some kind of online cat fisher. You know, people with fake profiles, fake pictures, that lure people into falling in love with them either because they're insecure, or just want to troll people and be complete assholes. This is not my intention whatsoever, and I'm feeling a little irritated right now, and thinking about privatizing all my real life photos/information to a specific list of only the people I know in real life. I realize this would make me more suspicious, but I don't actually feel comfortable with random people off in some other country looking through my personal stuff. I'd privatize it all to prevent these kinds of situations in the future. You feel what I mean?
What is your opinion on adding gaming friends onto your real Facebook? Do you think it's okay, or is it dangerous? A lot of the people I have added actually have gaming profiles where it's all based on their game character. Nothing related to their real lives. This makes me feel even more uncomfortable; like I am exposing myself completely to everyone. I don't want to come off as suspicious and lose friends though... This feels like more of a rant than a legit post but I'm really bugged on what to do. Who knows maybe I'm even over-reacting to all of this. I feel no need to "prove" myself to strangers. Or are they strangers? I chat with people in game a lot - but what else do I know about them? What country their from, their age - that's about it. Strangers? I don't know

Are these girls already added? In any case, just tell them to kiss your ass. I wouldn't and don't personally add other players im unfamiliar with to FB and stuff, but wouldn't it be out by now if you have all these romantic relationships with all of those people?

I try to avoid facebook now since they have begun a policy where you are forced to use your real name. Twitter doesn't do this and I use my nickname instead of my real name, so my friends know who I am, but anyone else doesn't.
I think it's important to be careful online, especially now that many people try to steal your details of credit cards or try to make money from personal data.
my best advice is to be careful
I invited many people I did not know from mmorpgs into my facebook world. It eventually led to a guy stalking me on campus back in 2011. All in all, it wasn't as "dangerous" as it could have been but at the time, it really scared the crap out of me. I deleted many things online to try to minimize my presence. I even deleted my account here (he was following me here too...that's how he found out where I lived). Not MMORPG.com fault...it was mine.
Just cover your tracks well, please don't post crazy pics and remember: if it's on the internet....it's there forever.
And keep your facebook private! I've lost count how many people don't do that and their world is wide open
