The land issue is just like real estate in RL, [location, location, location]. Land everyone wanted [good views, close to services] was snatched up by speculators. Then most, if not all, of the remaining land Trion and XLGames designated for development was quickly bought up.
However, anyone who thinks land shortages weren't a designed mechanism, acting as a gold-sink in Archeage's economy, doesn't understand game-world economic models very well. If Trion or XLGames had any desire to address this issue they could "fix" it in the next patch. But, because this is a gold-sink, most likely you won't see any changes, and land availability will most likely improve when people become "land-poor", ie. can't pay their taxes. Or, it could mirror real life, and .01 of 1% of the Archeage community could end up owning 50% or more of the in-game assets. [Visions of land barons renting out housing and farmland to us serfs keep running through my head].
Here's the reason I said Trion and XLGames won't be addressing land shortages anytime soon. Vast areas of less desirable land are just sitting in the game empty [NW White Arden is especially empty]. In fact, after doing some exploring in each < lvl 40 PvE zones on Nuia, I would estimate 1/4 to 1/3 of land which could be developed is empty, and not zoned for anything. Even if they do decide to open up more land, it would be like living in a real life rural area anywhere. Large tracts of land are available, but the farther out they are, the greater pain-in-the-ass it becomes to transport packs of building materials to build your house, farm, etc.; or to have access to agricultural merchants, a mailbox, and a warehouse manager. Climb a hill and fly over NW White Arden and you'll see what I mean.
About your last remark to look at nw white arden wanna know why it aint occupied?
You can only build mansions there and people want small/farm houses instead.
This is spot-on. One of the reasons I have not been more actively engaged in the game is the negative experience with the bots, spam, etc. The long queues were a big turn off for me too. While you have to expect some of this, it does appear Trion and XL games did not anticipate the level of attacks and disruption. At this stage of the MMO game, that's a miss.
The game certainly has merit and can be a lot of fun to play. Here's hoping they can do a better job addressing the shortcomings which will attract some of the players like me who are still on the sidelines and retain some of their core player base long term.
Oh and by the way, I'm always in the "hope it works out" camp these days. The more MMOs that fail, the harder it will be to find companies looking to take a chance on innovation. I don't want my hobby relegated to the cookie cutter free to play offerings like some of what one sees from say, Perfect World or others in that space.
Reason why so many quit end game gear grinding of epic proportions takes months to get 1 item you want.
Crafting too many items needed to make low end stuff i spent 4 days collecting mushrooms to make healing potions then ginsing by time i was done i have enough to a small amount of potions it's not fun it's work.
Labor points opening coin purses why is it still there? labor point system limits too much i look for stuff to buy on market there is nothing there gear loot at 20-39 is too rare can't buy anything worth using.
PvP what pvp i get killed more by my own faction than anything else also my chars are mid 30's spend more time dying to lvl 50 gankers this is PvP??????????
There is no system in place to prevent top players ganking low level players at least in guild wars 2 or star wars the old republic your level is boosted to match top end players.
This game has too much latency and no skill que system person with best internet connection will win 1v1 pvp battles.
Hype too much hype this game is bad compared to any of the other games out there not even close to swg tried to get 5 friends to play this game they didn't play more than a week before quitting "they said it's not fun".

Wildstar white knights had that very same sentiment to all "hardcore" criticism....look how that turned out...
I know right? The "tough guy gamer" attitude just smacks of "I'm better than you"
its that attitude that will bite AA in the butt.
Wildstar had its share of problems, but from.what I am reading Archeage has even more. Have you looked at their forums lately?
Have you looked at ANY game forum lately?
This crap is just business as usual with the MMO crowd.
Yep I go to quite a few and I can say without a doubt that Archeage forums are rather unique.
Wildstar's problems are different from Archeage's in many ways. Wildstar's problems are the type that just make someone just get tired and leave without too much of a fuss (the general tone of the "hate" posts about Wildstar are really more dissappointment and SADNESS than anything). Archeage's problems instead make someone gnash their teeth in anger and rage due to the competitive nature of the game.
Quick example:
Long qeues that screw you out of a chance for a good location/spot for land? ANGER.
Reached end game and find there isn't anything to do? Sadness.
Honestly, when it comes to which is worse for the financial success of a game, I'd say Wildstar had it worse, really. Angry people tend to stick with the MMO longer than sad people do in my experience.
The number one problem this game has is server imbalance... once the numbers are skewed too far in one direction, there can be no meaningful PVP whatsoever. On my server, the West outnumbers the East by a landslide. Any zone that is contested is easily overrun by the West due to sheer numbers. I kid you not, you show up to Hasla and if there aren't 100 or more of the West and only 5 from the East, it is considered a miracle. This imbalance spreads to Halcyon and in any zone that is level 4 and above. Heaven help you if you choose the wrong faction... those on the skewed side have a cake walk existence by comparison. What happens? Players either start killing their own faction because it the only players they can face with reasonable numbers or they switch to the other faction... further making the situation worse. And since there is no way to balance the servers, the death of the game is inevitable.
Remember, you can have any number of accounts, so while the numbers seem balanced on paper, in actual game play, they are horribly way off. There is absolutely no way to balance a game like this. None.

Well, at least you don't doubt your own opinion. Congrats.
IMO, GW2 and ESO forums are far worse. And don't get me started on WoW forums.
Really? Did you look at the Archeage forums yesterday? There were a ton of gold spamming threads in the general forum and rumored threads of porn as well.

Umm, you forgot a few of the complaints there...
1) Racism in chat
2) Griefing
3) Bots bots bots
4) Hackers and lack of hacker preventive measures
5) Buggy game for many (including myself, game will not launch in my environment)
6) Cash shop complaints of P2W
I dont recall a lot of that being there for Wildstar.
Fastest failing game in recent history... I can see the servers coming down in less than 6 months. According to the community manager: "the game mechanics are working as intended"
Well with that said, I am done with AA... and I was a trailblazer with over 60 days of patron left and I am saying good bye to this bot supporting dev group and Trion has gotten my very last dollar!

Judging from their forums and the lack of response to even my ticket, I'm leaning towards your theory.

There's even a thread on the first page of General Discussion talking about this: http://forums.archeagegame.com/showthread.php?85908-Porn-in-the-forums!
Maybe I'm just lucky but I havent seen that sort of disarray in GW2 or ESO forums.

Humans have an amazing power: They can choose to ignore posts and not click on links. Shocking. I know.
Well, some humans do...
Personally, I'd rather deal with the kind of noise you describe in the Archeage forums than the constant hate-mongering here.
