Hello
i registerd me here because well, it was the first that google told me on the topic mmorpg. I dont play myself and dont know very much of it besides the normal sterotypes. But cause i dont want to belive them i just thought why not ask the gamers themself.
My girlfriend is playing mmorpgs. She started them about a year ago, before she only played offline games specialy final fantasy and then she testet the online version. Half a year ago she searched herself a group of players and is playing 3 times a week a few hours with them. It was absolutly ok for me, everyone need his time for his activities.
But in the last 3 months she started to make longer and longer and sometimes 4-5 evenings a week. And there is allways the same guy who stays with her till middle in the night, while the other ones are gone and talks much with him. I asked her about it but she meant it is allways gaming talk and talk about how "stupid the other group members are".
I have to admit that i am a little bit of jealous, its not that i dont trust her, but i simply have no idea what in this channels is talked about and what 2 persons she and that guy can talk 4-5 hours allone and allways "only about the game".
So i only wanted to ask a community of gamers to answer my question what is talked in that teamspeak servers in that online rpgs, because i want a honest answer and not that sterotype idea of every one there is a men who flirt and make sexuall alussions as soon as a woman voice sounds in his headsets.
Thank you for your attention

My limited experience is that women are treated with mostly the same respect as men do. There will always be individuals who cross the line. If you're in a good guild other members or the leadership should assist any member regardless of gender with questionable behavior from others. If the leadership is mature the guild is mature. If the leadership is not then the guild won't last long. With that said just talking all evening is not what I would call questionable behavior.
You will have to ask your girlfriend the questions you want answered and you will have to decide if those answers are valid and trustworthy. We can't tell you that.
People who are actively playing the game, even if it isn't an mmorpg, can actually spend hours and hours and hours talking only about the game. I am a little bit more familiar with Ventrilo, I doubt teamspeak is much different, but as far as I know a channel that the guild talks in is an open/public space for the guild. It's really fucking stupid to try and carry on an affair through something like that, because I also believe that all conversations can be/are recorded.
For what its worth it sounds to me like she might be getting heavily invested in the game which can be its own problem if you really don't share that hobby at all.

my experiences has been same. Just equal respect all around...most guilds are pretty mature.
Hey Grunty! It's been awhile!

Hiya, still here. Drop in, drop out, but be well. Off-topic is...
quiet. Especially since Rikimaru moved on about the time you did.
Teamspeak environments greatly vary so there is no one answer to this. In my time with online gaming I have have seen the worst of the worst ( death threats) to great communities where everyone treats everyone with respect. As a female gamer, I tend to avoid public channels that are not moderated as much because you do frequently experience an extreme level of sexual comments ( aka " titties or GTFO, " I am fapping to your voice" , " I wonder how you would sound with a dick in your mouth" ect..) In those channels as well as people generally being disrespectful. Yes, males and female are generally treated different in teamspeak, just as they are often treated different in games. It is a matter of finding a good community to hang with where that isn't tolerated as much and not expect to be able to just come in anywhere and not be harassed. Hopefully one day it will happen less than it does currently, but do not give up on finding a good community due to some being more hostile than others. There are plenty of good communities out there as well.
EDIT: Yes, Teamspeak or another voice program is required pretty much by most guilds to be able to raid or pvp in most games. To be competitive, you need to be able to voice. You cannot even participate in many game activities without a voice program, so in many circumstances, you might as well not even play the game if you are trying to play without it. You can talk for hours raiding or pvp about the game as well. Have you tried playing with her? Are you guys in the same guild and talk together and share friends? Many couples play together, and that is far more common than uncommon these days.
On the issue of what happens/ doesn't happen in TS. Well, a friend of mine on one of the games I play had his wife of 8 years leave him for a guy she " had just been speaking with on TS" from his own guild they were in together, and the guy now lives in his house. Now of course, this is not saying that is the situation in your house, but yes this actually does happen as well.
Muh eyez!!
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
Eewww! Someone who lives where the east peters out.
Yea this forum has been devoid of my eye bleeding text since they nerfed the R&P section XD!
