So I saw this post the AA forums,
and its really quite a letdown. I was hoping Auroria would be something similar to eve's 0.0 but it appears that isn't the case. There are only 4 guilds can have a castle PER SERVER. Which means the 3rd continent wont be about trying to take the whole thing over with your alliance. It will be about trying to get a castle and holding on to it for as long as possible until another guild takes it from you.
What a letdown, I was hoping for 0.0 in a fantasy setting, but as one poster put it, turns the game into a glorified king of the hill game rather than territory control.
Heck, even Perfect world had more conquerable territory than this (think around 20-40 zones)
Post below was taken from the thread in my link:
WOW.
Holy shit.
Is this guy right? So you're saying in the northern continent there can only be 4 guilds out of the whole SERVER that can create a base? I hope I'm just missing something here. If not, this is a MAJOR MAJOR letdown. I wanted an open world pvp game with alliances, backstabbing, espionage, and politics. I was hoping for something like this:
You're telling me its gonna be this?
Again, i'm hoping I'm just missing something here, I reall hope the territory wars in Archeage aren't that dumbed down.
Comments
Remember two things about this game:
1) The entire game was designed around the concept to monetize Korean players paying for internet per hour in an internet cafe; and
2) They decided this business model did not need be changed even the slightest bit for a western players which is why it sucks so bad.
Think about it, if there is a limit to only 4 guilds having castles, then the only way to overcome that is to stay online all the time with your friends, racking up the per hour costs at your local internet cafe, in order to try and beat them. And the guys who have the castles then need to spend all day online trying to defend them. Versus if they had more territory, you would be happy to claim one, play a little, and then log, which would not keep racking up the bills for metered internet access and defeat the purpose of monetizing this game in Korea.
Along with labor points and many other ridiculous concepts, this game is the perfect example of what happens when you try to force a foreign business model onto a culture where it does not apply at all. It's like the old story about the Chevy Nova when they tried to sell it in South America. They didnt bother to change the name and surprise, it was complete dude. Probably because "no va" means "no go" in Spanish. Someone failed to even do the most basic of localization research. Same here with XL games and trion.
Well, lets' see.
The game was made by the same person who made Lineage 2.'
In Lineage 2 there were a finite amount of castles and one clan per castle as far as ownership.
Seems to be similar but with less castles.
In addition, you are upset because the game is like an earlier game created by this developer and not like a completely different game. And on top of that, in no way did they ever say that the game mechanics was anything close to eve.
In any case I say "good". I loved Lineage 2.
And if you want to take over the continent then form an alliance and take over all the castles.

How would keeping everything the same but adding 10-20 more clan controlled zones or splitting up the current zones and making them more numerous make it a completely different game?
Or, it could be as simple as the fact that the game is over 2 years old and they felt that there only needed to be one version of the game, sans language localization changes. The game itself is very much so the same game in Korea, only localized (language) and a few patches behind.
There is no need to create a different version of the game for different markets. That would be like making EVE a purely PVE game because the Croatians prefer PVE over PVP. Not gonna happen for the simple fact that it's a MAJOR overhaul, not a minor tweak.
Common sense people.
The whole point is to have castle sieges... it would be like a battleground with 400 objectives if you added too many targets.
same..i loved L2 early on but not so much after they revamped it ..AA is ok for what it is
this community attacks EVERY game that is near release or that just had been released..iv made it a point just to stop in time to time now because of all the negativity for EVERY game no matter what it is or has done its like they have some hidden agenda or something against mmorpg's or hates everything because its not what " i " want in a game ..so it must suck and be really bad
What's this post have to with trying to get enough resources to build a castle ?
You realize that even a 700-800 man guild is going to be hard pressed to build and hold a castle right ?
I self identify as a monkey.
Thank you.
So, @OP: game is more like Lineage 2 and not like EVE.

Jake Song made Lineage 1, not lineage 2.
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile
Broken- don't think so.
'Bad' - very subjective.
Perhaps a little too complicated ..for the Simon say's crowd , lots of very subject "Bad" comments are the reflections of folks frustration at not being led by the hand to the next dungeon run
I was trying sooo hard to get my 15.00 worth that I spent on this game 10 days ago but I just can't stomach playing another day.
My sub expires 10/28 atleast that what it says in RED in the top left corner of my launcher...but I just can't do it.
so I lost 15.00 atleast I didn't lose 150 like some people did.
Another one bites the dust lets see how many popular AAA MMO titles are failing right now
ESO
Wildstar
Archeage
Is their any hope for the MMO genre?
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar
Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D
You can lead a horse to water ..but you can't make them drink . People who expected to play a sandbox are playing a sandbox , the problem is the great forum warriors just jumped on the bandwagon ...nobody is led by the hand unless they want to be and if you want to jump from quest hub to quest hub you can .
Archeage is a sandPARK, not box. Even Trion themselves refer to it as a Sandpark in interviews. Trion's marketting refers to it as a sandbox, but that's marketting for ya.
That said, way too early to say it's failing. If anything, I imagine it pulled a profit already off of Founders Packs. Furthermore, if Trion plays their cards right, they could still make even more money from it even if it does "fail" in a lifespan sense. It's called Whaling, and the idea is to purposefully suck up the fact that your game's lifespan will be cut short as long as you make as much money from it as possible (this is the actual business model of some F2P games. A business company, R2Games, said as such in a presentation to shareholders that you can find online).
Archeage only has minor whaling aspects (relatively speaking) compared to other dedicated whaling games (Trion, guys, you're doing it wrong!) but I've already seen indications that they've hooked a couple (and again. $150 founders packs).
Whaling games, despite the company not caring about their life span, can still last a long time anyways and thus "not fail" if that's your metric.
At any rate, it's too early to tell with Archeage. It's even too early to tell if AA plans on going the whaling route (right now, it's not so bad. But Atlantica Online and several other F2P MMOs wasn't so bad either at first....). Honestly if I were Trion, though, the whaling route makes the best sense when you look at AA itself (highly competitive PvP games are like the BEST things to whale with if you're looking for big profits. Heck, look at the huge amount of people who brought founders' packs so they could compete in the land grab) and what's going on with AA in other regions (AA isn't doing so well in other regions and Trion can't change the direction because XLGames is the developer, so might as well milk that money before getting to that point. Well, that's what I'd think if I were a Trion business executive)
Lots of people who defend AA from a "Oh, you won't get ganked. You can live your life just fine without PvP and best-in-slot equipment or whatever" don't realize how competitive it gets. Of course it isn't competitive NOW (besides the land grab, obviously) because everyone ELSE is still levelling up too, among other things. But once people are done for the most part, (besides getting the best equipment, where it's also competitive at the higher levels in its own way), Archeage's true end game of PvP opens up. As well as people who used to spend their time levelling now can spend their time PvPing, which means more gank fests for those who are lower on the ladder.
(really, this isn't even just a theory. AA has been out for 2 years in other regions and there's no reason it won't change, here)
I myself didn't do much research into castles but 4 territories that can be taken while you're offline to the point where even a 700 man guild would have trouble holding onto them sounds hilariously competitive in a crammed way. It's like, tons of people fighting for four loaves of bread on the table...
Boy your dense. Now Ill quickly apologize to you. Reread the post and try to figure out how the problem of resources ties into what he's talking about.
Sorry to burst your buble sir.
But 1 person dont make games anymore. its called a team. in lineage 2 its called Team Bloodlust.
And that actualy made Blade & Soul.
And not this game.
And kind sir Jake Song (your hero) created Lineage not Lineage 2 that u mentioned he only oversaw the developers.
The game he created after Lineage was XLRacer (witch failed as hard as this game will do)
One need to get ones facts straight before making comments :P
(Team Bloodlust is actualy an acronym for NC softs dev team)
ok fair enough I was mistaken on which game he made. Of course a team makes a video game. Since the sieges in Lineage 2 are very similar to archeage I would ask if they are similar to the original lineage. And if they are then we can see where they get their mechanics or at least the inspiration for them.
In any case, it's ridiculous to show up in a game and expect it to have the same mechanics as a game you like just because one thinks it should be so.
