an Idea for genuine EVE PVE end game

BladestromBladestrom Member UncommonPosts: 5,001

This is something i thought of while chatting in another thread, but I think it is a really good idea, curious to hear what Eve vets woulds think of it.  The premise for this suggestion is that CCP decides they do want to introduce a new PVE element that will not destroy the core PVP aspects.

The suggestion is that for PVE the end game is Titan Sized luxury space liners.  These ships can fly freely through all space including Null, introducing a new luxury tour meta game.

INCOME:

  • Pve passengers, distance covered, sites visited, bonuses for visiting battles and exotic locations. Possible real passengers?

COSTS

  • payment for a permanent Concord escort, really really expensive, and you could cut corners as a gamble.  This concord cover is critical as it is this that makes it a genuine PVE venture where PVE players do not have to worry about griefing and ganking if they pay for proper cover - so they can immerse, i.e you cant 'alpha' the liner - a new PVP target is not the point here.
  • Fuel, staff, food, luxury attractions : pools, cinemas, extra insurance, options are endless.
  • Buying bigger and better ships, fancy lighting, engines,s skins etc.
  • Must have perfect reputation across the board
  • Maybe a small auto payment to system owners when toured.

Restrictions:

cannot carry cargo, cannot attack - so these cruise liners will not be abused by PVP etc.

SHIPS

No balancing required so you could have infinite varieties of ships to give an ongoing PVE end game.

I dont have time right now for a full reply but..

    • Buying bigger and better ships, fancy lighting, engines,s skins etc.

^^ that is coming, they already showed a skin changer UI layout etc and lighting and so forth. Its just not able to be implemented right now. It will arrive when it does I guess.

So this PVE Titan could roam into other people's space and conduct safe PVE there? So their potential "passengers" would be able to rat in, say, a nullsec system that someone else is paying to upkeep, but in total safety due to them being able to afford a Concord escort? Is that what you're suggesting?

I'm pretty sure that Carnival Cruises doesn't bring its cruise ships into active war zones, so why would anyone want a PVE Titan on their grid during battle? All it would really do is increase TiDi for everyone else, no?

The community erupted into one of the worst "revolts" ever over the development work that walking in stations in the Incarna expansion was consuming. So I can't imagine people would be too happy about CCP putting work into a Titan that offered its passengers food and swimming and watching movies in war zones.

Don't get me wrong, creative ideas are needed to keep new players logged in and subscribing. Unlike when I started playing in 2009, I see very few new players (that aren't obvious alts) in the starter regions. So, yeah, something has GOT to be done, but I'm a little unclear on how your idea fits into the EVE universe.

Interesting idea but I can all but guarantee it would not work. Even with Concord protection, you wouldn't get much out of it. The sov holders would make sure of that. They would destroy every site they came across, clear all belts of rats. Clear up as much of the ore as they could. Not to mention the ship losses. You think a Concordoken would stop them? It doesn't in High Sec. Definately wouldn't in their home systems. They would wreck every ship you brought out just to make it so costly that you would have no choice but to leave. All your mining and ratting ships would be dust. Considering how costly you make your idea sound, a few ships would be a small price to grief the hell out of you.

Ideas are always good but there really isn't much to "see" in nullsec. It's the danger and isk that brings folks out there.

As for a tour to witness large scale battles, you just never know when they're going to happen. I don't think people will be putting large scale hot drops on the monthly schedule for a carebear tourist attraction.

The real goal here is to give a an end game for pve, in this case big incredibly expensive ships to invest in that are not pvp orientated, think of it as housing, and he maybe not human passengers after all, and not possible to alpha.

I think your missing the point of a sandbox game, Eve 'endgame' starts the moment you start playing, ie, it isn't meant to have one, the other is, in Eve you can be attacked, the only place your safe is if your docked in a station, its not meant to be otherwise, sure concord will gut you if you attack someone outside of a wardec in highsec, but if you think people don't do it, then you probably haven't heard of the 'burn jita' campaign that the goons carry out, nor the various 'hulkageddons'.

Having a concord escort in null sec, or even in high sec, would just be like waving a red flag at a bull, it will get you hulled, because despite losing their own ships, getting something like what your suggesting on their killmails would be a huge attraction, no, not huge, astronomically massive, seriously, people will travel huge distances just for the chance to get that KM on their boards.

Eve already has a LOT of PVE content, and its being added to on a regular basis, at least in terms of the various missions for mission runners etc, and thats without the type of PVE content that players have been more than able to create themselves, its no coincidence that most players rarely venture out of high sec after all, and its not because their high sec wardecers, though there is no shortage of those!image

^^ eve sandbox long term goals are pvp l not pve, this was a hypothetical 'what if'l and even at that people can't help applying pvp thinking to it, it's fascinating to see. Eve is going to be fucked when ED comes out because braben gets pve, sad to see tbh, eve is one of the best design pieces of gaming software in the last 20 years IMO.

Elite: Dangerous isn't an MMO. Two entirely different games.

Er.. It is an MMO. The tag line even include the words. ("Head for the stars, take a ship and trade, bounty-hunt, pirate or assassinate your way across the galaxy in this massively multiplayer online space adventure")

Yeah it has some private-instanced single player esque feature but that's more for people who want to avoid open PvP.

Is it Eve? No, not really. It's not spreadsheets, a social environment and 30 years to reach max level.

And while OP, your ideas are decent.. well, Eve is kinda past it. I don't see CCP investing their well earned cash into huge sweeping changes like this as the game winds down now to maintenance-only development. Perhaps an Eve 2 will be on the horizon soon. :)

    Singleplayer isn't an MMO.
16-32 player max size 'instances' with the ability to block anyone you wish from entering your instance isn't an MMO.

Elite: Dangerous is a singleplayer game with multiplayer elements. It doesn't matter if the owner of a donkey calls it a horse, it's still a donkey.

Also on topic: This idea for a PVE endgame won't work, because PVE endgame always devolves to grinding NPCs for gear/items.

    Dunno what you've been reading.

From their Wiki, took all of 3 seconds to find:

    There are no multi-player lobbies.

The server transparently creates free roaming sessions (instances) when meeting other players and NPCs within that galaxy based on a perception bubble around you, that is defined by your scanner/visual range. That means that those instances are not a fixed location in space as in most other MMOs, but they dynamically move around.

No different to any other game out there that shards their zones (multiple instances of the same zone to deal with player load). TERA, ESO, WoW, WildStar.. to name a few.

Anyhoo, you're clearly an Eve fan so I'll leave it at that and say there's no reason both games can't exist as well.. their own games, given they are very different in nature (albeit the same in topic)

Some long term PVE goals in EVE include:

Flying incursion fleets in pirate faction BS's

Piloting your own ORCA for mining  boosts

    Manufacturing Capital Ships

    Fighting Sleepers in WH space

Building a collection of Blue Print Originals

    Epic Mission Arcs

    Burner Missions

    Level 5 Missions'

People always complain about a lack of long term PVE, but I'm not quite sure why.

    ridiculous.

all that the senile clown Braben could come up so far are simple text bubble fetch quests and kill X NPC quests in random areas that make "Temple Run" endless runner games on iPads look varied, and that's supposed to be what, a competition? to what? a facebook game?  Not Eve right? Maybe it's a competition to their own Kinectimals game, but that's about it. This shovelware doesn't even have a single sandbox feature, not, ONE. Comparing this to Eve? What an outrageous insult. Plug that somewhere else.
