Diablo 3: Season 2 and Next Patch Details Revealed at Blizzcon

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The Blizzard Diablo III team took to the stage to discuss the upcoming Season 2 and changes that players will notice immediately. There will be new legendaries to collect, new pieces of the seasonal armor, new transmog items, new banners and much more.

In addition, each of the Conquests has been examined for the 'fun factor'. Those not measuring up will not be making a return and new ones will be added.

Lastly, seasonal achievements have been given an overhaul and tailored to give players long term goals over short term "sprint type" goals.

You'll see the return of Conquests that encourage long-term goals, such as It’s a Marathon and Sprinter. Reaching a specific Greater Rift level or rushing through Campaign mode from Act I to Act V are activities that encourage a variety of gameplay, some of which is outside the norm.  In addition, while they offer a clear goal, they also encourage you to push harder for better results.

Well that's cool, but I'm curious how many people even play this game anymore, I don't think I will ever go back to D3, I pre ordered D3 on PC, pre ordered RoS on PC, and bought a version on PS3.

But after playing PoE on and off for a few months, I literally don't have a single reason why I'd go back to D3 unless I just wanted to play an extremely casual version of an ARPG.

i dont care much about loot, i want new story acts/chapters. Got disappointed enough with Leah's dumb fate that made no sense at all. Ill wait for new story.

What killed Diablo 3 isnt loot but the story and structure of the game. Anyways, I hope all those 5 gamers that still playing it enjoy the news.

    Go to hell!

I still play D3, and am excited about this news, especially the 2nd seasons b/c I missed the start of the 1st, so this is all welcome news....that being said though, I took a long break while they got their shit together, and get their shit together they did. I picked up RoS about a month and a half ago and haven't been able to put it down since, almost everything that was wrong with vanilla, has been addressed in RoS and through patches.

They got rid of the AH and real-money gold selling; rebalanced loot drop frequency, loot stats, and affixes while also (finally) adding legendary affixes that appear with some frequency and are potentially quite powerful and game changing; they added new game-modes where you don't have to slog through the story and all the dialog, changed the map and waypoint system, added "bounties" and rifts/greater rifts (think loot runs); AND added an AA-type system that is more traditional to past games.

It's really almost a different game, and I can honestly recommend that if you tried or bought D3 and were turned off by the AH, and/or all the other problems, but there was any aspect that you liked, you really should give it another try if you're in the mood for a solid ARPG. It's not perfect, but they are definitely moving in the right direction.

Yeesh, so much hate for D3.

I enjoyed the season. Brought a bit of D2 into the game with ladders and season-specific content. Only made it to about 220 paragon but I think I'll come back for Season 2. Hopefully they keep building on the game and allow for more build diversity and class diversity. Got tired of seeing so many Demon Hunters and Witch Doctors and Crusaders with Steed/Condemn builds.

I'm a PoE founder and of course think PoE is superior in most ways.

That said, I do find some enjoyment in making a hardcore character in D3 and just playing really aggressive.

I'll stick with Marvel Heroes; leveling in that game feels more rewarding and meaningful than the paragon system in D3, though D3 still remains the second-best ARPG on the market by a large margin. Though Grim Dawn is also shaping up nicely.

AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!

I was disappointed by PoE.  They neglected melee players and catered to the ranged playstyles for too long.  Even after several balance revisions, the risk vs reward for melee vs ranged favors the ranged classes far too much.

DIablo's seasons are their way of adding new content.  I would like it if they didn't force everyone to make new characters and compete in a ladder.   I couldn't care less about the competition.  I just want to continue to progress with my current character(s).

I still play Diablo 2 and i have lost count of hours i have invested in that game. There is always a reason to play as long as you are having 'fun' what you are doing.

There is no fun left in d3.  The devs constantly missing the entire point of the AARPG genre, seasons and the constant nerfing of fun classes to bring up abilities no one wants to use is endless.

Season offer no rewards over playing your regular toon.  Your regular toon will always be more powerful and this patch isn't going to fix that.  The seasonal loot is boring.

They have made a design decision to always buff the lesser used builds.  Here is a news flash, people use skills because they are fun.  You need to redesign the lesser used skills and get rid of the ones that are not used at all for something new.

The point of an aarpg is to become a god.  To wreck through mobs and get experience.  The major problem atm is that just wrecking mobs yields little experience.  It became how fast you can clear a quest.

Diablo II will remain a better game than this garbage.  The need to reskin it, make it 3d and make it diablo IV and forget this trash.

    Agreed. POE is boss.

Similar to how many people seem to feel about GW2, the engine on D3 is just soooooo sweeeeeet, it's nice to take for a spin in between maps and chaos orbs and such :P

I found the skill tree and f2p consessions in PoE to be too annoying to keep going. The initial release of D3 was pretty bad too. D3:RoS did fix many of those isuues and I find the game entertaining in a nice casual way now.

D3 is better than ever and the patch will bring more good things.

I was hoping for a new expansion, but deep down I knew that was wishfull thinking. Oh well, there's always next year!

Yea I'm curious of the population as well. I purchased for ps4 and have recently went back, started a hardcore character (am only lvl 40) but have had my game open to network and nobody has joined. Doesn't help that I'm on HC probably but still!!! Maybe later levels =)

Played diablo 1, 2 and now 3, still play 3 if i have time. What is POE never heard of it is als long name for it. played also titan quest.

After the got rit of real money system, loot drops more frequently and is fun as a green loot drops, for the real money system there was only for hardcore a green drop system. Now i play it every week if i can.
