That would be a stunningly bad idea... Seeing the shape the game was in at the time it closed.
Give it a ARR treatment and it might be doable.... But as it where... Such... a... bad.... idea.
i agree.
If those rumors are true then i hope its a complete remake or ARR treatment heavily. If they just relaunch the old game as it was then it will die again as fast as it comes back up. That game was too clunky to be an acceptable reboot in today's standards without a massive rework.
I have not had time to verify this yet but apparently with the movies in the works, disney has commented on a full swg reboot.
Its ok you can pick your chins off the floor now

It would be cool BUT IF it happened the game would need alot of rework. If you need the pre-CU rose tinted glasses removed go play SWG-EMU. Even a resurrected CU wouldn't be that great. better than NGE but not great. I expect any Star Wars MMORPG to be an abomination, like SWG and SWtOR are. Somethings are beyond the ability of the industry, a good Star Wars MMORPG is one of them.

Just apply some logic to the initial made up rumor for a second......."due to the upcoming movies, Disney wants to reboot SWG"...
Forget anyone's opinion on how good or bad of an MMO SWG was....most people, including SoE, agree that SWG was barely Star Wars. Why the hell would they reboot a failed game that barely represented their lore, when there is already a vastly more successful Star Wars MMO on the market...one which also happens to actually capture what it is to be a hero/villan in a Star Wars universe?
This thread should have been closed, not moved to the rumor section....the mods shouldn't encourage random posters to completely make up a headline just to get people all riled up...that's pretty much the definition of trolling...
This is not a new story, It was even covered on this site as a feature. It showed a farm house screen grab off a monitor. It is not a swg reboot, but a game "they think" is made in the mold of swg. Again not SWG 2.0 but the flavor of the game.
Originally posted by SBFord Thing is, one of the comments Smedley made about Clone Wars was something to do with licensing. From what I've read, this will not be a SW game, but a new IP in the spirit of SWG. Maybe?
Oh and BTW.
/end thread
This plus the fact that as was previously mentioned in this thread that game was H1Z1, Smed even said he was sorry that he said that on twitter after the fact because of how upset all the SWG fans were about seeing a zombie game.
Sorry I missed the original post in this thread.
Not SWG, game is H1Z1.

EA has the rights to all star wars games for the next 10 years, with SWToR in the state its in I just don't see this happening with in the next 5 years with out financial incentive from the mouse.

DIsney/LA retained rights to produce online games actually. That's how that xwing online game was being made that got scrapped.

Smed feels that H1Z1 is the spiritual successor to SWG because of the craftable environment and PvP. You can build your own base and city, form a gang and lay waste to zombies and other players.
In SWG you could gather resources to build a non-instanced home (of size small, medium, large, or guild hall) you could set up faction NPC base defenses, that could be assaulted, captured, or destroyed by opposing faction. These faction bases came in a variety of styles and layout, and could be bought with faction point from the faction store NPC and placed by layers. These player dropped factions bases could only be destroyed as I seem to recall. But the permanent in game factions bases could be temp captured and could switch the faction majority standing of the planet.
I don’t think in SWG you could use vehicles as weapons besides the AT-ST. Because you can do these things in H1Z1, they “feel” it is like SWG. Just not in the SW universe and with Zombies

Lol these types of threads warrant a large bucket of pop corn, seriously OP get a freaking grip. Now that's over i can actually give my take on it.
You are 99% not going to get a full sandbox MMO based on SW or a reboot of SWG, fucking forget about SWG it's long gone.
Saying that, i can see a SW game that is more sandpark than themepark, the best of both formats. What people fail to understand is the star IP of today is reliant on a younger fan base of earlier SW days. And in my honest opinion, while SWTOR is still going you are not going to see another SW MMO.
But what did you think on my take on the feel of H1Z1 as spiritual SWG? Did the thing about building homes and towns and faction bases ring true for you or fall flat? My guild did one faction base destroy raid, but the specific class requirement made it a one time thing.

The point of that reply, was to agree with you....i even said "initial rumor" to show that i was referring to the thing you quoted.....was that not clear?....is your hostility really necessary? lol
First, the rumor is based upon the re-registration of the term/words "Star Wars Galaxies". This was and is owned by Lucasfilm which (as we know) is owned by Disney. It is common practice for any company has registered trademarking on any number of terms, media and such. It is also common that those same companies wish to protect those same trademarked items so that someone else does not use or misuse them. Nowhere with the re-registration does it mention intent to actually use the trademark. Nor does it say that it is in any way associated with SOE.
Second, SOE is not longer hold any liscense to produce ANYTHING Star Wars. The gaming licsensing was given exclusively to EA. For MMO's and other games associted with the Star Wars trademark. EA currenly has one and only one MMO related to Star Wars which is SWTOR. It is unlikely that EA will ever produce a second MMO which might compete against that flag-ship game for obvious reasons. That does not mean you will not see some sort of tie-in to the new SW movies (although I hope not). What it does allow is for EA and Disney to use the term "Star Wars Galaxies" in promoting SWTOR if they choose.
Therefore, I call this rumor of a SWG reboot very unlikely if not out-right false.
