Originally posted by Retired Game has a poor framerate compared to other recent titles that are much more GPU intensive. All other games run smooth on my box, except this.
There is no multithreaded renderer and CPU bottle necking.
Remember that its clearly in alpha/beta. That's just how it is For now.

Optimization is always one of the last phases. I think that's largely due to it being hard to optimize a game that isn't finished. They need to have all the systems in place before they can tweak performance properly.
Would be like giving a car engine a tune up before you have it built.
I've had issues with "stuttering" when the character is moving around, and falling thru the world when I'm trekking a long ways. It gets so frustrating that I've stopped playing.
I got the Settler's Pack during the summer, built a version of Independence Hall in Philly which was fun. But now, I only log in once in a while just to see if it stopped.
I've posted quite a bit on their forums, and it doesn't seem to be a certain graphics card issue or any other spec issue. They just need to optimize it, but in the meantime, they are reducing their testing population.
What do you mean reducing the testing population? Do you mean they have moved their internal testers to something else? Or do you mean the poor performance is causing people to stop playing?
Anyways. I think it was the patch 2 weeks ago where they added multi core support which helped some. I can throw shadows up to high now and get 40-60 fps where before it was a miracle to hit 30 fps. And I believe they have yet to optimize how shadows are rendered.
Still there are performance issues that remain and I am not sure if or when it can be fixed. The messenger boots allow me to run faster than the game world updates around me which causes gearing and if light from light sources overlap it kills FPS which is really bad in caves.
But the game runs better now than it did 3 months ago.
