Titan cancelled, anyone else happy?

As a massive WoW fan, I am thoroughly disappointed to see what it has become.

Not only that but Blizzard has dumbed down a lot of their games recently to go with their new company direction including starcraft and diablo.

For this reason, I am happy that Blizzard spent 7 years producing titan to only have it fail and be cancelled.

I believe the mmorpg industry needs a new direction from WoW and am relieved that once WoW eventually dies, the next mmo rpg to take the crown wont be a blizzard mmorpg.

Does anyone else feel the same?

I have huge respect for their games and the standard they set..and i hope they are working on a MMO..instead of focusing on small games.!

Technically Titan never failed. It's quite possible, based on what they say Titan was "supposed" to be, it would have appealed to many, but just not enough. That's doesn't mean it was a bad game, it was just too niche for Blizzard.

Why should I care who makes the next big MMO??

If its good and people like it,  what difference does that make?  Its like you were assuming that if they finished Titan it would have been similar to WoW and a huge success like WoW.

Bit of an assumption, don't you think?

Lol overwatch is just a moba.

You are right though, they spent 7 years working on titan for it only to fail and then for them to take the scraps left to make overwatch which from their own words is just team fortress meets starcraft.

Its not even the right genre to take the mmo rpg crown. No one cares about it. Its not what this thread was about.

We are talking about mmo rpgs not mobas.

Starcraft II was dumbed down? Jesus I'd hate to play the first one. The second one is brutal for me to get through heh.

I think its fair to say after 7 years of wasted development and 100 staff having to be reallocated that they wont be planning another mmo rpg anytime soon which like I said in the opening in a good thing in my opinion.

Although I respect your opinion, I am very happy that they wasted so much time and money because it leaves the market open for another mmo to take away wows crown when it dies.

It took them 7 years to produce titan for it to fail so its safe to say they wont be making another mmo rpg any time soon.

I was looking forward to seeing what would come out of Titan.

If it was great, then great!

If it was not great, then oh'well...til the next one...

Technically Titan did fail. they had 100 staff working on it for 7 years to cancel it at the last minute after postponing it already to redevelop it.

So technically it failed twice for being a team fortress clone, the 1st time it failed was b4 they postponed it for 2 years to redesign it and the 2nd time when they outright cancelled it after 7 years in development.

It doesn't mean its a bad game like you said but I belive it would have been a very average mmo rpg at best hence its failure.

The important point for me is that they wont be retaining the mmo rpg crown after WoW though which brings around many interesting possibilities for who will.

I wouldn't say that I'm happy, I'm more impressed than anything really. Blizzard doesn't succumb to the sunc-cost fallacy than oh-so many in their position would have. Blizzard values their reputation for making good games. (Ok, hello Diablo 3. Blizzard also has the balls to admit when they've done something wrong and aim to fix it to the best of their ability.)

Blizzard, from what it sounds like, didn't have that top-notch game. With the recent, literally hundreds of "flops" in the MMO genre, they know the market is extremely tough right now. They likely had a decent game going, a game that probably would've fit in pretty decently in the market right now. However, Blizzard aint about that. They're about being the #1, or #2, if they think they can't do it, they wont do it.

They've realized that they can't beat themselves, i.e WoW. I personally haven't picked up WoD yet and I probably wont, I'm just not into that type of MMO anymore. However, from the looks of it, seems to be a pretty good expansion so far.

TL;DR - They did the right thing cancelling Titan. How so and why? Because they did.

How many WoW hate threds and posts, on how many different accounts, have you made since it became clear that WoD has been a huge success so far?

Please tell me...which game are you upset at WoW for emptiing out?

When WOW eventually dies?  At this rate you are talking about 15 years or more, hopefully we won't have to wait that long for a new crowned champion, but the way it's going right now, might just be the case.

    Good luck with that.

Given how far ahead WoW is of all it's competition on this side of the Pacific they've still got 5-10 years to develop a new mmo to replace WoW as the number one mmo.  Counting Blizzard out of the fight for the next big mmo is silly particularly looking at how bare the new mmo cupboard is right now.

Another 5 to 10 years my ass, you are massively overestimating the life of wow left.

In any case, it took Blizzard 7 years to develop titan to scrap it, assuming the next mmo rpg takes 7 years as well from blizzard, they would need to start making it within 3 years which is very unlikely considering the amount of money they lost making titan and the timespan of their current development projects.

So we can safely rule another mmorpg out from blizzard for the next 10 years. So that brings us to the question of if wow will survive another 10 years even if Blizzard could make another mmo rpg by 10 years time.

The answer is most likely no and that's because we are already in the next gen console era and even console games have outstripped wow in tech quality by a long a way.  That's not to say wow cant keep competing for a while longer but will wow really be competing in 10 years time after we have seen the advent or real next gen games like say witcher 5 n the distant future or a current gen mmo, I severely doubt it.

So the simple conclusion is after wow, Blizzard will lose its lead on the mmo rpg industry which I for one welcome.

The only real question is how much longer will wow be able to hold out with its old graphics / gameplay, what game will take its place and from which company.

My opinion is wow will be dead in 3 years because we have next gen mmos like the division coming out and everquest next. Lets face it comparing wows graphics to the division is like comparing poo to gold. I am not sure what the game to kill wow will be but if its a 2015 game, I think it will either be the division or everquest next.

As for the company which replaces Blizzard as the king, I am unsure.

The only certainty is that Blizzard will not retain its crown as the mmorpg king after wow which I celebrate because I think we need some real innovative thinking which I do not believe Blizzard is capable of atm.

The next WoW x-pack is already in development and they have concepts for another 5 or 6 x-packs. WoW is gonna be around for a long time. And all I have to say to the OP is...

lol concepts so you mean ideas which they haven't done anything about. If that's the case, I have concepts for the next 20 wow expansions since I can make up any idea I want. Heck, heres 1 lets make an island of pandas as a concept... WHOOOPS its been done !!! lol

You can have as many unplanned random ideas as you want, it doesn't mean wow will last another 10 years and if you think it will you are massively overestimating it.

There are actualy next gen games coming out and even next gen mmos and Wow just cant keep up with its outdated graphics, tech and gameplay.

If you compare wow to the division which is a new mmo (looks brilliant btw) its like comparing how poo looks (wow) to gold (the division).

As more and more games become standard in quality to dragon age 3 or the division, wow will not be able to cope. Even consoles are too powerful for wow nowadays,
