It’s been roughly two years since I last played World of Warcraft. A run of disappointing expansions and ageing gameplay mechanics drove me away from Blizzard’s MMO, and into a nomadic search for something new, exciting and satisfyingly deep. But then, like a siren’s call, Warlords of Draenor tugged at me. Although I was deeply skeptical about returning, could WoW’s latest expansion turn me around?

IMHO its an Epic expansion. By far my favorite of all of them. The other expansions, including the TBC and WoTLK, just felt like they were stringing me along. This expansion feels like an entirely new game within itself, with a greater feel for exploration and questing, while still preserving the lore of the game.
I hit 100 a few days ago, but I'm not even close to finishing the story line which has been the best to date. The graphics were taken up several notches and the world looks awesome.
In other expansions when I would become bored of basic quest chains I would do the usual crafting or gathering, now I have my own garrison that I am the Commander of and can do all those things from there.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
"Yes, some of these ideas have been seen elsewhere, "
ALL of these have been seen elsewhere. Actually, all in a single game: GW2. Blizzard at its finest: World of Copycraft.
"but it feels like Blizzard has thought long and hard how we actually play and worked out how to remove some of the speedbumps."
Read: Yea, yea, others have done, but Blizzard is best MMO!! In fact, the longer I think about it I'm sure Blizzard has actually invented all these things. Everyone else is just a clone. You should /uninstall and come, join the master game!!
I would rate this exp nr 2 after Wotlk (loved the lore), never played BC, so cant compare with that one.
Its bringing the old Warcraft feeling back, building a base and your own army. I hope they add ships and seabattles in future exp. as in, was it Warcraft 2?

I love GW2! Did it get housing, mounts, and even flying mounts?
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
Actually... to be fair the Garrisons are more similar to the GW2 "home" instance than traditional housing.
Stopped to read OP's crap here "It’s been roughly two years since I last played World of Warcraft. A run of disappointing expansions and ageing gameplay mechanics....". Every expansion in fact has been GREAT expansion, all had something new, exciting, incredible improvement to already one of best gameplay mechanics, ... sure, hated some changes but they were few and have adapted. My only deep disappointed in all this years goes to Wod's "new models". Terrible disappointment, not because models itself, but because they have changed many faces like day and night. Will continue to use old models, just hope they stay until they fix this abomination.
Garrisons are incredible thing, more you go into game, better they become. Still not past 94 with any of my alts, but missing only to have "my own" quarters with decorative elements.
For the rest all the best and could not care less for posts from people that very obviously do not like Wow but continue to post.
About bugs ... guess this is (not counting original release but I was not there at that time) most buggy release as I can see from forums. But funny thing, not for me. It looks only some realms were affected. I.e. Bronze Dragonflight and some other had virtually never any queue longer then i.e. 15 mins, problem with garrisons but autosolved usually in short, .. few bugged quests easy to finish after dropping and reaquiring, ... Love to much this game that this would cause me to be disappointed.
You people are really stretching it to fit GW2 in here even though WOW's garrisons got absolutely nothing in common with GW2. Please stop i beg you.
Which ideas exactly? pet battles? garrisons? mounts? what ideas are you talking about? i have no idea where the hell did GW2 in come into picture here?
Also i would like to challenge your claim that GW2 brought 'new ideas' to MMO genre.
I was also planning to risk a glimpse again but now i'm really happy i didn't. Let them fix all the server issues first, wait to stop the ddos attacks and hope they fix the phaisng regarding the garrison.
I think after all this addon give us again the best wow feeling in 2014. Looks pretty nice so far.
best

The only one talking "master game" is you about your precious GW2. It's rather awkward you and the rest can't let go of a grudge you have been holding towards a VIDEO GAME for TEN YEARS! I suggest you try and let it go little buddy because they are talking it will be around another TEN YEARS!
What grudge are you talking about ? the guy is simply talking facts here + gw2 is an amazing game which succeeded until now( 2years+) with b2p model, i don't want wow to die , actually i want it to continue for 20 more years but i also like diversity and competition
Not at all. The home instances ArenaNet hyped up were scrapped in all but name-one of the many huge disappointments in GW2. It was supposed to grow and change with your achievements, but that never happened- it was just a place you occasionally went to for quests that's otherwise empty.
I know eventually they added a few gathering nodes you can add from Living Story, but that doesn't even come close to what was promised, and certainly isn't comparible with Garrisons.
Not even close.
Nope. Playing garrison now for almost a week so nope.
gdub2 is hardly talked about at all anymore. Interjecting this and friends into a WoD thread....lame.
I hate the direction wow went in, don't get me wrong. But just leave gw2 behind here.
