I've only seen a few videos and frankly it looks like crap, i.e. a saturday morning cartoon.

It is the first dumbed down and easy mode MMO.  Millions started playing MMOs with this game and claim all others are clones of it when it is nothing more than an EQ clone that requires zero skill to succeed at.  That last bit is my opinion of course but I did play it and I formed my opinions from personal experience.

I don't play WoW.....well, at least to lvl 60 in VANILLA WoW...stopped ever since..but the amount of hate people have for WoW is both hilarious and awe-inspiring at the same time.

Just stop it guys lol Its the same thing as what console gamers used to say about PC gaming being dead...lol see where that got them. While I don't think WOW could actually last as long as PC gaming (or mebbe it could) but seriously, shouldnt you be doing something more enjoyable..like playing games that you do enjoy? Or perhaps you actually wish you play WoW but you don't want to ruin that "anti WoW/mainstream" persona that you like about yourself? Maybe its cool to be known to be a WoW hater amongst your gaming circles but I just don't feel its worth that much of your time or passion lol.

Or it is simply the best Made game out there, and more fun to play than any other game.  Compared to WoW, there is no other game worth playing.  If they are not playing WoW or don't enjoy it, then they made a mistake in joining this web site.  Obviously good games are not their thing.  The art and graphics are optimized for low lag, just ask the folks complaining about the lag on Modern Warfare.  Things is the graphics and engine console gamers want used in MMOs can't handle MMOs.  That's why the most money goes to a game with WoW's graphics  and not FarCry the MMO.

I suppose if Everyone is able to beat them at PvP, then the game must be so easy that skill-less players can easily beat them.  There is no way, that everyone else is skilled and they are not?

Gas prices are down to less than $3, so that extra $8 - $15 is going back to paying for WoW.  Why waste hard earned money on anything else, when they can play the best?

I mean what are the previous levels ? 2-6 million in Vanilla WoW ? 6-9 million in TBC ? 11 + million in WotlK and 10 million in Cata?

or the 3 years cycle of around 7.5 million subscribers while the rest went free to play and had to abandon subs after one year ?

You are almost there dude. Its ~3,300,000 subs. Everything else is F2P (almost) accounts from China.

Of course agree. Some are just unhappy with Wow being still big undefeated gorilla. And for sure will getting my sub for approx. half year when i guess my 11 alliance alts will be leveled to max with great joy via questing. Then will need break to return for my horde alts. Then will wait for next expansion. And repeat this cycle for years to come. Only game that is able to suck me so much in is Swtor. I'm only sorry they release expansion in december, to close to Wod which I plan to enjoy fully for few more months.

Ummmmmmmmmmmm, why not just use their ACTUAL revenues. It's actually not that difficult.

2013 subscription revenues were like $1.041 Billion, meaning they were collecting an average of 7 million subscriptions per month, whether that be from 3.3 million "actual" subs or 1 billion Chinese "almost" F2P accounts. So pretty much *face palm*

I am sorry but WOW is not a EQ clone. I don't know why people say that. EQ was a very complex and user unfriendly game. I wonder if you guys even played EQ or just copy paste what you read on internet.

Actually wow has had declining bumbers of subs ever since 2009.

Cata and the other expansions didn't make dent in even 6 monthely subscriptions number because they didn't retain the players. At the 6 month plot lines for number of subs in wow, it shows no increase for any of the expansions since 2009 because there was no customer retention for up to 6 monthes.

I think you are right, however its not out of the question to think WoW could sustain.

This all depends on content pace.  If they can truly fix their glacial times between expansions their retention will be much better.  But I doubt this will happen.

But if they were to announce around the time of patch 6.1 hints to the next expansion and an expected release for Q4 2015 people would stay around.

    Interesting numbers. Interesting comments.

I wonder...if the movie is actually good and becomes a hit, how it would bolster/support more subscribers to the game? The opposite could be true if it sucks.

I am pretty sure you can check it out for yourself (google ftw) that their cash shop + account services revenue is very paltry compared to what they make from subs.

Moreover you keep generalising entire asian player base as 7cents per month.. do you have any idea how much they actually pay? it is lot more costly to pay WOW in Asia than in west.

3.3 millon  boxes sales is great.  I'd love to see what the US and EU sub numbers per month have been since launch.  That's the trend that I care about because it's impossible to gauge the East numbers based on how they count each as a sub.

All my friends who currently play can't stop raving about this expansion and sending me invites to return. Ive even had friends I haven't heard from in nearly a decade restart their subs.

I have a feeling that 10 mill might only be the beginning to a new wave of WOW popularity.

Grats to Blizzard. I am looking forward to becoming their newest statistic next month.

You do realise that WOW core gameplay hasnt started yet i.e the same old same old raiding cycles. what are they raving about exactly? the questing no-one in wow cares about perhaps? or is it the garrison mini game?

PS i Love to play old WOW on Private servers and I love to playing Age of Empires too occasionally.  Inserting one into the other = bereft of cohesive vision.

Are you serious Coretex666 the number will drop like again like always do in WoW MoP have close 10 million at start and before patch 6.0.2 hit live server the number was down to 6 - 7 million subscribers fact is that after 1st 1 year when the hardcore raider is done play around in raid then will stop playing again and slow WoW will lose subscrivers again.
