Will Skyforge have a stigma for being Russian?

Adjuvant1Adjuvant1 Member RarePosts: 2,100

I think, with the current geo-political environment and the attitude between Russia and the west which doesn't seem to be calming any time soon, I personally won't be investing money in a Russian-made mmo. I understand it seems like paranoia, and that's fine, but if the conditions don't get resolved, why should I trust a Russian company with my financial info? Similarly, why would I log on to Russian servers and be at the mercy of whatever data I freely allow from them?

What do you think? Is Putin destroying this game's chance for success?

It's a game. Why involve politics? My government doesn't represent or speak for me on most issues. Why should the Russian government represent Russian individuals/companies? They have done nothing to show me they have a political agenda. Did I miss something?

As I understand it the game is suppose to be F2P. I don't think you will be forced to give vital information to play. As always though it's up to you. It will have little to no impact on me, whether or not I play the game. Obviously this will change if the company brings politics into the game, for whatever odd reason.

Depending on who owns it might determine whether or not it ends up on a western sanctions list, if it does we might not be permitted to play it, unless of course they come up  with a western publisher.

What has that got to do with Gaming, I suggest you get your propaganda fuelled fear and prejudice under control.  Just because a bunch of Western and Russian politicians act like children does not mean the population of any countries involved are all of the same character - that is the start of racism.  I'm in Britain, and I could equally say west's military approach to the middle East is criminal in some regards - does that mean the world should stop trusting every western civilians?

I won't play Assassin's Creed: Unity because those stinky Quebecers made it!

Just kidding. I really don't see how that matters. Let us not demonize a game studio for being a certain nationality. This is the sort of thing Russia needs to stimulate it's economy.

oh it assuredly is, as soon as you start generalising, I.e 'russIans' in negative terms you are on your way.

No, that's not true at all. Everyone has prejudices and they're actually in many instances necessary to protect self, like prejudice against thieves or prejudice against exploitive opportunists or telemarketers. Some are admittedly flighty or unreasonable, and judging someone by the color of their skin is just plain unwise. That's not what this is, though. There's no talk about "because muskovites are  white". You're being extreme unnecessarily for effect.

I'm talking about what if the SVR RF decides to accost the company and make all skyforge players' computers part of a botnet, or seizes records from the company and has all that payment data. What if, as another said, sanctions reach a point the game is no longer available to the west, and all your invested time and money are suddenly out the window.

edit: There's a very real issue growing, especially financially between Russia and the west. This isn't make believe and it's getting worse by the day.

Well lets put it down to fear then.  I Fear that the Western Economy will implode due to a corrupt political structure where 'lobbying' has a negative impact on morally or intellectually correct decisions and over consumption and Over population is not even considered openly as an issue because of greed  but I still invest in Western companies.

I think you have to live life with more trust in people and as soon as we generalise we leave out the ability to trust people.  'They' become the enemy and back to tribalism we go.

Well, similar to Allods, AA, etc., there will usually be a US publisher. So they handle they are the ones who generally handle the taking of your money part, holding of your CC info, etc. So it's not likely that your info will be sitting in some KGB facility that Skyforge is acting as a front for.

Personally as a gamer, the country which reates the game doesn't matter to me.

I like the concept of skyforge, being born as an immortal and deciding your path.

In any case, if I did care about which country does produce my games, I would support skyforge more because its Russian.

Actually, now that I think about it, I do already try to avoid American products because I don't support Americas actions abroad so I guess I do care a bit so I guess skyforge being Russian is a plus for me.

Why would you give a Western company your financial info? It's not that your information is really save here. Sony, Target, Home Depot just to name a few. Or some other game companies double-tripple charged their costumers.

Each of your questions can be asked about Western companies too and the answer is the same: If they did abuse your information on purpose the game will shut down in a month.

And since the US has no problem dealing with outstanding countries like Saudi Arabia, North Korea or China and the only country on the embargo list is Cuba I doubt they will do anything against Russia. And the EU won't do anything because they need the ressources from Russia.

So as long as the US is friends with a country that beheads people (Saudi Arabia, 26 in August alone) I doubt they will do anything that stops the trade with Russia.

Lets not forget that America only put a trade embargo on cuba because they failed to overthrow the country by training and arming terrorists in the bay of pigs incident.

That's typical though of their actions in my opinion which is why I support the other side.

only issue I can see with this game is being russian is if tehy follow the same monetizing as allods did,

other then that for all I care, russia can anex willing states to they country, if they wish for

FOR HONOR, FOR FREEDOM.... and for some money.

To be honest, I think it looks very good but I am especially pleased with the jump in mmo graphics which we have all been waiting for for a long time.

The jump in graphics to everquest next, skyforge and the division is the sort of jump ive wanted for a long time to have actual immersion into a game.

Im just surprised that it took this long but very happy its finally here now.

I tried to not put specifics into the discussion. There are various ways to negate the US position on this topic and I guess most people here could do it but for the sake of argument or in other words to keep it at an mmorpg level let's not include those.

People can read up on history themselves which servers the purpose of education more than some no name saying things on a forum. None the less it is nice to have a start on what to "wiki" so I hope you don't interpret that as negative.

I would avoid it on principle if it came out Putin was directly involved in financing and profiting from this game as I'm very outraged over his recent aggressions but the people saying you can't hold a whole country responsible for what its government does  have a good point. Most Russians are good people just like most people anywhere.

No? The Russian forums are very active and their community is developing right alongside the EU and NA community. We all had a technical beta event this past weekend and the number were very similar. It's just as popular in Russia as it is over here.

This question has been asked a few times on the Skyforge forums, where in all honesty it has no place, but I really don't see politics playing a significant part in this game's development. Allods Online is still breathing after it was adopted by Mail.ru.

And once again, while Allods Team began the monetizing process, they responded to player outrage. IT was gPotato that chose to design the game to break wallets.

Why to invest money in pacifist goverment of Russia. There is no profit in peace. I support american goverment. They k now how to make money. Sold rockets to Israel. Profit. Israel bombed Palestina. Borrowed money to rebuilt Palestina. Profit. Sold weapons to Syrian rebels. Profit. They formed IS. War brings money. Thats why american goverment through out the history invested in war. Ican go on. But will probably stop.

    Lets make MMO not WAR.
