Guy cheated in game, duped a bunch of currency, used that currency to buy stuff he had no right too, and Trion is in the wrong?
He duped currency, purchased stuff that didn't belong to him.
Duped, exploited, took what wasn't his.
Are you guys getting any of this?
So if a person steals from Bestbuy and the cops go to his house and grab him, he should be allowed to pay for the items and then BestBuy would drop the charges and let him back in the store like nothing happened?
The issue isnt that the duping was right, no one is saying that. You are trying to use that to twist words and change the argument. The issue is, Trino offered this guy a chance to pay for the dupes and would fully reinstate his account. They continue to publicly say how their bans are permanent and then turn around and allow those banned right back into the game. Maybe you are ok with allowing hackers/bots/exploiters right back into the game but most of us are not.
"Sean (Murray) saying MP will be in the game is not remotely close to evidence that at the point of purchase people thought there was MP in the game." - SEANMCAD
Yes, EXACTLY and Trion will let this person back into their game if he pays up. That is crazy right?
You probably drive faster than the speed limit, fail to stop completely at stop signs, and fail to use your turn signal for every lane change, but they still let you drive a car. That is crazy, right?
The punishment fits the crime in this case. People exploited a UI bug that gave them currency. They now have to pay for that currency or they don't get to keep it.
That's just like you paying a fine if you get caught speeding. Do it enough times, or go too fast, and only then will they take your license away. The exploit wasn't as game-breaking as using third-party programs which let you teleport around, kill players from underneath the terrain, or bot your way to the level cap.
I find it hard to swallow. Kick out exploiters the same way you would other cheaters/hackers....by not letting them come back at all. Not like they can't ban your IP
IPs are too easy to change for that to work.
Did you ever cheat at any game? If someone wants to pay for the Apex, let them have their account back. If they exploit or cheat again, ban them. A virtual currency cheat is not that big of a deal to me as long as the currency is paid for or removed from the economy. It isn't like they were soloing raid bosses, wallhacking, teleporting, or killing players from under the ground where they can't be attacked back.
No I never have...I'm a normal human being. I don't need to cheat to have fun.
..and no it isn't hard to IP ban...if you think it is...read more. Has been done, is done now.

This doesn't seem unreasonable to me but I can see how it looks bad.
As a company, Trion now has bad debt on the books where real money was effectively stolen via the APEX duping issue. They have no way to collect except through litigation, and that may be coming down the road for these folks. But in the meantime, this communication establishes that the player has a debt to Trion, and that there is a method to pay the debt. This is necessary for any collections to go forward.
In the OP's example, that player owes Trion $430. It's pretty simple.
Originally posted by NBForrest1 you`re right it`s not theft, it`s fraud, more specifically it`s wire fraud which is a federal crime.
No it is not, because it was done within a game.
Games are an area of life that is normally very little regulated by the government. Agreements about rules of a game are normally unenforceable in court, and participants to a game are seen as having given their consent for actions, accidents and even cheating that is normal and typical to the game.
Trion might be able to successfully sue someone using a bot for copyright infringement or disturbing their game with automated program that connects to it, but their chance of being able to win against someone who has found in-game means to break the rules of their game are close to zero.
I'm not going to read through all the pages, but even from the first page it was apparent a lot of other people saw the humor in this. Nobody is going to pay 42 APEX back. Nobody. Who cares what was on that account, lol.
This is just telling the people who exploited : You got us, now we have you. I seriously doubt they're going to reinstate any accounts that was willing to pay up. I seriously doubt anyone will pay up unless its real minor, and sure who cares if they pay up they're just paying for what they used at that point.
Heh Neverwinter had this exact type of things happen to it as well...and it's still alive and doing decently (I guess?)
At least PWI gave players a cool achievement for witnessing in-game economic meltdown hehe.
These types of games/companies rely on the never-ending masses of new players who spend lots of $$$ randomly on crap to survive. Not on building a very loyal player base *bla*bla*. Exploiters are actually part of the strategy sometimes, since they create very strong pressure on "competitive" players to spend more money in order to compete.
"Trion trying to get money from APEX dupe banned accounts!"
But it should be:
"Trion demand those who use APEX incorrectly pay for it"
I dont agree with most what is current hapening and Trion/XLGames are been doing a bad management but theres is no need for exagerations about it.
- XLGames code allow exploits around APEX.
- Some players find out and abuse it using the exploit.
- Its a bannable ofense so players shoud be banned.
- They were banned but if they pay all the APEX they incorrect used, they can stay. The damage they create in economy cant be restored.
Im not shock with this, im sure no one will pay anyway.
This.
I think the important point is that some players effectively stole the Apex through an exploit, now, they've been caught and if they want to continue in the game, they're going to have to pay for the things they stole, i don't really see anything wrong with that, if anything the company is being fairly lenient by giving them the option of paying for their malfeasance, most games developers would have permabanned them and be done with it.
Thing is, do the rest of the players in the game want these miscreants to be given the option of returning in the first place, you know the honest players who just want to play the game without cheating, wouldn't mind betting that most would rather say good riddance to them and don't let the door smack their behinds on the way out
- They were banned but if they pay all the APEX they incorrect used, they can stay. The damage they create in economy cant be restored.
What damage? If they pay, then they have earned the Apex. If they don't pay, then the Apex stays on their banned account. They can create a new account and continue participating in the economy.
I haven't played the game, so I might be missing something. I'm just trying to provide a point of view that not many are considering. Too many people are equating this to theft when it is more like walking in a movie theater's open back-door without paying. A theater doesn't lose any money just because you sit in an otherwise empty seat. They just want you to pay or leave.

- You buy credits in AA shop, doesnt matter how much, you sell stuff from shop in AH to get gold and the price is based on demand - supplie, example: a LP pot is around 20g
- You get "unlimit" credits, you didnt pay for them, you sell LP pots in AH for 5g because the credits have no value for you.

i think what your missing is the point, when something is taken without permission or payment, its called theft, and its not even slightly similar to sneaking into a cinema to watch a film, its more akin to sneaking out of a supermarket with goods you haven't paid for. I think most players would be fully justified for thinking perhaps they would rather these types of people didn't continue to 'contribute' to the 'economy' in their own particular, if dubious, fashion.

F2P game and all. Create a new account - I'm baaack!
This is basically a condemnation of the F2P/Pay-2-win business model. You just have to accept rampant cheating/bots/exploits because the game company has no control.
You want to play a game where cheaters are expelled? Where those who exploit face actual consequences? Steer clear of a F2P/Pay-2-win game.
This has to be the lowest a company can go. They would actually re-instate the cheaters account if he paid up.
Even asking for this is unprofessional to say the least.
This is really telling where the priorities for Trion are.

Trionwreck 2014
You can cheat and exploit as long as you pay up if you get caught.

IMPORTANT: This is from the official Forums, not a message i got. I don't even play the game and never have outside of open beta.
I actually seen this yesterday and have kind of watched how this post went. Weird, maybe it's my own sarcastic mind, but my first assumption was the cheater probably was begging for his account back. Knowing the player would have to make a new "F2P/P2W" account, they just threw this back at him letting him know, "Hey, give us the $400 back and we will let you have this account". Who knows? I think it's a horrible business practice to allow a hacker/cheater to play the game or any game they have cheated in, there should simply be an I.P. ban.
I think Trion is well aware, that this cheater will be back with a different hack on another account. Heh, he/she probably already has multiple accounts......all of which he/she is cheating on.
So your complaining that they want their money that you BASICALLY stole from them? heh kids these days, i remember my friend being banned in the day simply because his credit card ended in 6666 they thought it was a fake.

No, i don't. Why is it so hard for some people to read and understand a simple post? I think i made it perfectly clear that:
1. This was from the official forums and i don't even play the game.
2. I am not complaining that they want their money back i am saying that it is shady business practice and unprofessional to allow cheaters back into the game as long as they pay up.
