Wait, is this supposed to be the best mmo currently on the market or the best mmo of all time? I forgot what they said when they first started it.
For instance, in my opinion best of all time is probably EQ1, but it's not the best currently on the market by virtue of being 15 years old.
Was sorry to see some really good games go in the first round...but c'est la vie, such are random pairings.
Also hating to see my beloved EQ being crushed by LOTRO...another of my all time favorites, but further down on the list....maybe squeaking into the top 5 vs my #1 or #2.
I think that is kind of up to the voter to decide. Whatever your reasons for choosing one over the other is valid.
I'm surprised one of Nexon's MMOs (Maplestory, Mabinogi, Atlantica Online, Dragon Nest) wasn't included in this tournament... especially MapleStory given how big that game is.

I have my doubts WoW will win. This site has been a notorious nesting ground for WoW haters. WoW should win based upon the fact that the game has completely dominated the mmo scene for a decade now...that alone shows the quality of the game regardless of what the detractors might think.
We are voting for the best MMO. WoW is so big because it keeps on catering to the lowest common denominator, it wants soo badly to remain the largest game on the market because that in itself has become it's greatest selling point. The aim nowadays is to stay safe and in doing so it sacrifices every ounce of originality, innovation and inspiration it once may have had.
Age will change what the best MMO ever is. When I was younger the top song of all time was usually Stairway to Heaven. I doubt the younger generation would choose that song. Many in the younger generation might not even have heard of Led Zepplin.
I only voted for EQ because I have not been able to play LoTRO for a couple of years now because I keep getting an error when I try to connect to a server.

When people pull the "lowest common denominator" card, I just immediately shrug off their opinion as useless. It's like you guys pull this verbatim from page 23 of the WoW Hater's Handbook or something. I also find it ironic you denounce WoW and its clones for a lack of originality when you aren't even original enough to come up with a gripe about WoW that hasn't been spouted word for word by the rest of your ilk a million times before.
Dungeon Fighter Online has reportedly earned more money than World of Warcraft this year from the period of January to September. On that same list provided by Superdata, Lineage 2 wasn't even in the top ten of revenue earned.
I'm voting for EVE. It's like the only MMORPG I know of that's trying to be an actual MMORPG; a living, breathing virtual reality where your actions can make a difference and the consequences reap reward or humiliation felt outside the game.

My money is on something much newer than EQ... something like TSW: a game that is almost never brought up in a negative way.

ArcheAge is a great game, imo. It's not managed very well by its NA publisher, but as a game regardless of how badly they're handling it (including blocking off content that -should- be accessible to us in this version of the game), it's a good game in and of itself.
I loved PS2 as well, before some of the more recent changes. But my loyalty lies with ArcheAge.

Well, my favorites are still in, TSW (my favorite all time MMo), TESO, my current fav.
Though right now i'm playing a non MMO, DAI, which is really a blast.
If you shoot a mime, do you have to use a silencer?

I think it will be ESO vs GW2 in the final(round 4?) of the new games. Not so sure about the old ones. I'd like to see WoW vs EvE though
I think for next time you guys should actually pick the match-ups. Some of these seem unfair? Runescape vs WoW? I'd rather vote Rift vs WoW or such
And EVE vs Lineage? EvE is alone right now until Star Citizen, and I'd maybe do Lineage vs EQ or FF 9 or smthg.
While some of Archeage was good. I just couldn't let myself vote for it after the other stuff.
I'm not a big fan of Planetside 2, 1 yes but not 2. Though I'll vote for it just to not vote for AA
