Proven Wrong

I was wrong.

I first tasted this game in beta and made a list of the features I felt were missing. I championed maligning the game. I ignored how much I enjoyed the gameplay.

That all changed.

I found the game on sale for $20 on Steam and gave it a gander. Now, I find myself actually longing for it. The setting, the story, the mystery of the systems and exploration. It's exciting. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Nope was a boring themepark to me. The entire game felt like it was on rails.

I quit in in May when I hit concrete wall called veteran content. Went back in October, rolled a new sorcerer in a different faction and doing VR now. I like this game. It's a theme park but the visuals, gameplay and of course P2P make ESO one of the very few for me. It helps me to get a fix until a space exploration MMO comes out (probably never happens but hope dies last).

It was the magic combat system used in ESO that actually destroyed the game for me, of course the faction locked classes and areas were disappointing, but how they handled magic combat was such a disappointment that i just couldn't get past it, sometimes you just have to walk away from things like that. I just wish they'd used the regular magic combat system found in Oblivion or Skyrim, would at least have been fun to play even if never ventured a foot inside of cyrodiil image

i meant races, but when you are limited to only a few races that you would even consider playing, it pretty much means the same thing, in TES games i tend to only play Bretons, which meant that in ESO i had really no choices in what areas to play, but graphically i would have to say the game looked awesome, really liked the games aesthetics, which considering some of the screenshots that others have posted, it looked better than i thought it would, perhaps not as good as FFXIV;ARR but more a difference in style rather than quality, i just wish the magic combat system used in the game was different, if so i would probably have remained subscribed to the game image

I am playing a Breton for the Ebonheart pact so you do get a choice. I usually tend to play imperials only but didn't buy the upgrade ;D

BEsides they are going to intrdouce spellcrafting which looks awesome and will align the spell system much more closely with the singleplayer TES games.

Yeah, that's still a concern for me. In general, I'm not a big raider or end-gamer. I play for the leveling experience and exploration. How's the crafting in the game?

Well hopefully with the first stage of the champion system coming in place next patch, hopefully you wont even have to deal with the... *shudders* veteran ranks. Actually you probably still will until update 7 when the veteran ranks are taken out 100%

Oh and crafting is awesome. Im a blacksmith, and i find it fun to craft different sets and then sell them to my guild.

Same for me as well.  Unless they have changed the en game significantly, there is no need for me to come back.

I have been playing since launch and will keep playing until something better comes out. It's far from boring and the graphics are hard to beat. You have 3 realms that you can explore and plenty of crafting. You can group or solo. I see nothing belter out there so until then this is it for me.  I recommend playing a Templar or a mage. Would be nice to have a real auction house instead of their guild sale system for the economy. Should have it open world also like in Darkfall.

Same boat as I was in early on.

The game mechanically is fundamentally flawed and it's enforced quirks and limitations that no amount of patching can get rid of. The engine just wasn't up to snuff on the kind of gameplay that the title really needed, and when the compromises were made in it's design it made those shortcomings more evident.

Unless they revamp the engine and the underlying mechanics of combat and other things, I can't see my opinion changing.

Way to be specific. I didn't get one piece of information out of all that. Not one.

I wasn't that impressed during beta but bought it at launch anyway. Played for a couple of weeks and wasn't having any fun so quit. I went back again a few months later and tried it again, still wasn't having any fun. Obviously the game is just not for me. Glad that others enjoy it.

I played about 6 months of beta with a great deal of anticipation. When it came time to launch however I did not feel that the game was ready and waited until just a few weeks ago to purchase the game at a discount and see for myself if it was worth a sub.

As an older more casual gamer who also happens to be a bit slower on the controls now, I have found a lot that I like about ESO. I was compelled to return after seeing how well Zenimax addressed the early release issues and its road-map for future development based on player feedback. I am especially looking forward to the Justice and Champion updates. And while I am no where near Veteran ranks I have heard a lot of positive feedback about the current state of end-game play and the updates that will be well on the way far before I arrive.

The voice acting is just so good. The NPC activity and quest interactions add to immersion like no other game I have played before. ESO has also brought world exploration to a new level with things to discover around every corner. As well the graphics, being very Skyrim-esque, are really phenomenal.

TBH I am probably not the best person to criticize the combat dynamics. I know this is an ongoing issue for many people, even those that currently enjoy the game. Recent updates have made the combat more responsive and for me this was my only issue. When I press a button, albeit slowly, I still expect a response. Apart from that I am happy with the skills offered. I don't spend my days working up spreadsheets to determine maximum output. I am happy being able to just kill stuff relative to my level without running from Wayshrines all day.

So I agree with the OP. If you have been on the fence this is probably a great time to try ESO given how cheap you can pick up this game now. If you are more of a power gamer you could wait for Update 6 which should provide an even more impressive path to end-game.
