The sheer number of  < month old ESO posters in this thread is hilarious.

Hard to predict: the new games beat the veterans... ...would be sad if otherwise, with 5+ years of better graphics, beter engines, better internet broadband at the worldwide level, new computers that allow more intricated gameplay (dodge, etc...), ... so sad if it would be otherwise.

Hello! Im a newbie poster on your forums. :)

Go ESO! But I can also testify that on the ESO launcher, there was a message to go vote on this website last week. It was only on there for a day then it went back to the old message.

For everyone considering getting this game, just wait until Feb.. I guarantee they are going to break stuff in this next huge patch with the justice system (It'll just be a turn off, lol) . A lot of us are unsure how they are going to handle converting our vet experience points to "champion points", and how thats going to change the end game. Perhaps once the kinks are worked out, it'll be great. I can't wait to attack and steal from NPCs in town, and run from the guards and players.

Oh NOES....the nubs on this site will have to deal with other people that play MMO's voting on a game...heaven forbid.  Thought this was just the home of Eve lovers and WoW haterz?
  • marcmymarcmy Member UncommonPosts: 95

ESO even though I just started playing LOTRO a bit again yesterday. ESO has potential, room to grow. As much as I love Middle Earth and have the fondest memories of LOTRO, no one can deny the game has gone downhill. LOTRO, BRING BACK RAIDS, and you'll see me and I'm sure tons others sub again.

Oh and EVE for Bronze because space is awesome and !@#$ zombie shooters!

Currently playing: Elder Scrolls Online, Elite: Dangerous | Recently played: FFXIV, Rift, LoTRO, Diablo 3, Path of Exile, Guild Wars 2 | Single player RPGs: Dragon Age Inquisition, Skyrim

I don't know of a launch that did not spawn a lot of hate. ESO is in no way special in the amount of hate it has gotten.  It's actually kinda mild compared to the hate TSW got at launch. If a game's actually got it the hate drops away after a while.

That just tells me you weren't paying attention to ESO between April 2013 - May 2014. I was there for the TSW launch and there was very little hate anywhere for it - some less than stellar reviews, yes, but gamers in general were very positive about it (and this site actually gave it one of the most positive reviews.) Its forum here was quite useful and mostly positive. And all that despite, as you know if you were there at launch, quite a few nasty little quest bugs that stopped you dead on your tracks unless you could find another instance of that area where the quest was working.

I have been involved in MMO launches since the 90's and to me the only other MMO that has gotten more hate around its launch (and in this case it was only after - not for months before as was the case for ESO) was Archeage.

I agree about TSW, great game.  The poster is obviously trolling for attention and here we are giving it.  I guess when you dont get your 15 minutes of fame, this is the next best thing.

I find it funny that so many people are abusing ZOS for advertising this contest, when Turbine are doing the exact same thing. I have seen this retweeted by Turbine and on LOTRO's Facebook page, I have not yet seen it advertised by ZOS personally. There seems to be a double standard involved where its fine for turbine but wrong for ZOS. Personally I play both games, I voted for ESO because the last 16 months of LOTRO's life has been abysmal as a player. They have pulled the financial plug and the game is suffering. LOTRO used to be my favorite MMO and deserved to win as many awards as possible, but not any more.

I remember it a bit different.  The staff was positive to TSW but the forum base was pretty toxic.  A few vocal's specifically took every opportunity to express just how "bad" the company, the combat and animations where with a lot of others supporting them to lesser degrees.  In truth the game did have a lot of issues at launch that really poisoned what should have been a excellent launch.  ESO and SWTOR are probably the two most toxic launches I can recall but most MMO's move from their honeymoon to piss all over phases pretty quick on this site.  I would say few if any even make it out of open beta these days.

Fair enough. Maybe I just didn't pay attention to the trolls. As I recall what negativity there was, usually brought up AOC and the "Tortage bait and switch: :)

I did notice a decrease in ESO trolling when Wildstar launched... they just got busy playing I guess... for a little while anyway.

And they all only have posts in this thread.

Wow, you sure don't like ESO.

I voted TSW and ESO. I haven't played either of them for quite a while so I didn't see any advertisement to come vote for them. Oddly enough I read articles on this site, one of which was this voting article. Not all ESO votes, or any other game you hate, are from the boogey man. Sometimes something you hate is loved by someone else and vice versa. It's called opinion.

I have a lifetime sub for Lotro but for me ESO just did a lot of stuff right to pull me into it. Personally I think Lotro should have been in the Veteran bracket and am a little surprised it made it this far even though I do like the game. Lotro is definitely an old-school type of MMO. It's great for what it is.. but it's old.

TSW vs EVE I voted TSW. I really like sc-fi, I really like the idea of flying my own ship, I really don't like how freaking slow EVE is though to play unless you spend a LOT of time in it. Sorry. I imagine if I was given an account with all those fancy ships and skills that I would love EVE, but it just bores me trying to get there. So many times have I tried getting into it because I love the idea of it. It just never works. :(

TSW is a great idea as well. I'm a Grandmaster for it, but something about the combat just doesn't sit right with me. The only reason it beat EVE for me is because I dislike TSW WAY less. Well, I don't really dislike TSW I guess, just don't like it as much as many other MMOs available to me.

These sort of voting articles are fun. It's kind of interesting to see how people will defend games they like as if it's their new born baby being attacked by a dingo, and then they'll attack a game they don't like as if that game is the dingo and the dingo DID eat their baby.

Voted ESO, my current mmo and the only one that grabed me for more than 2 months since WAR,

One of the best looking mmos out of there, with good combat, good quest, decent endgame pve, great character developement and ofc really nice pvp. Also next updates look promising,

Just 2 videos showing eso graphics, inmersion and beautiful zones/landscapes.

Yeah, how toxic anyone sees the hate is probably largely a function of how much you like a game. If you like it a lot it appears worse that it would to someone who did not care as much. Probably shouldn't have said the ESO hate was mild compared to the TSW hate. Both certainly got their share. I was not really speaking that much as to this site but rather more in general.

To the nice TSW people around:

    >> Is there any recommended streamers/youtubers to watch?

I've subscribed to J2JonJeremy on YouTube, but it seems he's just starting with the game. Nice fellow, very interesting to watch, and I'm currently waiting for his next video on the series.

But I'd be interested in watching end-game stuff too. I've searched but haven't reached a definitive answer.

As complement (don't know the best word to use here) I'll recommend you to these streamers for watching ESO content. Many of them have also Youtube channels to follow. These are the ones that I follow, so sorry if I leave anyone out that I don't know off. (All of them are in twitch)

    * Defatank: one of the best ESO streamers ATM (disclaimer: I'm subscribed to his channel,) very professional and entertaining. One of the best tanks I've seen yet. He's a very nice guy. He answers questions live and really knows about the game and its content. He even try to reason with the occasional troll that passes by :) and in some cases he has managed to "convert" some of those into nice persons :)

    * Deltiagaming: (Or Deltia, for short) Very passionate about the end-game content and he's one of the most prolific content makers at the moment. He has a site (deltiagaming dot com) that has multitude of guides/builds for people to get better at the game.

    * Erlexx: He's another very good streamer, who periodically runs end-game content and hard-mode dungeons. Also very interesting to watch and follow (again: I'm subscribed too.) and also answers questions and sometimes manages to interview some of the ZOS staff on stream.

All that I have wrote here, is totally my opinion, and biased one at that... anyone that wants, feel free to chime in and recommend your content makers too :)

Hope everyone has a happy new year, and enjoy your loved game, that's all that matters! :)

    Best wishes,
    Leeux

But, f2p is like  cancer...slowly it rotted out LoTRO from the inside out.  Took me a while to leave, I had to find a home first.

ESO is home.    TSW you also get my vote.

    Good luck finalist.

Hope you enjoy the f2p that will eventually becoming to ESO. Once they realize how much more income they will be making it won't be long till they jump on board. Then you won't have a home.

    Fuck your home.

Because f2p mmorpgs are making so much cash? Idk any f2p mmorpgs who made 111 mill in 6 months. ESO is most likely puching 150 mill if not over by now.

Yeah because lotro has done wonders financially since converting to F2P huh? You are the perfect example of the type of quality individual we find on F2P games.
