I used to play back when it was under SOE. Were those accounts transferred over or do I need to start a new account?

I played during beta and then maybe for a year after release. Game changed a lot in that time, so I'm interested in what this rebuild is like. Hopefully they pick a particular crowd and focus on it. PotBS' previous problems seemed to stem from trying to appease two very different audiences and, in the end, never really satisfying either. It has the potential to be a truly amazing game.

I have always had a special place in my heart for PotBS. But these guys has had a very rough start. Hopefully they can turn it around but Im sceptical. With 2-3 devs it wont be easy.

Have they changed the game at all or is it just someone handed them the keys and they turned the lights back on ?

For those who missed the account transfer period early this year (2013), I think it is now too late to retrieve your old SOE PoTBS accounts.

Don't waste your time or money.  It  is a awesome game but new company  is only squeezing it like a old sponge trying to milk that last dollar from it before they drop it. I feel sad for the loyal folks trying to keep it alive. But I see you on a sinking ship with the band playing oblivious to what Portalus real agenda is. TA store pay to win stuff changes in  a frantic pace trying to get that last dollar before the game folds completely. Did they ever get the Forums working? Last I saw even  the in game  support option was  disabled. That should tell you something. For me it's not so much the money but the time wasted when the owners know all along they will close shop  after scamming you for as much as you are gullible for.

I had my account transferred and it worked for a while now I can't log in or change password, looks like they lost it.

With no forum they had better pull the plug.

I enjoyed playing PotBS for a while a few years ago, so I decided to see what's happening with it now under Portalus, but I'm not sure what to think now, lol

You can create an account on the Portalus site, and they'll even send you a confirmation email. But there's no way to edit your info after that. There are only 3 links on the Account Management" screen:

    1. download game client
    2. download test client
    3. go to the Cash Shop

Portalus has had the game for over a year now.

Their own website for the game is the most basic of basic sites.

The original game website (http://www.burningsea.com/) only has a front page now that has said "Under Construction" for the last 13 months...

They haven't even removed or disabled the redundant buttons on the launcher like "Server Status", which just takes you to the first page of the old game website (now defunct).

But their last devblog does give an in-depth explanation of how they are re-designing the cannon crafting recipes...

    Economic Expansion 1 - Introduction

    <div html-block="" sqs-block-html"="" data-block-type="2" id="block-024230efd430c3d43a7d">

    Economic Expansion

I'm happy to announce the upcoming release of milestone 2.15 to the Test Server later this week! The primary focus of our latest update is the major upgrade we're giving to the game's economy, revamping and expanding all aspects of production in the Caribbean and on the high seas. The 2.15 patch will feature more than 30 new structures, hundreds of additional recipes and items, and the addition of a loot-based production process!

As with any change of this magnitude we want to assure that the transition for our players is as smooth as possible. To that end I’ll be publishing a series of posts in the coming weeks that give a tour of the new economy, with a focus on the major industries that players can engage in for profit and glory.

    Guide To The New Economy

    1 - Introduction (this post)

2 - Overview: The Resource Economy

    3 - Logging and Lumber

    4 - Agriculture and Textiles

5 - Mining and Metal Working

    6 - Provisioning and Shipbuilding

7 - Overview: The Loot Economy

    8 - Exchange Structures

    9 - On The Horizon

Basic Features of the Economic Expansion

While many features of the expansion will be covered in greater detail in subsequent posts there are a few concepts that apply to all segments of the economy. Some of the general new features include:

    Port Resource Expansion

In addition to broadening the variety of resources available at many ports throughout the Caribbean the game will feature entirely new resources that support further production options and create more markets to capture.

    Partner Structures

Like the Partner recipes for ships such as the Hector, Partner structure may be purchased from Treasure Aisle as deeds. These structures are a convenient way to quickly setup a profitable business in any of the Caribbean's major industries.

Because Partner structures are specialized for a particular industry they have highly efficient production capability for limited structure slot usage. However while Partner structures have higher output than basic structures, they also have noticeably higher maintenance requirements.

NPCs Trade In Materials and Manufactured Goods

There are new NPC buyers being added that represent European buyers of materials and goods as well as regional buyers who often purchase materials and goods not desired by European markets. This addition allows players a market where they can be assured of sales of certain materials or goods at slightly above cost prices.

Some materials and goods will only be found as loot from prizes taken at sea or from special NPCs. These items are predominantly intended for the loot economy but there are a few that are used in the resource economy to produce very high end items.

Goods and Materials Required for Structure Upkeep

By more accurately portraying the maintenance requirements of production facilities we are expanding the economy's breadth beyond the narrow focus of shipbuilding. This opens new markets for captains of industry and startups alike.

    Weights and Stack Limits

Stack limits and weights continue to be adjusted to accommodate a greater focus on the manner in which materials are shipped and stored.

    Get Ready

We invite you to check out all of these changes and more in the coming weeks as we roll out 2.15 on the Test Server and onto Antigua and Roberts in early May.

To provide enough opportunity for captains to become acquainted and to present feedback to us and the community we are releasing features to the Test Server over a two week period. The first week's build is focused on the resource economy while the second week's will add the loot economy features.

I hope that you are as excited by these developments as myself. I look forward to reading your comments and feedback from the Test Server!

Played PotBS from early access to a year after go live.... No game that I've played since had such great potential yet was so hampered by poor design choices. Unless some major changes have happened to the port capture system, not worth coming back to in my opinion.

I played this and loved it back in 08 to 09 and recently Ive tried to play for 2 years now, issues with SOE, then played a little after portulus took over but then couldnt get in the game so gave up. Not even sure if my install is worth trying to log in anymore.

Bring back the forums or else, IMO. With no information on how to get in, and no chat with all those who have backed this game since beta and we all know each other, then whats the point in even trying?

The guys are legendary for the simple act they got control of the game from Sony's greedy hands.

Yet, are too incompetent to do a simple thing like keep their players informed over how to get the game running-  or even run a forum or social media.

Ahh well the game is dated. Its 2015 yall, if it aint got its shit together by now...  then maybe it wasnt meant to be [mod edit]....

Yes. The basic PvP mechanism is to create conflict around a port, which causes a red PvP circle around the port. Anyone sailing in the PvP zone can be attacked. Loot can be recovered if you sink the enemy, although there are some ways to limit how much is lost. Also, you can bribe the attacker not to loot you.

A common situation was to create a PvP zone around a competitor's main trade port, so that any ships going in or out are subject to being attacked.
