I'm currently stuck in MMO limbo, unsure of what to play. I log into FFXIV now and then, but nothing really grabs me.
I want a game that I can get fully immersed in, and progression feels rewarding. It's like navigating through a minefield when attempting to search up reviews of the game, as a lot of the reviews are from way back when it launched.
So, I'm coming to those who love and still play the game. What is it you like about it? This isn't a thread for those who dislike it, as I've heard those arguments plenty. I'd like to hear from the genuinely involved players of this game to know just what it is that keeps you subscribed.
Well OP, have people written enough to describe why we love and still play the game? Is there something you wish we touched upon that wasn't covered?
Kyleran: "Now there's the real trick, learning to accept and enjoy a game for what
it offers rather than pass on what might be a great playing experience
because it lacks a few features you prefer."
John Henry Newman: "A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault."
FreddyNoNose: "A good game needs no defense; a bad game has no defense." "Easily digested content is just as easily forgotten."
LacedOpium: "So the question that begs to be asked is, if you are not interested in
the game mechanics that define the MMORPG genre, then why are you
playing an MMORPG?"
Well I just bought it and I'm having loads of fun. Just messing around and doing the quests, getting really immersed in the world and most of the quests are interesting which is what I want from an MMO.
No comment on endgame, but the value of the content even if I only play a couple months is pretty damn good. I say go for it. If you want a cool new world to explore it's right here.
Edit: The community is mostly mature and positive too, I think most of the negative people were driven away by all the bad reviews and shit-talking it got at release. Those types want to play what's cool it seems.

That is something I forgot to mention. The community in this game is really cool and that counts for allot!

Yes because that is such an important aspect of any mmo.
Why are you dismissing my opinion and want? What does it matter to you? Why can't you answer the question truthfully? If its not such an important aspect why not just skip over it and pay it no mind? I never said it was the most important aspect its just one im curious about.

I did answer the question with a yes and I added how important it is that this was happening.
As a hardcore PVPer who cares very little for other things in the game, how well does this hold up? Is the PVP very alive? How well does it compare to other games? How much skill based is it? Any P2W shit? And so on...

No P2W shit...it's sub only. The one thing you might not like is that you will need to pop over to the PVE side of things to level because XP gain in PVP currently sucks (although they're saying it will be as as fast PVE after the next update... we'll see.)
The game has 4 classes that are basically just a starting point since everyone can use and train all armor, weapons, fighters guild and mage's guild skill lines (with thief's and Dark Brotherhood coming) as well as vampire or werewolf skills + 2 PVP only skill lines. People are always coming up with new builds and, as is always the case, there will be flavors of the month that get nerfed and other builds become the new thing. It's pretty good at the moment now that vampires, Dragon Knights and sorcerers have been nerfed some. Lots of different builds work well now.
PVP is great but you're confined to one zone. It IS a humongous zone though that even has some PVE in it including a few small open world dungeons. Solo PVP (everyone has stealth but only while walking and limited by your stamina pool), small group PVP and large scale PVP with siege weapons and castle sieges are all there in the same place. It's up to the players what happens there and when it happens. I've never gone there and been bored - there's always something going on.
I hate small scale scenario timed PVP but love PVP otherwise. This 24/7 persistent PVP is right up my alley. The two games it most closely resembles for PVP are GW2 and Dark Age of Camelot and IMHO, this PVP is better.

First of all, there is ZERO P2W shit. ESO has no cash shop.
Currently the PvP is all called AvA ( Alliance versus Alliance ) and it is three faction that takes place in Cyrodiil. Cyrodiil has a few campaigns, though only one of them, Thornblade, is very alive. The other PvP campaigns are usually dominated by one alliance who use them as buff servers.
You can begin doing PvP at level 10 and there is one campaign that is restricted to players under level 50. That campaign is called Blackwater.
Like many MMO siege games, people will zerg and some people will go off and roam and gank. There is also some PvE content where people can hunt players trying to do some PvE objectives in Cyrodiil.
Currently it takes quite a lot of PvE to reach max level, so many PvPers spend more time leveling up than they would like. But this will be improving 2 patches from now when veteran ranks are eliminated.
Lots of PvPers are eagerly awaiting the Justice System where you can opt in and choose to be an outlaw or an enforcer.

I'm just like you man. PvP is all I do. I mean I care about the lore, and skills to pvp with lol. That's about it though.
Quick snip to give you an idea of the scope of battles in Cyrodiil. This is at Fort Aleswell Farm. This is one battle on one tiny spot on the map. You see those little symbols around the keeps. This battle was at one of those.
I forgot to mention that I am a EU, if the situation is different there... I guess I might give it a shot soon, it is fairly cheap to pick up now after all.

Piece of advice: Nobody you know, (or don't know in this case), can convince you to enjoy anything. You have to, you know, try it?
It could very well have many updates and if you play it you might still find it dog shit. It could be that you try it and get hooked on some aspect that no one here mentions...
The thing is: try it, it's no ones job to sell it to you, the info is about and if money's that tight then you shouldn't be worrying about what game to play anyway.

Plus he should pay us to do the job of selling.

Zero gold-spammers..
It may not be extremely important, but hell.. I've never played an MMO with absolutely no gold-spammers.
