We posted to our forums and sent out an email to those who have signed up to test with us, as well as offering the extra incentive of letting in 25 new testers. Sorry if some of you find that sinister, we are just taking advantage of an opportunity to get some exposure by nudging our fans over here
Ah, so you admit to paying/providing an incentive to people to come here and vote. That's a violation of this sites Rules of Conduct and may void those votes.
In regards to game ratings and hype-meter voting, we reserve the right to remove unfairly obtained votes and, as needed, suspend voting on games deemed to have been given unfair votes. The amount of time voting will be suspended is dependent upon how long MMORPG.com believes it will take before fair voting will again occur.
In the case of ratings and hype-meter votes, "unfair votes" are determined by MMORPG.com staff and specifically include (but are not limited to):
Those solicited by game companies asking for a particular rating ("go rate our game a 10").
Those solicited by game companies offering any kind of compensation or contest.
Those registered by single users under multiple accounts.
Referral links and reverse referral links are also not permitted and any posts found to violate these rules may be removed.
Seems to me what ESO did with the face-off polls.
My opinion is my own. I respect all other opinions and views equally, but keep in mind that my opinion will always be the best for me. That's why it's my opinion.
If it is deemed that is the case, then hey, it would be my mistake and I would apologise to Bill. We give out alpha keys in semi-regular batches depending on how many tests we are running, how populated recent tests have been etc. etc. My point being that no-one has been given anything we weren't distributing free of charge. I told our community that we were giving away 25 keys to celebrate being nominated, and would give them to people who emailed me saying they had mentioned us as their most anticipated in the comments. To get super technical, all I told them to do was 'vote' in general, although I did say to comment with us as most anticipated.
It is what it is, and as I said, if MMORPG.com have an issue with it, then I have goofed and would apologise to them, but I would rather that than sit back and have people read the comments and think that we are some shady company buying votes from click providers or dummy accounts as some were theorizing. We are a small studio, and were not going to win against larger names who are further along in development. I simply saw an opportunity to get more eyes on our game, and gave a shout out to our very supportive but small community - which to be honest is what most of these games will be doing, although perhaps more politically than myself.
With all that said, I hope I have at least given some assurance to our integrity as developers, if not that we are creating an anticipated game- although I would hope people would give it a fair chance by checking out our website.
Actually all ESO did was put a link to mmorpg.com and did not tell players to give a particular rating in the ratings for their game page on MMORPG. They didn't offer any incentive to vote for the Face-Off contest either.
I disgree seanvwolf.... a certain small vocal minority of the TSO community encouraged creating multiple accounts and ballot stuffing under the guise of "everyone else is doing it". If you read the threads on the ESO forums you can see the evidence of this (unless of course those members have gone back and edited their posts retrospectively)
Interestingly, William Murphy has said that this is a legitimate tactic that although dishonest is allowed (I guess they just love the extra ad revenue from all those extra accounts)
Although these popularity contests should just be a bit of fun, some members take things a little too seriously and act like dicks.
These polls, across all the sites, are just pointless. Some of these dev are just leading people here to vote. I totally understand why they do it, to gain exposure.
Do I blame them? NO. This is their living, income and to support their family.

What does that have to do with ESO? That is the community membership, not the game maker nor the publisher.
I have heard of nearly all of the games on these lists, but to be honest, in my opinion the only one here even worth talking about is SOTA.
The only reason I did not vote for any in the first 3 is because I have not actually played any of them myself (or in the case of most improved, recently).
I did play SWTOR, Warframe and Star Trek Online but just not in quite some time so I cannot really comment.
I mean, i don't play many of these games. So is this just a "pick what you play currently" like the most improved, i have no idea I stopped playing a long time ago. I guess log in?
idk seems like a "choose what you play now, or have heard of"
Let me say something here, I don't play FFXIV anymore because I wasn't happy with certain aspects of the skill/combat system. But I think it's completely unfair to see that FFXIV is being continually discriminated against. Not only was it put up against Guild Wars 2 in round 1 of the Face-Off, which of course is everybody's favorite, now it is being excluded from Most Improved list. I feel that there is bias against FFXIV on this site by the editors, and I'm not liking that. Not that I'm championing FFXIV, because as I said I'm not even playing the game currently, but I believe fair is fair and therefore it should be on this list as well. That is all.
Currently playing: Elder Scrolls Online, Elite: Dangerous | Recently played: FFXIV, Rift, LoTRO, Diablo 3, Path of Exile, Guild Wars 2 | Single player RPGs: Dragon Age Inquisition, Skyrim
I don't understand why everyone in anticipating EQN so much. They have barely touched the surface with the community about the game or mechanics (Yes, I've watched all the videos and read several articles). All they have talked about is promised concepts. I use to be hugely hyped for EQN but something tells me it might just end up just like SWToR. Especially with how bad SoE is with cash shops.
I've been playing Black Desert K-OBT and it is simply amazing and incredibly immersive. Its so awesome to see a company that isn't scared to bring back old school hardcore mmo elements back into the modern gaming world and fuse them with the new. No instant travel, No instanced dungeons, legitimate Death penalties and karma penalties which affects item loss. A game that finally doesn't lean towards a casual fanbase. A game that finally doesn't extend 8 hands towards the player.
Although, I'm sure many north american players will cry hard about the difficulty and time consumption the game takes because all NA players want these days is instant gratification and repetitive instanced dungeon grinding for purple items.
Anyway, Black Desert in my opinion, Makes every MMO I've ever played feel so ancient and outdated. It feels fresh, new, and unique. I definitely can't say that with the 10 + MMO's that I've given a chance.
Marvel Heroes is an MMO, it is an MMOARPG. It is not Diablo 3 , where you only see other players if you invite them from a lobby. It has every right to be on the list as the MMO Shooters like Firefall, Planetside or Warframe.

MMO = Massively Multiplayer Online.
It would seem Marvel Heroes and Witcher 3 have their respective categories "in the bag."
