Is this for me?

Played at launch and quit shortly after that. Came back a year ago, also quit very quickly. Maybe I was looking at it the wrong way?

The issue I had is that it takes soo long to get new skills, so the rotation in combat is always the same. No variation. Just spam the same keys in the same order over and over and over...

Has something changed in this regard? If not, how is it possible that a game with such a simplistic combat is always top of the charts?

I understand the setting is awesome, innovative quests, story, etc etc. But what you do 80% of the time is combat. If 80% is repetitive to the point of mental breakdowns, why keep doing it?

Thanks for your insights!

EDIT: giving a free trial key with 30 days of sub to the one with the most helpful answer!

Pretty much the same discussion. Also, I think those buddy keys do not add sub time, but must be used on a new account, and I've played it plenty, don't need yours.

It's hard to know exactly what you are doing that is resulting in you feeling stuck with the same deck, but here's some general tips:

    1. Make sure you are equipping 2 weapons - you will build up resources twice as quickly.  One weapon is gimping yourself.
    2. Make sure you are synergizing the conditions being triggered by actives.  Find passives that exploit active conditions.
    3. Use the Search panel to the right of the wheel to search on conditions in other abilities.  Buy and equip ones that are not too expensive and switch up your deck.
    4. Remember that you can equip a passive from ANY weapon branch, not just your 2 equipped.
    5. Understand that you can unlock all weapons and skills and and that you can create multiple decks - use the Gear Manager under (C) to swap in and out.  Keep tweaking your decks - it's all about incremental improvements.
    6. Read up on the TSW forums and the many other deck guides on the web for example decks (tswdb.com is a good one to start).  Google "yokai tsw build guide" for more in-depth theory
    7. Keep buying skills for your 2 weapons with SP under (K) so you can equip better QL gear
    8. In chat, type /chat join Sanctuary and ask lots of questions.  Lots of helpful people in-game.
    Good luck!
