I don't think ESO is going to be making any announcement concerning the payment model anytime soon. They effectively dodged the question at the ESO live, which was overall disappointing I might add. It's easy for someone to say "my friend's friend know someone who knows someone who works at blah blah and ZOMG F2P IS COMING!". It's all just rumors right now and I wouldn't pay any mind to them.
That said, I don't think ESO will be going B2P/F2P. I think they're doing pretty good with subs atm, far better than some peoples predictions, and have no reason to make such a change just yet. If they do in the future, I would expect them to go B2P, NOT F2P, simply because F2P will open the doors for trolls, bots, and all the issues they've been trying to deal with until now.
That said, there's also a couple links to the support FAQs that seem to indicate that the game will not be changing its model:
Ex. A was updated on Dec 30th. Ex. B was updated on Jan 14th. I suppose you could argue this doesn't mean anything, but for now it's good enough for me.

Why is everyone assuming that he meant it as if the game is going F2P?
If you put your fanboism aside, you will come to the conclusion that there are other explanations. Maybe they will give a free period for old subs to give them the chacne to re-try the game? it has happened before with other games and maybe it will with ESO as the game has improved alot since release.
Also, the whole F2P rumors are the company's fault. While some of the biggest gaming sites started to write articles about a possible F2P model, Zenimax didn't bother to give a straight explanation to kill all the rumors. Not that ESO will go free to play but the fact that Zenimax has beena avoiding all F2P questions lately is suspicious and more people will probably start to wonder if Zenimax actually has the F2P/B2P model as an option in the near future.

Well, I think he alluded to it and was deliberately not being specific in order to rile people up.

There is no announcement. I highly doubt the game will be going B2P or F2P anytime soon. I believe the game is enjoying a healthy playerbase atm and console is right around the corner.
These rumors have swelled since before the game even released. It's really become a tiresome topic.
Why is everyone assuming that he meant it as if the game is going F2P?
I'm not assuming that, because it makes no sense to go F2P and give up the console box sales. I was just pointng out that we are stilling waiting for some kind of big announcement that he stated was coming this week.

So where is the big announcement?

Doesn't work because they just delete their account and come back as an alt.
Something is cooking. Before ESO Live many asked the devs on the official forums to address the concerns and when ESO live was streamed nothing about the subject was mentioned. If there is no change, they could have stated "we are not gonna change the sub model". Instead, the silence appears to be suspicious, imho.

Stages of a new mmo: 1) It's just beta. It still has plenty of time before release. 2) It just launched. Give it time. WoW wasn't built in a day. 3) We don't need you anyway. 4) F2P announced. 5)Huge influx of players. 6) Look how much has changed. 7) Cash shop is the only thing developed lately. 8) It has been a long journey and we thank everyone who was part of it. Shutting down in 3 months. (Courtesy of Robokapp.)

"Heh - I made a thread on ESO going B2P yesterday - lots of folks calling me names etc... the usual lol (love my haters)
Bill says the same thing a day later - and the folks are doing a complete 180.
Lol - gotta love that.
But yes ESO is going B2P - consoles MMOs + subs is a bad combination.
Incoming announcement in about 3 days from Zenimax - stay tuned for that"
Mind you, he got at least the date wrong ("3 days from now" meaning last Tuesday) so he may also have gotten everything else wrong.

Devs dont make the pay model so they have nothing to say about it beyind what has already been said AND updated. Its a SUBSCRIPTION game with no plans to change that. PC version anyway. I suspect console version will also be sub as well they just have to work it out with the company that wont waive their personal sub fee. One has one hasnt.
Theyre not hurting for money because if they were they would just release the consoles as B2P on both (thus eating the sub fee but not pissing off either company) and sell a few million console versions at 60 bux per. Console version is money in the bank and the ONLY reason a company goes Free to play is for the money. Switching the PC version to B2P would be a really stupid thing to do when they have the console version and sales in hand, and why DMKano continues to prove he is just a clueless fanboi that doesnt know shit about anything. Yet because he posts on every game forum on this site and has a million posts people give him some sort of credibility. Go read all his posts about Archeage you might learn something about how deluded the guy is.
IMO he should be perma banned if nothing happens in the way he has been spewing h is nonsense the past few weeks. Whether he comes back as someone else is irrelevant that name and its 'rep' will be gone.

Yeah, it's the end of the "big announcement week" and nothing.
Business as usual. ESO continues to thrive in spite of all the cheapskates that want to play for free (and ACTUALLY think Free means Free in a F2P game.. *boggle*).
Why anyone would *want* a game to go F2P is beyond me.. I dunno, maybe they don't get a big enough allowance?
Even though I don't want this game to change its payment plan It's always possible that a game company will reassess how it it gets paid as their game gets older.
As far as DMKano's post, there are several things to consider ..
1, complete troll post. In truth I somewhat doubt this. There is a difference between saying things to incite argument and outright lying. Over the time he has posted i never got that he was a liar. In truth, I think whenever he says something he believes it.
2, he spoke to someone, not an actual friend (though in this day and age people seem to consider anyone they talk to in passing a few times "a friend") and someone who misunderstood what was to happen.
3, regardless if whether this was a friend or not, just because a company (for argument's sake) says that it will change its payment plan next week, doesn't mean that they will have all the pieces in place to do it.
I've worked for large companies before (and do now) and though there are times that things are supposed to happen, the very well could change the timeline for those things quite suddenly.
So what I mean to say by that is DMKano might very well talked to someone who actually did have knowledge of this payment plan change but was not one of the higher ups and not privy to any changes in rolling out a new payment plan.
I suppose what one must learn from this is never make definitive statements unless you are absolutely sure.

Trolling a troll ( if you think that) is still trolling.
And most likely he believed what he wrote. But since he does not have first hand knowledge, it was a rumour. Which is why the post went away.
As did the last post that had this type of post, as this one will i am thinking.
