I think it is brilliant . See people do not want to pay for games so you get to pay for content and you create content by allowing PvP for the drop you paid for in real cash. Absolutely brilliant idea.
I agree it's not P2W but it's a sad day for gaming when a short in-game event is hidden behind a paywall. I'm just wondering what content will be next.

If the game/server has open pvp, then yes it can be major, if the game/server is pve only, I don't see much of a point to the airdrops. Its not like you cannot just club the zombies to death. However the gun drops on a open pvp server will break the balance, not to mention the people qqing who bought the tickets only to get ganked and have all the stuff they bought with rl cash get stolen. I am not sure exactly how the game works. In terms of what you drop on death etc.
Pay2win is so effective because there is always the "I gutta be teh bestsss" retards that will spend a ton of money for a small advantage over someone else. I've seen it many times.
Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:
A. Proven right (if something bad happens)
or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)
People spending money without any research and then complaining about what they get are always hilarious...and sadly also completely stupid.

I tried but I could not watch it full, just can't...
I really can't see why would anyone wasted their time on video like this - just ranting and cursing, there is nothing about the video that would constitute for a review.

LOL, my favorite part is when he talks about the two *free* crates you get when you purchase the starter pack but you only get one key and need to purchase a second key in order to open the second crate. I wonder if airdropped crates also require a key... buys crate to save ass in battle... discovers they don't have a key to open it... doh!

Having crates and keys seperate items makes sense because each can be obtained in different ways.
Nothing wrong with that. But then, the guy from video isn't partcularly bright, and he makes it clear with his language and "review" content, or the lack of.

It's either going to be pay-to-win or not worth paying for. Even if it ends up being the latter, it'll still give the game a stigma of Pay-to-win in a lot of peoples' eyes (actually, as you can see by this thread, it already has!).
Thus, regardless of whether it's P2W or not, it was a pretty terrible PR move to include it in the cash shop. Whether or not it'll be a profitable move I can't say without actual sales numbers which we'll obviously never get, of course.
If the world is as big as the devs have previously stated, what's stopping someone from simply going where people aren't and just gathering the drop? By the time others get close to you, you've already armed yourself with the box's contents.
If the air drops are actually spread out enough and random enough to work as community events, why would someone pay money to just give away guns and ammo? If it's so easy for anyone else to get them, how are airdrops not a total waste of money?
If people keep using these air drops, what happens to all these weapons if they never get removed from the server? After a couple of months the servers will be filled with weapons lying around everywhere and some people will have a stash that can rival a small army.

The game still looks like a game from 2005 and you can beat deer to death with a stick, in a survival game. REALLY? It's just bad, even for an Alpha. A 5 year old can make better textures with his smartphone. There are so many fundamental things wrong with this game.
I know, the apologists will come and tell me it's early access and it will be glorious IF it reaches final. I doubt that and on the off chance i might be wrong i will now say that this game will NEVER reach a final state that looks significantly better than what you have now.
Well, I agree that it's not P2W although can kinda see how you get there. There is some concern with how they will balance it but in the end, I don't really understand all the hate. The airdrops are fun events and I would prefer them not to be behind a pay wall but then again it really doesn't matter to me. So far, there is no worry of someone being "the badass" or whatever with the best gear. A guy with a makeshift bow can kill you in 1-2 well aimed hits no matter what weapons you have, especially if they know how to stay quiet, aim and be patient. You die way to quickly and easily in this game to ever think that paying for an airdrop is going to make you the best on your server in terms of supplies. The skillful won't need the guns anyway, they'll stay with silent weapons and take your crap.
Hell, half the time, having a gun is as much a disadvantage as it is an advantage. Sure you might be able to kill players or zombies quicker but you also alert all zombies and players to where you are and what you have, at least to a point. Personally, it's a hard enough task staying alive without having a powerful weapon that brings more challenges to you and puts a bullseye on your back.
I also think it's ok to pay for this. Sure I would prefer to not have to pay for it but you get enough PVP n PVE from just being in the world. It's hard to even be near a road or any sign of civilization and not get into some kinda fight with someone. I don't even think it's shady either, you know you can get an airdrop, that it will not drop right on you or into your inventory. You know others can hear and see it and possibly more zombies and a chance you won't get whatevers in it. You can calm me naïve, ignorant or whatever else. The system seems fun and brings in an added aspect to the game. I have a friend I'm playing with and on our server we're gonna try one tonight and see how it goes.
It can easily be made P2W and that does concern me. However I'm willing to give SOE some time to figure out how they want to make it and then make my decision.

You can quote me on that.
Some will run but many will just stand there and let you beat them to death with your bare hands,,quite realistic .../sigh.
They really have no business calling it a survival game other than needing food and drink at an unrealistic pace. You could play for 20 years and not die once, the Zombie Ai is lol and the animals seem to work on the same AI.Wolves like Zombies will walk up to you and just stare at you,VERY few in game will actually attack.
As for the other creature i noticed bears,i never saw any players fighting them, the bears just seem to be walking on a predetermined path and don't care much about anything else.
I have played some games that look much better before 2005,i would not be least surprised if Soe has been rehashign the orginal EQ engine in all their games with some updating of course for newer .dll and able ot handle larger texture sizes ect ect,but i bet it is the same engine.
I happen to drop into Planetside 2 and i saw the exact same rubbish,SOE puts VERY little effort into assets anymore, their game worlds seem almost barren,so go figure their newest efforts Landmark revolved around an empty world.Soe as over last few years has been selling gimmicks and not complete games or expansion packs, they have become a real cheap developer.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Does not work like that, it will drop somewhere by you but you dont know where. You will see the event in the sky but so will everyone else within a few miles of the game. The event spawns zombies and also the noise pulls zombies from the area. Plus any player can take your air drop items. So the event is 1/2 PvP and 1/2 PvE. Now your fighting zombies and players to get to the crates. You can only start the event if your server has a good population. So how is this pay to win? More like pay to start a poop storm.
Doesn't really matter who gets the items. Player pays money and somebody gets an advantage. Another way to look at the situation is how is this any different from a typical microtransaction game that has PvP and full loot?
The only difference is that the player that bought the "cash shop item of pwnage " doesn't have to die first to lose it.

That is the weakest arguement for pay2win i have ever heard.

Yeah putting a pay-gate on 'fun' content like a pvp event is a brilliant idea.
Want to loot this house? Sorry gotta buy a key from the cash shop.
Want to use this special new weapon? Sorry gotta buy the licence from the cash shop.
Want to drive that cool new tank? Sorry only if you spend first.
This is where pay-gates for content will go. Slicing up all of the game content and getting you to pay for everything classic nickle and dimeing BS.
Having unlimited air-drops if you spend cash also makes zero sense in a survival game where the entire point is to struggle to get gear.

Actually, it makes dollars.
It cost dollars to make the game too.

Thanks for posting this.
Any thought I had of spending time or money on this game just ended.
It was just a big Counter Strike, gank-and-grief game anyway with animals, plants, zombies, and buildings as decorations.
