GW2 - still casual friendly or not ?

kasyoskasyos Member UncommonPosts: 23

Hi.

Last time I was playing GW2 was when fractals were introduced.

Unfortunatelly I didn't and don't have a time to  run them like 20 times a day like some other people with perhaps less real life commitments.

On top of that, I was going to do more PVP but my PC at the time needed upgrade and couldn't cope with a lot of players on screen at the same time.

So, I have moved on to play something else .

I'm thinking about coming back to GW2, just wondering how casual players friendly it is now, is it still fun to play or have they introduced something that ruined it ?

I know somebody can say "google it" but I'd rather have some fresh opinions from people that have been playing for long and are still in it.

THank you

Ascended armour and weapons are probably new to you.   Crafting ascended requires massive grinding or spending to gather the mats and crafters capable of making them.  Ascended gear is only marginally better than exotic though, a few percentage points.  With respect to wvw there are some fairly marginal benefits from rank through wvw stat point allocation.  In pvp you should find yourself being matched with people with similar ability and identical access to builds/stats for all players.

Disclaimer I haven't played the game in a while either, megaserver and boss scheduling really damaged the game imo.

What is this boss scheduling you have mentioned ?

Previously bosses had a "window" where the event might begin and a set amount of downtime before the next window.  The so-called feature patch put events on a fixed schedule http://dulfy.net/2014/04/15/gw2-world-boss-schedule/ meaning that now there is a 15 minute downtime between events and if you don't play the game at certain times of day you are basically out of luck for certain events.

A big part of my pve play was running events with the guild, we had far more control over events, some players would push pre events so we could orchestrate when events began in periods of downtime between event windows.  Basically server would work together to do as many events as quickly as possible.  With event boss scheduling and megaserver every event is a zerg auto fire 1 until event is over then wait 15 minutes for another.  Before the change guild will probably run 3-4 events in 15 minutes.  Changes basically ruined this style of play, while windows were not spontaneous they seemed far more organic and engaging than 15 minute schedules.

@op, there's no runaway gear/power curve so ths game is as casual friendly as ever.

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

Still casual friendly I think... Even more so for new characters, with extra "tooltips" and stuff - but that's not for you.

If you bought it already OP then just jump back in and find out yourself. It seems you could set aside an hour of your busy day and just find out for yourself.

I'm not trying to be an asshat or snarky, but seeing is believing. Folks here are probably the last I would ask (no offense mmorpg members). As Tommy Boy would say, "I can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking my head up a bull's ass, but I'd rather take a butcher's word for it." Make sure you are the butcher and take a look, after all, you own it.

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

It's slightly less casual friendly due to the trait rework. You have to "earn" traits now by doing tasks that are often time-gated, tedious or simply bugged. Your old characters will have most of their traits unlocked, however, so you won't have to suffer through the "improved" system if you use them.
