HI guys, I am interested in this game for awhile but I've been hearing conflicting opinions on this game such as they changed it too much or its gone down hill. Was wondering if you guys think its worth spending my time going through it?
I haven't played it for a while, but that said, I played it for over a year and it is really a lot of fun to run a few characters up to max level. It's a very interesting, dynamic world with a lot of great exploration and group play. It does suffer a bit from the lack of tiered end-game in my opinion, but you'll get a lot of very polarized opinions on that one.
Definitely it is worth getting into if you enjoy Medieval styled MMORPGs. You'll get a whole ton of fun out of the entrance price.

GW2 is fantasy MMO just like WoW, Rift, FFXIV, etc... Medieval, lmao.
I would say its worth it, if, like me you enjoy trying new games. I have come back to it twice over the course of its 2+ years.. and each time I come back theres something a little new... even if it is just balance changes or a different area.
I mean, you aren't paying monthly and they had the whole 10 dollars deal over the weekend.. and hopefully its still going on. Thats just about as close as you'll get to getting it for free aside from when they bundle it with expansion packs in the future.
It's one of those MMOs you can't really form an opinion about until you've played it. The first three months, this was the BEST thing that I'd ever played since my first MMO experience (Asheron's Call). It did fall flat after that for me but I think the reason was no matchmaking for endgame content (has that been changed yet? I'll check it out again if it has).
You're not an MMO player if you haven't had a good try of GW2.. just got to experience it. The dynamic events 'are' next gen. To me, GW2 and Rift have paved the way for how the next generation of MMOs should be.. sadly though, all the new MMOs seem to be ignoring what these two game did absolutely right and are just going the same direction as WoW again.
Edit: I will be buying the expansion
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
I really liked GW1 and also think GW2 is a very good game. It just didn't turn out into a game that I prefer to play. I can go into detail as why I didn't like the direction the dev team took with GW2, but I am too lazy to type that all out lol.
Anyway, if you are interested in GW2 based on what you read and saw about how the game is now, then I think it is a good bet that you will at least get a decent amount of fun out of it. If I knew what the dev team would do after release, I would not have bought it (I think anyway, I was quite the Arenanet fan before GW2 was released, so who knows)
While I am one of the players who feels it has gone downhill, you will be getting an incredible deal for the amount of content you get. It is a very action oriented MMORPG and the "no quests all events" approach is really fun and fresh. Levelling up in this game I never felt like I was grinding or anything similar. I would go through the zones, trying to get 100% completion (which is fun and a good idea to do), and just do any events that popped up that sounded fun. I really enjoyed the whole feeling of not needing a plan for levelling but rather just exploring and enjoying the world, taking what it gives you.
Even with the disappointing parts of the game, even with the things I felt they changed for the worse, even with the developers making me feel like they did not have an understanding of their own game, GW2 is still worth it. It is a large amount of content, it is fun, and it has some really unique ideas.
Buy it, but buy it on sale if possible. It just went on a great sale and I bet you will find some other great sales on it with the expansion just announced.
GW2 fails as an MMO in every conceivable way for me .... is it worth the 10$ mehhh maybe .. is it worth the time invested ................. NO
Much better options out there to invest time in an MMO
GW2 was never supposed to be your traditional MMO though, so that's probably why you didn't like it, unless you're referring to other reasons?
@OP, it's only worth it if you think you'll like something different than your average themepark MMO, although it's still a themepark in many respects.
For one, the combat is different. Secondly, it focuses on story a lot, especially end-game. Lastly, there isn't much progression if you like acquiring tiered gear.
I would suggest watching some videos on youtube first.
Ofc the game is worth $10 of so, thats going to give you a hundred hours of fresh content and exploration with instances and pvp on top before you even hit max level.

deciding based on other peoples opinions isnt always good. Heard them all, but unless you can get to play it yourself (i thought they had a free trial?) you might miss on a great game, or you might buy a game you personally end up not liking that much.
I love it, its a great game, but its different from the pack and not for every one. But its one of the best options if you want to play at your own pace and not fall behind if your friends keep going without you.
I saw the footage of the demos available in 2011 and knew then and there I would like to play GW2.
Before that I was quite happy playing GW1 and had almost no interest in GW2 since it seemed it would be a more traditional MMORPG.
GW2 is very different from GW1 so for people simply wanting a more modern GW1 experience they will not be getting it.
But for some one like me that like to go out in the world , explore and do "quests" it is great. I have low interest for dungeons and raids and all the "progression" associated with it.
Currently playing: GW2 Going cardboard starter kit: Ticket to ride, Pandemic, Carcassonne, Dominion, 7 Wonders
Its a B2P game with a fair cash shop. I played beta and 6 months into live. I have played on and off since I stopped playing it as my main game. IMO, its worth the fun of exploring even if its just for a few months. The PvP is in my top 5 of all MMOs I played and the main reason I still log in. The living story was a big reason I grew to hate this game but they seem to be changing that for the better, maybe. The game often goes on sale for 19.99-30 bucks. Its so worth that and more.
I bought in to this game during the last sale and have to admit... I don't see the attraction. I mean, I can understand how people can like it, it just doesn't strike that chord with me. I like the movement, fluidity, freedom to and targeting combat. But every time I'd look at the map and decide to move to a new event or level, I just thought "meh" and lost interest. I've made two separate characters and enjoyed the second one more than the first, but still.... just "meh".
Maybe it's the loneliness of being the only n00b in sight. Level 80's running around all the major locations and all of the level 80's alts running around the starter zones. I think I only met 3 other people who were genuinely new to the game in the starter areas. So it was pretty much like playing a single person RPG with a bunch of people whizzing around you who are all too pre-occupied to give you the time of day.
I can see how this game might be fun, especially if you were there among the first players and had people to level up with and around. But now, though, the game is over 2 years old and people are set in their ways and just push their way through zones without thinking twice.

If you go to any Fan-Event (PAX / World-Con etc) where ANet is present, they regularly get feedback that their 'story is awful, makes no sense and thus players lose interest in their game'.
They moslty just politely nod but during one of those events, they went 'We know and that is primary our focus moving forward so people don't leave so quickly'.
It shows what PvP games are really all about, and no, it's not about more realism and immersion. It's about cowards hiding behind a screen to they can bully other defenseless players without any risk of direct retaliation like there would be if they acted like asshats in "real life". -Jean-Luc_Picard
