When I first played Dragon’s Dogma back at its launch in 2012, I felt like I had stumbled across something that would surely go down as a cult classic. It was rough around the edges, had some quirks that wouldn’t appeal to everyone, and lacked a true multiplayer mode. As it turns out, I wasn’t far off.

Indeed.
I thought it had already been stated by Capcom that they're currently NOT considering a release in the West however (source on Eurogamer)

One console game seems pretty shallow.
However that one city looks nice lol.
I would say the problem of so called fast travel would be more in line to why nothing but questing is a problem. The fun is when you can just kill stuff and ONLY if your spells/abilities are fun.
I said it before in mmorpg's,if all i am suppose to do is run back n forth between npc's following a linear quest chain i get bored real fast.I want to go out and explore and kill stuff and if a quest area happens along the way that is ok.Having played EQ2 the first real questing game for me,i noticed i would have a ton of logged quests ,so many i couldn't keep track. It was because even back then i never wanted to run back n forth doing them,i instead just wanted to do them as i came across them.
Last point however is to say that you won't need to run back n forth if you have a lot of quests logged. If the game is so weak it only opens u pa new quest after you hand in the last, then ya i am bored already.
Point is i don't believe in fixing bad game design with another bad idea, fast travel does not belong in a game unless it carries merit and belongs with the LORE,example a mage casting Warp or teleport.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

As for the list itself, one thing they need to do is keep the meaningful day/ night cycle. I know it's a pain in the butt, but early on in the game (later too) you pretty much had to take shelter at night. For those who haven't played, night time increased the strength of some monsters, and caused others beyond your ability to kill to spawn and run around, with predictable results. Oh, and it's dark. Really dark. As in, you need a lantern or torch to find your way... which of course attracts certain monsters.
I really hope this does hit the States. If done right, it could be a beautiful, beautiful thing.
AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!

Dragon's Dogma Online is confirmed for at least PS3, PS4, and PC. That's a lot more than a console game on one platform.
Not to mention, this is MMORPG.com. If it's an MMO or RPG, there's a good chance we'll consider writing about it, even if it is console exclusive. Many of our readers are PC exclusive but not all, especially with this generation of console hardware.

This.
I think (hope) we should be able to play the Japanese version on a PS4 Japanese profile (easy to set up).
Regarding point 4 (fast travel), I guess if the gameworld is really huge or your backpack fills up very quickly it might be good to have easier fast travel options (than in the original DD), but I actually really liked the lack of fast travel in DD. It made the world more dangerous and put a greater focus on exploration, something that is often asked for in mmos.
Another thing that people have asked for in mmos is a real night/day cycle- DD had that, and it was absolutely amazing. I hope they keep the same set up with the online version and don't try to "mmoize" it.
From what I can gather on the DDO website it seems the game will be more like "go and adventure with a few friends in the DD world" than an mmo, a kind of online co-op version of DD, with the city being a persistent world central hub/lobby where you can interact/meet other players before going out into the world with a group of 4 players to quest.
The website also says you can take a group of pawns with you instead of friends/other players.
No suprise but:

Original Dragon's Dogma had weapon and armor sets you could buy. Not to mention that with Dark Arisen came the option to buy the Rift Crystal Packs (which were way overpriced tbh).
*For those that don't know the gimmick with RIft crystals in Dark Arisen was the high end armors were cursed and you needed to have them "Purified" by an NPC, costing you Rift Crystals. You could get small amounts of Rift crystals from enemies (Random Drops) or by having your Pawn hired. (Best work around was to create an alt account and hire your own pawns =P)
Right, I forgot about that! I never paid cash for those things, but I guess that is one way they could monetize the f2p version.
"A Capcom UK representative told Eurogamer this morning that there are no plans to release Dragon's Dogma Online in the west, so don't hold your breath."
So what's the point of all this article?
OMG Massively I already miss you so much...
"According to the developers, the world of Dragon’s Dogma Online will be roughly the same size as the world of Dragon’s Dogma, but will be expanded over subsequent updates to roughly three times its original size. The main story will also be continuously updated in “seasons”, with each season serving as a full chapter in the story." Taken from: http://www.kotaku.com.au/2015/01/compared-to-the-original-dragons-dogma-onlinewill-be-a-huge-game/
Maybe these seasons could be the microtransactions they are talking about. Guess we'll find out.
To build hype? IDK, possibly for the gamers who are interested in the aspect of a Online version of Dragon's Dogma?
Alot of games coming from the East don't have plans for West release initially. DDO is already slated to be a Japan release sometime this year so its not impossible to start the gears churning for a West release.
Also, someone started a petition for Capcom to release DD in West apparently. https://www.change.org/p/capcom-release-dragon-s-dogma-online-for-eu-and-na
If it is on the ps4 you should be able to play it from anywhere if you set up a Japanese profile.
This is the worst aspect of games from the east -- and it started all the way back with the NES.
They only release the games they think will work well in the west, and they are NOT right all the time. So you get 500 games in the east and only 50 of those make it to the west. This happened all the time and it annoys me no end. So many games that I had an interest in that were made by eastern companies that either were never released, had sequels that were never released, or were at best delayed for YEARS.
DDO website was updated today with some new info and screen shots. It gives a bit of an outline of the story, talking about how a white dragon that protects the lands is dying and uses his power to make a new kakusha (arisen) to protect the lands against an impending evil. It also gives some info and pics on the monsters- an army of orcs to fight off, a "colossus" (looks like a Cyclops), and a Lindwurm - a water dragon with lightening breath - it looks huge judging by the screen shots.
You can check it out here: www.dd-on.jp
Next update will be feb 12th.
My #1 is that it will be better than garbage like Archage.
