Never left, but I am sure a lot of ppl will not return with an xpac.
That's a good thing really: Base game remains the same - What made many people leave in the first place is basically what the rest of us enjoy. Not returning simply means that people accept that this game was never for them in the first place.
If anything, I guess Anet learned not to try to please certain (very vocal) schools of MMO-beliefs: This expansion is more or less screaming: "We are expanding GW2 - NOT trying to be WoW 1.5"
Bottom line. If you hated GW2: Stay away from the expansion - Both you and the GW2 community is best served that way!
We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!! (repeat ad infinitum)
Originally posted by RollieJoe Hey, just wondering if anyone who played GW2 at launch and then quit for whatever reason, is NOT planning on returning to check out the expansion. Basically, is anyone who played completely done with GW2, regardless of what the expansion brings? If so, curious to hear why? Thanks!
I'm not coming back. To me me they didn't deliver on anything. To me the Dynamic Events weren't really "dynamic". They didn't get rid of quest hubs, you merely had to follow the DEs so all they did was create a moving quest hub. The story was horrible, the character models weren't my thing. The jumping puzzles were childish and the two things that sealed it for me were that I had to try to die, and the game bored me faster than any other.
Of course that's all my opinion and I know there are a bunch that really love it. To them I hope they continue to have fun in the future, but I am done.
I had fun for about 3 month straight. I've also been back a few times since, but I don't see anything in the expansion that interests me enough for the box price.
I'll probably check out the expansion at some point when it's on sale, but that's about it.
Originally posted by bcbully I would have tried it if there was more character depth and customization added.
Things like character voice choices. Your character talks too much not to be able to choose how it sounds.
I was hoping for more skills and weapons too. Say 3 skills each for 1-5 with the ability to slot them how I want.
I never felt attached to my character because of things like those I just mentioned. They helped contribute to my shorter than expected stay.
Shorter than expected? I'm surprised you played it to begin with. If I remember Aerowyn and you (and others) would go back and forth about the game prior to it's launch. It was during the TSW>< GW2 push pull debates.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

Yep, but I was there day one. Thought it would be the pvp party of the year. By that time I knew TSW's pvp was a bismol I didn't want to miss it. I even made a positive early review where about my only desire was for more slottable weapon skills.
Yep for those 3 weeks, I thought I was wrong about every thing I said about GW2.
Very unlikely. I didn't like the dungeon mechanics, lack of an actual group finder, zerg PVP and zerg world boss kills. Dynamic Event were a total letdown. The Living Story without phasing meant once that part of the story was gone you could no longer see it. That and horrid WvWvW was why I left after hitting the cap.
A few weeks ago I would have probably said I'm not too bothered about an expansion. but I took the dive and started playing again. Lots of quality of life changes.. and I realised just how little I had actually completed the first time I played it. Hooked again. LOVE PvP tracks and the wardrobe system.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
I actually hated this game. Now I look at it for what it is to me, a co op sorta MMO, and I love it for that. So yes now I will buy the x pac. If you asked me 3 months ago I would have said no.
I liked the leveling experience in guild wars 2, but for me an MMO doesn't really start till endgame. GW2 had one of the worst endgames of any MMO i've ever played. Your options were to grind dungeons for hours for cosmetic armor, run around in a giant mindless blob in WvW, or play a few uninspired boring bg's over and over again. The players' mindsets also had a lot to do with WvW being bad. They could've made it something special if roaming groups was the norm. It could've been reminiscent of what DAoC had, good group vs. group fights where people respected each other and skill and coordination triumphed over all. Instead it was a giant zerg of monkies running around smooshing buttons on whatever they came across, be it a keep, some guards, or another giant mindless zerg.
I have an account and barely touch it. I'm a solo player but this game is soooo solo that it might as well be a single player game. You automatically join all groups in an area to complete quests and don't even need to talk to npc's much less other players.

I think any mmorpg today is like this. Take the steps to join others and join them in playing it like an mmorpg. Of course you can do this with any game, but with GW2 at least the scaling increases. You join someone in other titles doing quests it gets easier, and you don't gain as much XP.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
Originally posted by Galia I played at launch. I was really disappointed with the game offered. Oh well. I'm not likely to come back. Too much single player simpleton gameplay. Pay to win was / is an issue. But whatever, it is just a very very very lonely MMORPG to play (to me).
Pay to win? Nice joke...
Do tell me how I can pay to win, because for the past week the stupid matchmaking system only places we me with guys with less than 1000 AP and I lose most of the time >.>
So please ... do tell how can I pay to win, because I would.
Also, Gw2 has one of the best communities in online gaming. Saying that you are lonely in it, maens you are doing it wrong and/or you are too used to forced grouping.
Due to RNG, probably not. After farming for ages to get a legendary, having a friend get 3 precursors from the MF in one afternoon kinda sucks knowing I dumped infinitely more stuff into it.
Thinking about returning recently, only to find a new magic find stat bound to your account - so once again I'm at a disadvantage in the never-ending war against RNG.
So no, going to have to give the expansion a miss "unfortunately".
You will be able to obtain precursor without RNG. Through collections. Kinda like the same trick they do with Luminiscent armors
Began playing in beta. Quit about a y ear ago with 5 lvl 80s. I did well in WvW, but with no further areas to explore and turned off by the resources going into silly hats and mingames, and especially the over abundance of jumping puzzles, I left.
Logged in this past Sunday at prime time. Cities deserted. No world or trade chat. DEAD.
I suspect the only numbers around are dyed in the wool PVPers in the mists, but that is not my thing.
The xpack sounds like more of the same.
No thanks.
I play WOW now, which is a billion times better. 5 times the amount of zones to explore. Tons of dungeons, raids.
Way better gear customization.
I just wish I had never bothered with GW2 and gone with WOW to begin with.

Anyone can see that there was a large population boost since the xpac announcement.

I did GW2 for a long while and no interested in going back. I like trinity and they dont have it, so haters of the trinity style of game UNITE and ATTACK!!!!
I think a better question would be if anyone is returning for the expansion. I've already returned in preparation for the expansion.
I'd love to argue about things most people said here (boring combat, boring level experience) as I think GW2 is superior in these aspects to other MMOs, but I guess people have differing opinions. My complaints about the game probably won't get addressed in the expansion pack. GW2 still lacks strong endgame PvE content and has really poor encounter design, I was shocked to find encounters in Arah kept the same. One boss you literally stand there with a reflecting crystal held (no actual attacking of the boss required) while dodging a largely telegraphed red circle every 10 seconds. Others you can just shoot from ranged while avoiding all mechanics.
Despite terrible PvE I've come to the realization that GW2 is simply the best MMO market right now. Looking at my current options (pretty much just World of Warcraft which I've long since been over) there really isn't anything I find worth playing out there because while fun for the time I'm over tab targeting and I'm over traditional questing as these are severely outdated mechanics and it's going to be a long time before potentially good MMOs get released in the West and I feel less and less excited about releases like Black Desert and Everquest Next with recent news and information about those games. GW2 being B2P makes it easy to come back to as well.

Why do you want to know who is NOT coming back for the expansion? Kind of a weird question unless you were intentionally trying to start a troll post to show GW2 in a negative light?
Aside from that, i started playing again last night for the first time since launch and I have actually been having alot of fun and met some cool people so far. They've changed alot of things around to make it less "boring" as you say. To be honest... After having playing WoW for 10 years and various other MMO's I can easily say that GW2 is pretty dang well built. Good graphics, smooth gameplay. If you want to pvp at max level no need to grind pve to do it. If you want to pve the content is there and actually really good. Turn the sound on, listen to the story, immerse yourself, you might decide you like it compared to most other MMO's.
Played at launch, loved it, guild loved it, dominated PvP, PvP changes came in and competition increased, loved it more, competition dropped, got bored and we all quit a few months later after getting sick of it not picking back up. No, we don't do tournaments, if we did, we would be playing LoL where there are pros to fight for a challenge. So, wont be coming back because the game doesn't have enough people that are decent in a PvP game without the trinity handicap...guess it was too hard for them to adjust.
Perhaps if there is a major boost to the games PvP we will think about coming back since its the only real game on the market with combat that breaks the trinity mold that grew stale years ago.

They have improved some of the boss encounters during the Living World. Unfortunately they didn't revamp much of the old content
Have you played Silverwastes?
It seems that they finally making what I was expecting Orr to be - a PvE WvW like. The expansion areas seem to expand on what they have done with dry top and silverwastes.
Of course Arenanet idea of end game is collecting stuff and PvP. So it also depends on what the new WvW borderlands map and the new PvP stronghold map brings to the table.
