People have been waiting for a sequel to UO for almost 20 years and in that time every fan has dreamed up their perfect version of UO2. Any deviation from these self imposed expectations would elicit intense nerd rage.
You would have the "it must be isometric over head or its not a real UO!"
You would have the art style complainers.
You would have the free for all full loot PvP crowd.
And people complaining about every single feature that's not exactly as it was in UO back in 1997.

I have to agree with you, the game has changed so much over the years that the fights over what UO is would destroy it. Or they could go like AC2 and completely scrap everything that made the first game great and make it just like every other game out there.

Have you tried it? I have been. Every single alpha/beta. The game is a lot like UO in terms of PvP, using skills to gain, crafting, the way you collect resources, building, player interaction.... there is so much in common. Richard Garriot does own the rights to Ultima again....so it is possible..
Hell, even Chris Roberts is supposedly in negoititaions with EA to get the rights to Wing Commander back.
For everyones information, he does not own the rights to Ultima again. He only owns rights to some of the characters, such as "Lord British". Other than that there is no actual Ultima in sight.

Well you got Camelot Unchained on its way! One I will surely try. I used to play UO and DAOC so much. UO got trammel, and then DAOC got that stupid expansion Trials of Atlantis that destroyed the PvP aspect of the game and turned it semi-wowish where the focus was more on grinding.
UO was something very different from every other MMO out at it's time (Meridian 59 and the Realm).
Just making a sequel with updated graphics would not make the original game justice. A new UO should be different and not just from the original game but from all other MMOs as well.
And sure, if Garriot can do that I am all for it. But an UO HD game is something I can do without.
I think a lot of the old MMOers miss what made UO so amazing due to nostalgica, UO did like few games before or after and did things it's own way. If Garriot seriously would want to try things again he should go back to the thoughts that made him create UO in the first place but start anew from that perspective.

If you are going to compare Albion and UO and say the above are the same you are crazy. Using a skill does not gain in it, completing an action with the skill EX. Killing a monster - Is how you advance. Crafting is similar, although UO never forced you to use your in game money to craft an item, so once again not the same. Also UO never had Exceptional & Mastercraft, we had GM except quality. You can get Mastercraft on a t1 item.
Collecting Resources is the same? Are you smoking? The only part similar is the Logging aspect where you hit a tree. Ore was gathered inside of or on the outside of mines, and cloth was made from shearing sheep primarily, so how is hitting a ore node you can see in the open world the same?
Building. Building is in SELECT locations. It is also very limited. There is no section where the Guard Zone ends and you can just place where you like (as long as the requirements are met such as space and flat ground)
Nothing is sold to vendors, or purchased from them really. It is all player driven. The Banks are LOCAL as are the Auction house, also different from UO.
Does it have a UO type feel, sure it sort of does. It is in no way UO though. UO was a living world, this is an instanced block at a time zone based MMO -

Well I read my post over and found nothing where you state that I said the two are the same. The two have a lot in common which is what I said. A lot of ex-uo players are gonna love this, and a lot of us ex-uo players have already been enjoying it. If you are expecting literally a carbon copy of the original game you are frickin kidding yourself bud.
