Great game to be.... but..

Yes there is allways a but, the questions is what size is it?

Skyforge is very prommising for an action MMORPG, the combat seems top knotch, so are graphics and annimations, and there seems to be enough content diversity...  but the things that worrie me are ;

- Could be a death world with no NPC living it, much like DCUO

- Its a lobby kind of game, i hope there will be enough open world zones free to explore

-There is no crossskills or multi classing between then 10 classes, which will make the classswitching feel unnatural

- Allods is producing it, and the Allods has beeen ruined from the beginning by the wrong marketing decisions

-it is F2P lets hope its not Pay to Win, Allods has a rather bad reputation when it comes to this.

- Its a russian company and they have a political situation to deal with

So far those are my biggest worries, for the time being....    the first one being the biggest and a potential gamekiller for me, if the world feels empty and soulless i can not play it over a long stretch of time...

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

I agree with your final 2 points.

For me personally I do not mind a lobby like game. I personally do not want to roam around an open world. In this day and age I feel the open world concept is dead due to the overwhelmingly high amount of players. It literally takes the feel out for me as I never really feel like an adventurer in a world anymore. Single player games like Skyrim do a much better job at filling that role for me personally.  I think also this will cater to a higher number of players as there is a "more now" mentality whether due to time, entitlement or just those with the lack of effort to explore to get tasks done. Will this take away from the atmosphere of the game? Like stated in my post already, I think the internet in general has taken away from the atmosphere in most online mmorpgs. Now this is only my opinion based on my personal play style nowadays and is no way accurate to any majority of players.

Back to your final 2 points. This will single handily destroy the game for me if the Allods team does not get it together and be sensible with it's business decisions. Placing to much of the game behind pay only walls will completely kill it for me. For example gear drop being locked behind a cash shop purchase. I do not mind hats and cosmetics, exp pots, reset pots content boosters (ie: dungeons or classes) or even a subscription allowing for perks. But once you start locking in-game dropped content behind your cash shop...that's where the problem follows. Good f2p models (IMO) allows the player to unlock everything (minus most cosmetics) in-game without any special stipulations.

Hoping for the best on this title as I really want to play and would be willing to spend my money wisely on a far cash shop design

IMO I don't need to know any more than that Allods is involved, so I will avoid it!

Feel same way. Nothing good could come from this.

Unless they lock content behind a paywall or implement weekly prestige/power limitations that can be removed by paying I wouldn't worry about the P2W element even though it is from Allods team.

The structure of Skyforge is built on scaling which basically prevents people from gaining edge from "P2W".

PvP Brackets are based on your power ("levels + gear").

PvE missions are based on your power.

Gear drops are based on your power.

Everything is so heavily scaled that buying progression booster won't carry you anywhere (although it allows you to unlock power-gated content faster).

I'm quite certain you can enjoy the game F2P or with few bag slots + "Premium membership (monthly)".

I think we all need to accept that some MMO's are designed lobby like worlds and some MMO's are designed to be open world like WoW

Which ever way its designed you can't force it to be the one you want, its just the way its designed

Avoiding it because of ALLODS, have no faith in their business model.

Bear in mind this is a different team to ALLODS and also OBSIDIAN are involved, arguably one of the best RPG game creators of recent times

The vibe I get from the promos they do is they are keen to undo the rep the allods team got, a LOT of their recent live stream was saying you wont be able to buy power, a heavy emphasis on that coming from "In game rewards" was coming from them.

I hope my initial impression is correct, but given that they bucked the trend on early access with their pricing (17 Euro for the cheap package, compare that to Rift, Archage, Landmark, Neverwinter) and I have a feeling this might be one of the less money grabbing f2p models.

Additionally the fact they are launching a "Premium membership" suggest this is going to be more of a freemium model than a true F2P one.

Tell that to the 65 euro package with an legendary weapon in it or the other packages with rings in them.

Who can say this wont follow through in their cashshops for later levels aswell.

So really hope they shed some light on what the stores will hold closer to CBT launch.

Also more details on what premium actually gives us would be great.

time will tell, so far i can only follow this game and hope for the best.

The "Legendary weapon" while we're missing the fine details, is an item you're getting at the start of the game. Meaning it'll most likely be obsolete after some minor play time.  Same with everything else in the packs. They're "convenience" items more than anything else.

As for the premium accounts, they will increase your progression rate as well as your rewards.

Yeah but whats stopping them for putting more items on the store for later levels?

We've just seen they arent afraid to put them in packs regardless of low lvl or not.

Like i said, we need to recieve more details of the system and hope for the best.

I have never played (or even heard of) a game with a Cash Shop where that Cash Shop didn't become more and more influential over time.

    It's almost inevitable.

The question is not IF the Cash Shop will go bad, but how long it will take before it goes bad...

People have hard time understanding why this does not matter in Skyforge.

    1) There's no power/prestige cap = There's no maximum level.

    2) Everything scales based on your power/prestige. = Maps become harder, PvP brackets become higher, Loot becomes better.

Meaning you can P2W as much as you like but it won't give you any advantage _unless_ you are aiming to become TOP 10 in power/prestige.

Actually the downside of P2W in Skyforge is that you are alone at the top and most likely need to play PvE maps solo and PvP is not running at all in your bracket.

The founder packs give you a headstart, which paradoxically doesn't really give you any advantage compared to F2Pers.

So it looks like they learnt a bitter lesson from Allods. That game was so much fun in the beginning and had some really fantastic pet classes but it emptied like a broken dam when they introduced the items that made levelling a major pain especially when you died.

I might get this game wait and see how it goes. Playing ESO now and still enjoying it so can wait this out to see how it plays out.

He covered it quite well sand saved me some typing. Skyforge set its self up in a very interesting way that completely negates the effects you'd normally get if you could buy "power".

Big problem I am having they this in allods, if your try to avoid pvp in allods you have hell of the time upgrading gear to get in the higher ranks, and there pvp was full mount on combat mounts much more op each time they come out with, and then items on the side that more powerful then other items, but if try to pvp to just do pve your pretty force too or is a mass grind or gold sink.

If people like that stuff be my guest, but allods don't only have a f2p server they have a sub server with no cash it's maybe like 300 people tops that play it, when I watch skyforge I'm starting to see some parts of allods coming to the picture, I am sure people they do get in will not see much P2W now down the line they will add them don't hope them doing doing so.

But anyhow if want to support the game if people like it go for it, but if people been burn it the pass in any games with cash shop that give power to a other, pretty much it's on the people , that payed for it, people should of knew that stuff like this is going happen don't complain later when your wallet open and spend money in it:)

Don't mean I'm not going try it but to spend money is a other question I'm saying, as it need be out a full year see there going if they turn them self around and did it right be for I drop a dime in it again.

Isn't your power also based on your followers? so even if you did P2W you would be weak as hell or is that just a small % of where your power comes from?

Followers are roughly 1/3 of your power. The other 2/3 come from your Ascension Atlas and Equipment. So it's possible to be on the same level as someone who does a lot more follower stuff than you but has worse equipment.
