Also, in response to that bag statement a few posts back. If you pay for your patronage in credits (instead of in Apex) you get enough bonus credits every month to expand your bank and bags slots every month. I think I was buying two expansion scrolls a month with the extra credits from a $20 purchase.
And I didn't HAVE to do it that way. I chose to do it that way instead of give in to the inflation of trying to buy it on the AH (auction house).
The labor point system is the worst thing I've ever seen in an MMO. Complete joke. Oh, I've bot 50 loots bags I need to open. Let me sit AFK for an hour. Every system in the game punishes players who don't pay for patron.
I really wonder whats up with those communities today. A few friends are playing archeage now for a few weeks and we are having a blast. Its the most fun MMO in a long time. Not just the higly polished graphics etc.... but the very complex crafting system (where you can actually skip leveling totally and just focus on crafting), or the awesome trading, housing system. Then you have the sea battles and pirates.... a pvp system not just between your faction... also politically influences with consequences and a full court system.
What not to love in this game? Well yeah sadly its F2P, but absolutely no game stopper at all. Labor points keep crafting interesting... the best endgame gear is very difficult to obtain - which I think is a good thing. Mounts, Diving, Farms... I can go on and on... but for us its one of the most polished and deep new mmo there ever. We are so happy that we didn't listen to all the hate here and just tried it ourselve
Happy playing
Under rated? this game was hyped beyond measure then floped due to the heavy P2W and the stupid stamina system. lets not forget the one sided housing system.

If they would change the game back to alpha build i think the servers would but so full you wouldnt beleave it . the game was so great then but looking at the game then towards then the game now it sucks. fishing was so worth the time diveing you got cool items from the lockboxes. I had to leave when i was trying to get a piece of land with 15 to 20 others at the same time and a guy that wasnt even there got it by hacking and the gms wouldnt do a thing about it . So i gave my farm house and land to a guildy and moved on. but if they ever open a alpha build server again id jump back in a heart beat.
AA has earned all the hate that it's received. I followed it prior to its NA release. I paid money for the early beta access. I received my Premium account. Even with free offers and extensions to my account, I reached the point where I simply refuse to play it.
You can only spam hot-bar skills so many times in a PvP battle before it gets really old. You can only plant so many dotted circles of crops in a row before you feel like gouging your eyes out. You can only lose the same exact trade pack so many times over again before you give up - a testament to how useless PvP is. You can only die and respawn with you fully equipped gear and untouched stats so many times before you realize how meaningless combat is. And you can only run out of LP once before you realize how broken that system is.
I found that this game is great with a guild to roll with. Otherwise I was either bored or constantly ganked (unless I stayed in safe zones, which I had no intention of doing).
Of course, all pvp areas have peace zones, so those times are great for when you want to level.
But I lost desire to continue with the game when I went into crafting and regarding. There was just too much RNG involved.
Overall, I think it is a solid game concept, just poorly executed, but still, if you can get past or avoid the grind, you will have lots of fun.
The only good things in this game were housing/farming and naval combat.
Unfortunately the land system was completely destroyed by hackers and naval combat / pvp requires gear which requires spending months and months farming gold which is capped by labor and playing the brutal crafting casino. To slightly speed this up you need to spend 15 on partron + buy labor pots and regrade crystals constantly, or just drop a few thousand into APEX and buy it all instantly.
If you just want to play farmville for ~40 mins a day AA might be ok, but if you ever want to be even decent in PvP you need to drop tons of cash, or be content with being whale fodder for months and months while you wait for labor and money to attempt crafting.
Like what somebody said above - for the average non-p2w Whale player who wants to make an honest effort, the numbers just do not add up which is the fate for all short-term profit focused F2P games.
The game is great, even though once it was much better. The problem is that the management is not. They're greedy and make changes that will net them a lot of money but destroy the economy and the overall balance of the game. I played it since the beginning of alpha until a couple of months ago and I loved it. Then Trion showed their true colors and the game quickly became unplayable as far as I'm concerned. It's a shame because I was anticipating the game for years and the first few months were everything I wanted it to be, during alpha when there was no cash shop. If they had released it as a sub-only game, and rethought some of the decisions they made regarding labor and the skills available at launch, I'd still be playing it. I'd probably play it for a few years.
Yeah, if they had a server running that was back to how Alpha was before the arceume nerf patch it would be great. Would be the game I would play and would be happy spending 30 bucks a month on two accounts.
I am currently enjoying the game and what it has to offer. I like the in depth crafting and am in a decent guild. For those of you on the fence I would try it, it is FTP anyone. I became a patron though. The quests are fairly generic but there are lots of different things you can do.

Be sure to come back in a few weeks when you get sick of running to the cash shop every day for labor potions and after you get reamed out by the RNG monster 2-3 times, and let people know what you think then.
That is if you actually CAN do any of the more advanced crafting, most of which requires you to have been able to get land for house/workshop, which you might not even be able to do.

I am back, now 5 months playing and daily login into the game.
Playing the best game (MMORPG genre) that has been developed in the last decade and never used the cash shop except forthe sloth glider i got for ...login in daily.

(And I am sure we can all believe the biggest booster AA has on these forums about that, too.)
a friend got me to try AA for the first time a few days ago. never been a fan of eastern style mmo's, especially the art and lore of most of them. none of the character models are cool in AA, they all suck IMO
i ended up setting with the cat type race (can't remember the name) and i got it to look decent. so far it's pretty mediocre but i heard it gets a lot better once i get higher level so i am giving it it's fair chance.
hoping the pvp in fun, if it is i could see myself playing it for a while.

Nearly 2 1/2 years of playing AA (AA NA + AA KR), log in daily and have been crafting this whole time. I have no problems being patient setting goals that I can achieve over time. I am glad this game doesn't cater to the instant gratification crowd because if many of you got your wish, AA would be no different than ever other MMO out there, play for a few weeks/months then out of content nothing left to do. Things take time in this game which is why I have been able to remain engaged all this time whereas there hasn't been an MMO to keep my interest this long since DaOC.
There is no other game on the market currently that can offer a similar package wrapped up in a true virtual world which you live in as opposed to "lobby in". To me AA is the most immersive MMO I have ever played and even after all this time I am still engaged and haven't run out of things to do.
If I were like the rest of the haters and leave based on whatever personal/petty reason I often hear, who is that punishing when all you are left with are shallow lobby MMO's that can't hold a candle to what AA offers?
Here's a few ideas that might help some of you,
It's a video game, don't put yourself into financial turmoil to try and keep up with your neighbor.
Not all players are created equal. Some have more money, some may have more time. Some may have families. Some may be no-lifer basement dwellers. This equates to the fact that you may never be able to keep up with your neighbor in AA and you will find far more enjoyment making your own goals that your budget and lifestyle permit.
If you do spend more money than you can afford or feel the weight of guilt because you did, remember that it was your choice to spend, learn from your mistake and don't repeat it. IE don't blame Trion!
Not every issue in the game should be considered a hill to die on. Pick your battles, fight for what means the most to you but not every battle is worth fighting. If every issue is a hill to die on, then none will perceived to be.
MMO's aren't perfect and take time to evolve. Mistakes will be made but if you truly believe in the core concepts of the game, be patient and don't expect perfection overnight. Don't abandon at the first sign of trouble.
If you do decide to leave, just go and try not to obsess over disparaging the game to the existing player base. One might say that if you are that obsessed with getting validation for your decision to leave, maybe it wasn't the right decision and what you are actually experiencing is doubt and possibly regret in disguise of outrage.
Common sense to some, completely foreign concepts to others.

I had a lot of fun in this game for around 4 months. Then I felt like playing something else but it was a blast while it lasted.
My guild killed the kraken, it was fun.

So yeah, again, it's really not that bad.
This is how I spent my Sunday last Sunday.
