Logged in, game still doesn't run very well, choppy during combat on Medium settings.  High or Ultra was like a slideshow.

Also this is on a decent system,   x99, I7-5820, 16gb ram.

Very big AOE nerf directed to the people who were soloing group Scenarios.
Seems like Lairs and signet drops where nerfed too.

On the other hand it should be a bit easier for new players to go through the content zones. I think the change was needed since players who didn't properly min-max (i.e. following some of the survival coockiecutter builds, along with optimal gear) then got into a wall at some points and couldn't enjoy the rest of storyline without having to redo content to farm for AP.

This game has some complicated skill/gear systems for what it is.

Great game, and keeps getting better.  The only thing I hope is that they didn't make the monsters tooooo easy.

Yeah i didn't notice any change with combat. Its still crappy. You still have solo story quest that you need a team to do. Its a smoke and mirrors update. I have this one stupid quest where i have to defend some chick named Ami while she does some magic thing. The amount of mobs thrown at you is just stupid. If i can't do a quest that says its solo then forget about it. They said they would improve the starter decks which they didn't. This is also why i have a big problem with new mmo's. They were made by guys that grew up playing on consoles and not pc. In this game you have to keep dodging and rolling out of the way. They have mods that are just stupid to try and target. And they call this crap challenging. The pc controls are so stupid in this game. They feel so weird to me.And you will still be spending more time asking about deck builds than playing the game. Its not surprising the games player base is small. Its just not a very fun game to play. And the amount of points you need to upgrade your Tailsman is just grindy as hell. The best thing about this game is the game world.

It's brought me back today, and I'm glad it was put in.  Game is much more fun now and less tedious.  Those complaining are like old people who don't like change.  The gripes will die down once they adapt.  NEVER listen to vet players after a patch hits lol, they aren't even the target for this patch anyway, new players and ones that have moved on and might come back were.   Now I can finally enjoy all of the awesome story lines and quests and get through content that just wasn't fun to attempt before due to long TTK and extreme cookie cutter decks as well as odd mechanics on NORMAL mobs that makes a certain deck useless.  Yeah, I'm one of THOSE players who likes to have a couple of builds but can't stand changing skills out just to overcome a stupid "buff" on a mob that makes most of what I was using before obsolete.

It's one thing to have that stuff in nightmare areas and dungeons/lairs where it is appropriate, another to have it in the general gameworld where most of us want to relax and enjoy the content.

Just played a little and they did make trash mobs a lot easier to kill, it took me half as long to kill them in the starter area.  Fights in the higher areas seem much better and survival when trash mobs join in the fight is better.  They are still very tightly compacted in some areas.  Nice to see monster levels and skill sets when you inspect them.  Still needs more fluid combat but maybe it is what it is.

Every mission is soloable , though none of the missions are brain-dead easy..

The starter decks HAVE been updated and now use passives from non-equipped weapon trees, as well as some self-heals.  You also now must pick 2 weapons in the tutorial mission, so a couple of  major improvements there.

    What a cute cat!

As for the news about TSW, I'm almost tempted to re-install and try it again. I really liked the game world and quest, but yeah the melee combat and gear as level was kind of bad.

As somebody who was around in late beta and bought within a few months of launch, who got tired of killing moths and many other mobs who just kept spawning and aggroing over and over again to where you couldn't get to your quest point in any decent manner of time, and  just spent a few hours on a new character for the halibut...  I can say that combat isn't nearly the excruciating mess that it was(at least in Kingsmouth).  Granted, they seem to have chosen to solve that by having trash mobs be wiped out in a few shots.  But that makes a mountain of difference in the main game, IMO.

It sorta resolves the schizm in leadership regarding this game.  It's always seemed that there was one side, in which story coherency was so important that they limited players to one main quest at a time.  But at the same time, there was another side that seemed to think you should be constantly interrupted by insignificant encounters that should take forever and a day to clear out, in order to get to that main mission.

So far, the solution seems a bit cheap, but it still makes the experience far better.  The combat was never the strong point of this game, it was the very well thought out missions.  The drawn out, uninteresting combat detracted from these great mission experiences.

Did they overnerf leveling content or did they actually make it fun? It was kinda tedious at some points.

What about useless abilities like turrets/drones/etc? Duplicates? Broken?

What is the hype about anyhow?

Turrets and drones weren't useless. Hype is about a few changes which delivered a punch below the belt for some -very popular- decks. (of course they just need to react, adapt. Life is a constant change. Damn, I only have a Dragon since a month and I'm slipping away already... help me KG image)

I wouldn't say overnerf, but it's noticeably easier now. But I think it was fine before the change too... if you found it tedious, now it's much better.

    Verdict, I posted it above - true, that's a long one :)

Shorter version, I think it's a good update. Newbies have much more help and information right from the start, without the need of newbie guides (but of course those are still recommended imo). Base game has a smooth flow, easier than before (with less mobs in the dense areas, better starter decks, better loot drops). Issue content has the same difficulty, scenarios / Tokyo / nightmares have the same, or a bit raised difficulty (AoE). True, a few endgame decks need some theory crafting but I'm sure in a week there will be new "über" decks circulating around.

QoL updates, a mixed bag: there are good ones (fast travel, cosmetics, free access to Tokyo), neutral ones (achievment score, All-Seeing Eye all showing map) and potentially harmful one (imo), the gear score.

    Tl,dr: it's a good change.

Having to buy or hunt up a buddy key before you can get going is a sure way to turn off a lot of possible players that have never tried it before.

Not a terrible game, but with all the other free to download games available, just makes this one a pass for far to many. A quick and easy way to get it downloaded and playing for new people would help alot.

Erm I'm pretty sure TSW went F2P with sub options a long time ago....

Nah, that is a very good thing. The combat is so bad this is probably the easiest way to make it a little bit more appealing. And that have nothing to do with exploration ;)

Nope, they're B2P with the optional sub and lifetime sub. So you still need a buddy key to try it out for 3 days (that's why the buddy key thread is so active).

It looks like a lot of well-needed changes. The travel changes are a great idea, and will take some of the BS run-time from the game.  I hope the starter decks are genuinely improved, that would be great.

Does anybody have a list of all the abilities affected by the ability rebalance?  I've been advocating for them to tweak some of the less useful abilities to allow synergies with weapons that don't normally share them.   There are Six upper level branches in each weapon tree, with six steps before the elite power on each.  With thirty-six non-elite powers for each weapon, it wouldn't be hard to drop in a moderate affliction power on fists, or a small dodge buff on an AR power, to make them synergize with abilities in other weapon trees.  This, in turn, would allow weapon combinations that aren't normally viable because of poor/no synergies.

Have they done anything with the combat mechanics in these changes?

It looks like you'll be disappointed.  They have mostly just moved some numbers around.  The core dynamic hasn't changed. That said, I'm not sure what you are looking for.  Are you looking for twitchier combat?  I don't know of too many games that go beyond GW2/TSW style maneuvering to avoid damage zones.  If its better animations, I think they updated some, but there aren't the resources for a full re-work.
