Says this game is F2P, but I can only find a $50 version. Am I missing something? Or does MMORPG have it wrong?

You have to buy the game.  It's a traditional single player buy the game in the store or digital experience.  No online that I know of.  I'm not sure about the need to be connected to play or not but since I bought it on steam I am online there anyways.

Hopefully they add multiplayer in the future but other than that so far it's a really fun game.  Lots and lots of text to read however.

Alright... That answers that question. It's $50.

Sounds like a great game, but I'm in no mood to spend $50 on a video game atm.

    I agree!

I finally got to try it last night after downloading. It's wonderful. All the little story aspects, and "choice"!

I haven't gotten that far in the game and don't know to what depth choice ultimately has but at one point I'm given a choice: stay with a wounded man or take off.

And I had to think about that.

Another choice "hurl my weapon and "possibly save that same man (earlier in the story) or continue to flee.

I did hurl my weapon it did end up saving the man but I then had no weapon for the place where we would flee. I kept wondering why I was doing "1" damage. That's what happens when you punch!

I also like that there is a running "story" sheet that keeps track of some of your decisions/dialogue choices.

I have been playing and it's great, a 7 or maybe an 8, I sure wouldn't give it a 10 though. Perhaps back 15 years ago I would have given it that, but not today.

Just because it was awesome way back when, it isn't that great now, sorry! I'm a huge fan and played all of them as they came out all those years ago, but comparing this to other titles like Divinity Original Sin isn't fair to the scoring system. There are so many newer titles with so much more to do,  including camera rotation. Sure, it is suppose to be like that because it was awesome 15 years ago and it's kind of a throwback game, but I'm not scoring it high just because of that.

I feel a lot of people are saying it is so awesome because they just want to be part of the cool kids. Nostalgia shouldn't totally be part of how a game is viewed, and scoring it a 10 is wrong imo.

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

With all due respect, do you know what the word "great" means?

The scenes and objects are two dimensional drawings, that's why you can't rotate the camera.  You should do what I did, go back and play some of the Gold Box games, then try this.

Played all the Gold Box games as well years ago. :) I'm pretty old and to me those games were totally the greatest, Pools of Radiance was one of my all time favorites.

Two dimensional is my point! It is old school, and didn't need to be done this way.

edit: of course I know what great means, I just used it twice. Good catch, you must be in the FBI or something.

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

After reading this review I think I'll be buying my first single player game in many years, would love to go back to that old school RPG feeling, and this game seems to have it.

An opinion is an opinion, personally aside from Planescape:Torment I find this story better than any other crpg there ever was. While I liked Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 I think POE does a much better job with lore, setting and overall story and characters. And I don't think that the latest Divinity game can hold a story to the story in POE. People play games for different reasons. For me in an rpg its all about the story and roleplaying first. For others its other things like gameplay. I can deal with gameplay being not as good as the story and roleplaying. So for me its a 9.

So many games out there that i was thinking POE,wait i have already played this  game.Perhaps they did pick this title on purpose to pull off of Path of Exiles searches.

Even still i NEED a video to at least get a grasp for the game.No video here and i am not about to buy into anything a paid writer is going to say about a game.Give me a video then explain it,i might at least listen.

So i went to Obsidian site and hit MEDIA.The ONLY video is omg bad,NOTHING on the game, the entire video is about how much money they raised and the kickstarter etc etc.

So i  assume this is nothing more than another Diablo clone? The fun is not in the game but more so in making builds? The combat i also assume being like Diablo/POE is trying to 1-2 shot everything ,so a no brainer no thinking after your build is made.

Some people mention story, well since even Obsidian is not showing me anything how good can it  be?Well i can tell you, notice dude in the video says "it looks like you guys are just making up stuff as you go,nothing was thought out,and he says yep that is exactly what we been doing.

So the original game design/concept was not planned or designed at all, they simply tossed out ideas to get people to throw money at their kick starter. This woudl also mean the story is definitely not planned, thought out nor any good.

Good game, I still think Wasteland 2 as well as Divinity:OS are better. Retaining that old school feel while offering up better game-play/functionality.

Ummm did you just made bunch of uninteligent assumption because of you inability to do a basic google search about a game? If you want videos of POE let me introduce you to youtube, its kinda awesome...

I mean, people have their own opinions and thats great, but its better to have an opinion about an actual game instead of making wild assumptions...

The story is overshadowed by only Planescape: Torment and the dificulty is somewhere between Baldur series and Temple of elemental evil, though it doesnt uses excact D&D ruleset, it draws heavily from it. The game has nothing at all to do with click-fests (aka Diablo) and strategy part is amazing on higher dificulty (like seriously hard).

Graphics though are still the same, a shame realy.

Taneon you beat me to the unintelligent post.  I agree with everything you said minus the graphics.  I like the isometric view and the roughness for this type of game.

I don't need to be able to spin a camera in a 360 for this type of play.  It would make the micro management horrible, which micro management is a huge part of the game.

I like the lack of my companions randomly casting or doing anything I don't tell them to.  It is the reason for the pause feature.  I save before every battle and reload when needed.  This type of system really makes you think.  I like that you can fail if you don't think things thru.

This is definitely not a one time play through as there will be things you can't do because you are a mage with high intelligence vs. being a warrior with high might.

The choices matter which is what makes this a great game that has gone back to the roots instead of trying to satisfy the I want everything right now mentality.

If you didn't play any of the older games like Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale, than you probably won't catch onto this game. It's kind of a nostalgia thing. Nothing at all like Diablo or any more modern day games. These are more of a playable (challenging) story book. All of the games have had some of the greatest stories and that is probably what makes them such classics.

Actually its not just about story, its about choice and impact, and enough choices so you can actually RP your character decently.

Thats pretty much difference between rpg and action game, in latter you also get story, it may be awesome story, but you go through the story in "accept" "decline" manner without any choice.

    ...You are so wrong.

I think this is going to introduce these deep, complex , tactics style games to a new generation.

This is the closest I have seen tabletop replicated since TOEE (heavily modded) and its far less nostalgia than just a great resurgance of a game style which has been gone for a decade and is back with modern UI and amenities. I have marathon played this masterpiece all weekend and now looking around at reviews- many fromfolks who never experienced this style of game. They are almost all positive.

I am hoping this is the culmination of a golden era in CRPGs that will rival the late 90s. Games like D:OS, wasteland 2 and shadowrun, shadowgate etc. have started the trend  towards an incredible gaming period but POE nailed it.

I expect many new fans to this style of game.

How am I so wrong? I said it was "kind" of a nostalgia thing. I was answering the posters question before me in a simple fashion. I could have delved deeper but he seemed to just be trying to stir up the discussion negatively.  I never gave yo a reason to explain why the game is good, I totally agree.

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

Never said it was just about story. If It were it would be called a book. I was merely trying to simplify my answer to the poster above me. /shrug

    ...You are so wrong.

I think this is going to introduce these deep, complex , tactics style games to a new generation.

I didnt actually mean it as it sounded- I was kind of trying to say that "I hope you are so wrong" .  It just didnt come across that way. I'm tired from a full weekend of playing POE lol. Havnt done this since college or shortly after.

Yeah, the guy thinks its a Diablo clone when this is not even close to an ARPG... But I'm not entirely sure he is just tryoing to be negative but just doesnt understand.

I think lots of people are confusing this title with ARPG style games. I think many of those people wouldbe blown away if they tried POE.

Go to Youtube and you will see some videos there. It's more like a slicker Baldur's Gate.

Also it's not even remotely a Diablo or Path of Exile Clone.
